I don't watch golf, ever. But I was watching Sportscenter and their coverage of it, saw Tiger hit an epic shot to get over the trees.

He put so much into the swing, he had to take a step or two to catch his balance. And from the sound of it, it sounded like he put the hurt on the ball. Haha

The penalty on Tiger was the most stupid thing i've ever seen. Even though he admitted that he put ball 2 yds back from the original divot, no one noticed it. In fact, no one noticed it until some random dude watching on TV called in and told someone that tiger broke the rules..

Maybe next time when a PI isn't called then I can call the NFL..

No, he admitted in an interview to moving the ball back 2 yards, when rule is to play the ball as near as possible.

He signed for the wrong score, and any other player would have been disqualified, it is a disgrace!

WTF? In the 1968, Roberto De Vicenzo lost a chance at a playoff in the Master's because his partner put down a wrong (higher) score on one hole and he signed the score card. If that is what occurred Tiger should have been DQ'ed. The rules should be that same for everyone. No wonder the guy has such a sense of entitlement.

De Vicenzo is best remembered for his misfortune in the 1968 Masters Tournament.[2] On the par-4 17th hole, Roberto De Vicenzo made a birdie, but playing partner, Tommy Aaron, inadvertently entered a 4 instead of 3 on the scorecard.[3] He did not check the scorecard for the error before signing it, and according to the Rules of Golf the higher score had to stand and be counted. If not for this mistake, De Vicenzo would have tied for first place with Bob Goalby, and the two would have met in an 18-hole playoff the next day. His quote afterwards became legendary for its poignancy: "What a stupid I am!"

Edit: They have changed the rule so that if the wrong score is a product of a misinterpretation of the rules, it is a 2 shot penalty not a DQ. That is why Tiger was not DQ'ed.

Yes, I've now seen that the rule seems to have been changed. The question I have is when? And is this for all tournaments? Only Pro tournaments? Only for the Masters?
The rule was always, if you sign for the wrong score you are disqualified. I didn't know it had changed.

Well the course committee has said that after his round was over following him actually ADMITTING he dropped the ball back 2 yards rather than as near as possible, they decided he had broken the rules (indicating therefore signing for the wrong score and a disqualification).

However, because the committee were aware BEFORE Tiger had finished his round that he may have broken the rules, and decided that he hadn't broken the rules at that point (due to lack of evidence), and didn't take any action then. The committee felt they had to just enforce a 2 point penalty according to their rules. They say that they would have made that decision for any golfer. I suppose you have to take their word on that.

Tiger got away with it basically, fair enough.

That is the problem. Golf is a "sport" that asks the player to call infractions on one's self.

After being told of his violation, Tiger Woods should have voluntarily withdrawn.....

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Will Scott/Leishman/Day end the perpetual drought for Oz golfers @Augusta??? I sure hope none of them get ahead and then train-wreck like Norman in '96 or Scott at last year's British Open (bogeyed the last four holes). Day was steady today until the final two holes with some bad putting.

Don't forget the McIlroy fiasco of 2011!

Also thought it was stupid for guan to get a stroke penalty for slow play. He's 14 and it was a 6 hour round for everyone. What the hell is wrong with them. Only triumph they had at 14 was learning to **********.

True that Rory folded like an accordion but he's not an Aussie. It would be a long list if I mentioned every fold...Kenny Perry @Augusta bogeyed 17 and 18 to "force" a playoff in '09. Of course, there's the immortal Van Der Velde at the British.

As to Guan's penalty, he wasted quite a bit of time IDing his ball, which rolled to a stop "logo down". A more experienced player would mark his ball opposite the logo to avoid confusion.

What a start for Sunday's round....55-year old two-time Masters champ Bernhard Langer opens birdie-birdie-birdie to pull within two shots of the lead!

If he wins, it'll be a "I'll take 46-year-old Nicklaus in '86 and raise you a zillion" moment!

Thorbjorn bogeys #18 but is the leader in the clubhouse at -4. That won't hold up.

Meanwhile, it's a g'Day at the beach for Jason. He pitched in from a bunker at #2 for an eagle and just hit a beauty from #13's sand for a tap-in birdie to pull within one of Cabrera.

Leishman is putting better than the rest...it might come down to the flatstick.

I was watching Olesen hit balls on Tuesday. He has one of the best swings I've ever seen. The dude can play.

I've gone off the Masters a bit over the last few years. I used to love the fact it was the only major played on the same course every year, over time it just feels like the same tournament every year. It suits some players and they are the ones who are challenging every year. Cabrera will challenge, Day and Scott are usually around the top 10, Snedeker has a good week. Rose, Donald and Westwood are always around the even mark and hovering near the top 10. McIlroy gets close and collapses, past champions like Couples and Langer turn back the years etc..

Beautiful course, incredible tradition, but each year it feels like i'm watching something i've already seen.

Cabrera just missed the putt on 17 for the tie. Dont know if he would have birdied 18 though if hwould have been tied.

huge putt for scott to tie then win.

Usually some guy chokes and the guy wins with par, but Its always good when somebody wins it with a birdie.

Really? Thos last few holes with both guys playing awesome didnt remind me of any Masters I have ever seen.

Three of the last five Masters have been decided in a playoff, all of them going multiple holes IIRC. One of the tourneys won in regulation ('11) featured a four-birdie finish to win by two strokes (Schwartzel) over two of the main characters yesterday (Day/Scott). They have all been exciting in different ways (Houdiniesque escape shots from Cabrera in '09 and Bubba in '12 vs great putting from Schwartzel and Scott). The one common thread...Tiger has been lurking in the background but just can't finish.
