Gamma X-ELS Loose Turntable Brake

Hello.
Based on the recommendations of this thread, I recently purchased a Gamma X-ELS machine. I've strung several racquets already and did notice that the turntable brake when turned to the lock position still tends to move (mainly when doing crosses). I thought the lock was there to prevent it from moving but I've had instances where it appears to be locked but still moves (and makes an awful noise).
I reviewed this in the manual but I don't see anywhere that indcates where I can tighten this so it does not continue to do this.

Any thoughts on what I need to adjust?
Thanks!

I am not so sure you should use the brake with a rotary gripper. Assuming you are trying to use it to string a Prince Racket with O Ports the string could twist off the gripper. I would call Gamma and ask.

How much is it moving? What does the sound sound like? If you remove the turn table and look at the brake design, it has a tiny bit of play due to the discrete/interference type design. A good friction design would have little to no play, but the interference type design is very, very nice. If it's doing more than very-slightly-wobbling, you've got a bigger issue on your hands. If the sound is just a light clunk your machine is operating as expected.

post some pictures if possible... it sounds like your turntable is sitting up too high.....

I have the same machine and use the brake to string O-port racquets with no issues. I'd call Gamma Customer service for their input. My brake is rock solid.

The brake on the X-Els, or any machine, can be adjusted. The way the brake works is that there is a Brake Ring, with teeth like a gear, mounted underneath the Turntable. The Brake Box is mounted onto the machine base. When the lever on the Brake Box is turned a small set of gear teeth will extend out from the Brake Box and mesh with the teeth on the Brake Ring.

If the brake is not engaging properly it can be adjusted by turning the Turntable so that it is perpendicular to the machine base. To the right of the Turntable you will be able to see the Brake Box mounted to the machine base. You will also see two 5mm cap screws on the top and two on bottom edges of the Brake Box. Turn the brake lever so the gear teeth are all the way out. Loosen those four 5mm bolts and slide the brake box a tad towards the turntable and re-tighten. Try it out and readjust if necessary.

If you would like an instruction sheet on this let me know and I’ll send you one.

^ that is exactly it! I can see the little black square moving inwards as I adjust the lever to stop the movement. Having said that, once the tension begins to pull, the plastic on plastic grinding sound starts and the racquet swings. I would love to get an instruction sheet on this. I looked through the manual/pdf and couldn't find anything. Thanks for your help!

Need brake adjustment instructions

Can someone send me the step by step instructions how to adjust the brake. Mine is really sloppy. The forums are not allowing me to DM John the Gamma rep. Thanks in advance.

Other than the break issue this machine is great. I have strung about 20 racquets so far.

What type brake / machine do you have and what are you using it for. I just sent you John's (Gamma Tech) direct email address but he may not be in the office until Tuesday as tomorrow may be a holiday for him.

Irvin,

I have an Gamma X-ELS machine. I am using the brake to string an occasional Prince racquet with O ports. Thanks for the reply.

DAH I guess I should have looked at the title. If you do not have one of the newer mechanical brakes it is not going to work anyway.
