Having lost 4 finals, all to inspired opponents (Federer twice, Murray twice), he's got to do it this year!
He'll probably do it this year or next. It's surprising how he hasn't won it yet.
Wow, what an age we live in. We've got Federer grabbing a record breaking 17 majors, 11 of them in a 4 year stretch, Nadal grabbing a record breaking 7 RG & 8 consecutive Monte Carlo's, Djokovic grabbing 8 of the 9 masters shields...
And Murray grabbing every part of his body when he's losing

So far Cincy for Djoko seems to be like Miami for Nadal.
A tourney with many finals but no wins.

Except Djokovic has had to play a far superior player at Cincy(Fed in case you were wondering) as opposed to Ralph whos had no such unsurmountable challenge at Miami.

Djokovic has now come the closest to being the ONLY player to win all 9 Masters tournaments since the Masters series first began in 1990! Only Cincinnati now still eludes him (4 finals but no cigar).
Nadal and Federer are still missing 2 each. Nadal is missing Miami (2 finals both lost) and Cincinnati (not even made a final yet). Federer is missing Monte Carlo (3 finals all lost) and Rome (2 finals both lost).
RG and Cincy are the only 2 big tournaments left on his 'Things I have yet to do' list. If he manages to cross them both off this year, he will have won every big tournament there is for a player to win on the tour. If he manages to secure another Wimbledon and US Open title to boot, he will have accomplished everything a player can accomplish.
At the moment, I have to say he's looking good to do all this. Who else is in good enough form to stop him?

Nadal hasn't won Paris-Bercy (so he is missing 3 M-1000 )
Ralph at Rome and RG. And Fed at Cincy.

But will they both be in good enough shape to do it, especially Fed?

Since you forgot to mention your favorite player, let me do the honors.
Djokovic has to worry about Murray also at Cincinnati. It's bit tough considering that he has two opponents there. It's more worrying since he never won even a set against them. May be Djokovic could turn around this time, who knows..
That's an easy answer. It would be Sir Murray , the World No 2 and a huge contender for Madrid, French Open and Wimbledon as well. Infact he is waiting to thrash Novak, Nadal and Federer at French and Wimbledon this year.
He is the real deal.
Nadal hasnt won Shanghai
He won Madrid-indoor-hard ( in 2005 ) which is "the same" (the 8th M-1000 of the year, first one after US OPEN).
That's interesting because wikipedia considers Madrid-clay is the same M1000 than Madrid-indoor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madrid_Open_(tennis)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Masters_(tennis)
The actual tournament is the same. But the Masters events are more determined by the slot they have in the calender. Masters events are not like Slams, tournaments can gain or lose Masters series status.
Take for instance Hamburg. Now Rafa has won that, so technically he has won at seven different locations. But, still has won at 6 of the 9 slots. It can sound a bit weird, but that is normally how it is described.
So, Djokovic has won at 8 different slots in the Masters Series calender, with the final slot which is occupied by Cincinnati remaining for the Masters Series slots sweep.
Fed hasn't won Shanghai either, but he owns a win in that slot. So hence, he has seven.
It's not weird actually.
Madrid indoor was in the eight slot. When Hamburg lost its M1000 status, it was degraded to 500, Madrid replaced that slot as a clay major. Shanghai replaced Madrid indoor as the eight slot.
It's the prefect system. It's about nine slots. Since there were lots of changes in the venues, only slots work.
Correct. It is about the slots. This is another characteristic that makes them different from the slams. In the slams, you have to win the four established events to get the sweep. In Masters, its not strictly the events, but the slots on the calender that you must win...making them unique in their own way.
I see. Then wikipedia is wrong, because in the next sequence
Stockholm (1990-1994) -> Essen (1995) -> Stuttgart (1996-2001) -> Madrid-indoor (2002-2008 ) ......should Shanghai(2009-now) to be the next instead of Madrid-clay

Need Novak to win Cinci this year.
Guy deserves it.
Nadal hasnt won Shanghai
SO, if we considered "slots" instead of "venues" (and I personnaly think we should considered "slots") Federer also has 8 out of 9 wins.
–
Here are his first title for each slots:
Slot #1 : Indian Wells - 2004
Slot #2 : Miami - 2005
Slot #3 : none (Monte Carlo slot)
Slot #4 : Madrid (clay) - 2012
Slot #5 : Hamburg - 2002
Slot #6 : Toronto - 2004
Slot #7 : Cincinnati - 2005
Slot #8 : Madrid (hard) - 2006
Slot #9 : Paris - 2011
–
But if we considered "venues", he misses 4 since he played them in 1999 :
Monte Carlo / Rome / Stuttgart / Shanghai.
But then, shouldn't we considered the venues Djokovic missed too while he played them since 2005 ? :
Hamburg / Cincinnati / Madrid (hard)

raph, what on earth are you talking about? Slots???? Fed has 7 masters. He's never won M-C or Rome. Clay Madrid is a replacement for Hamburg, nothing to do with M-C.
