Is Urkraine fun to go to?

I was planning on going to Russia in the summer but the Airfare plus visa plus inviation is killer priced. Over 2k to just for those things ( Ural region). I have now ruled it out, god what a pain to do this invite form.
So now I am planning a trip in the fall in October to see one of the former Soviet Republics. Is Ukraine much cheaper for food, lodge than the rest of the high class Europe cities? No visa needed is the S#it, pays to have an American Passport :).

Food is not expensive there, hotels not particularly cheap, rental cars can be quite expensive. Kiev and popular seaside spots like Odessa tend to of course be more expensive than other places.

+1. I'd like to go to the Moscow ATP tournament but the invitation thing is ridiculous. Hey Russia, it's the 21st century. Even China is easier to deal with.

How is this for tourist friendly?
• Please note that a letter from your friends or business partners cannot be regarded as official support documentation, and is therefore not valid for obtaining a Russian visa. An invitation can only be issued by a registered Russian travel agency or by a company or organization authorized by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Maybe this is part of the mystery of Russia? How to get the hell in?

I've actually gone there before but paid up for the service, I paid 250 bucks for a local company to handle the invite/visa process.
This time wanted to save some money on my own but forget it looks like somewhere else will be getting my tourist dollars.

What does expensive mean ? $10 for dinner. or $50 per night in a hotel ?

It's mainly a tit-for-tat thing with those visas. The Russian government doesn't like that fact that its citizens have to have visas to visit most of the western world. So, they make almost everyone else get visas to go to Russia.

Basically, they shoot themselves in the foot to spite everyone else.

Not a hooker actually, that's Miss Ukraine 2013... Way, way more than $500. Perhaps out of your range.

The hooker and the picture are two separate items. I'm not insinuating anything about the lady.

Besides that, I was talking about the dove.

I've decided to not to to the Ukraine, too many heartaches from those beauties over there. Even girls working at the airport look like models. And than when the trip is over I get to come home to South Seattle and Rainier Ave and oh man its not good.

Imagine living for over 2 years in Russia and then moving to a small(ish) town in Britain.
