I really didn't have terribly high expectations for this team early on (and still don't really see them as a real threat to winning the NCAAs this year) but they just keep on WINNING. Can't really ask for more than that.

Dominating win today, and can't wait to see what they can do come early May.

Outside of the hiccup early in SEC play, UGA dominated. Hard to see much out of the Indoors when they were missing KU. Still do not think they are #2, more like #5-8 range. They are young though.

They really did. I saw that UTK was without Fickey. Although that likely would not have made a difference in this match they will need him if they are to have a shot at going anywhere in the tournament. Is he expected back?

Alabama released its schedule for next year and they have both USC and Oklahoma coming to T-Town. Looks like the field at the Blue-Gray will be pretty strong (Auburn, Boise State, Clemson, Mississippi State, Princeton, Texas Tech and VCU).

Husack is turning over most of the roster by bringing in 5 new additions (1 transfer/4 freshmen) with the freshmen being 2 blue chips, a 5-star, and a 4-star. The transfer, Andrew Goodwin, from Southern Miss played at 2 last year.

Bama only had 1 senior on the team last year (Botha) though there are several names missing from the current roster so Husack must have cleaned house so to say. David Vieyra, Carlos Taborga, Philippe Tsangarides, and Rens van der Vis appear to be headed somewhere else. All 4 had losing records last year.

One of the Alabama blue chip recruits, Nikko Madregallejo, is not listed on the roster. Is he arriving in January, maybe?

Possibly, it's hard to say without knowing. Could be that the coach may have a question about some of his paperwork that makes him hedge a putting him on the roster at the moment. I know a coach that had to remove a couple of new players when some of their credentials came into question, then added them back a few days later when they cleared up the questions about their records.

Brewer, Donohue, and Buehning all signed last November while Madregallejo was just signed last week so he could be a January admit. He's been playing Futures since January with not a whole lot of success (yet to make it out of qualies in 7 events).

Florida released its schedule for the coming year and it's highlighted by a road trip to LA in February to face UCLA and USC on back-to-back days. The opener with UNC Wilmington won't be easy though UNCW lost Cooprider and Blank.

It'll be interesting to see what improvements Florida makes this year with Bob van Overbeek, Billy Federhofer, and Luke Johnson gone and with Spencer Newman back and joined by newcomers Diego Hidalgo, Maxx Lipman, Elliott Orkin, and Josh Wardell.

Gator fans what kind of lineup you looking at this year? Maybe Piro, Diep, Hidalgo, Newman, Alford, Watson/Lipman/Orkin.

Will curious to see if Ole Miss stays put or signs someone new, would not be surprised if Scholtz were to stay home with his success so far this summer.

I like the French Pair of Diep and Piro to make a big impact this year, both as Seniors. Another Senior would be Alford who could be good

RE: Ole Miss

Scholtz will be back. They graduated two players. Vinod Gowda will be eligible, and is expected to shore up the lower half of the lineup. I would still expect them to bring in at least one and probably two players for the spring.

that's good, he will be the key for them with Lutjen gone, hope they can shore up #5-6 positions or could be another long year of tight matches

I wonder if Karim Hossam will show up in Oxford or if that ship has sailed. I know it was announced last year that he had accepted a scholarship for the 2013-2014 season but he was originally supposed to be there this past spring. He is currently 446 in the ATP rankings.

Word is some other schools, not going to name them, were after him last year when he couldn't get into Ole Miss. I think he could only come last year or he would have to turn pro. He didn't want to go anywhere else, so he just turned pro.

SEC Schedules & Updates

Georgia released its schedule today and it includes a weekend trip to USC and UCLA along with a match against Stanford or Washington in the ITA Kickoff weekend which means they'll play half the Pac 12 in a 6 day period. Ohio State also comes in to Athens for a mid-week match in March. Casey Kay transferred to Georgia Tech.

Vanderbilt released its schedule and it includes a a visit from Texas for the ITA Kick Off weekend and possibly a matchup with Wake Forest in the 2nd round. Northwestern comes in and VU travels to Michigan and Indiana. Vandy will host the SEC Fall Classic in September and the SEC Tournament next April which up until a week ago was supposed to be in Columbia. Marc van der Merwe is no longer on the roster though Vandy has added 2 newcomers in Ryan Smith and Pen Binet.

More teams should release their schedules and rosters once class starts up in the fall.

Curious on Auburn (only 4 listed on the roster)?, and MS State (lost Romaine and 1 or two others)?

Any word from SEC tennis fans?

Ole Miss: added Gowda and guess have Rogers available but not sure either are good replacement for Lutjen

Gowda will be a solid replacement for Forberg Skogeng. He will not lose at six. Not sure what Rogers' status is. He has yet to really play, so unsure what he can add. Heard they were planning to bring in at least one maybe two in the spring to replace Lutjen. Kallberg is back and is capable of moving up to No. 2, but Lutjen played No. 3 his freshman year. They need at least someone capable of playing two or three right away.

Lutjen

Amazing thing about Lutjen was that he became a two-time All-American all while living with Type 1 Diabetes. The guy was an extremely hard worker, who got better as his career went along. Saw today where he is in the semis of a Futures in Germany.

Where is Adrian du toit? 1 semester and done. Not good enough so they booted him or he just quit (hate to stereotype but South Africans don't seem very dependable in college tennis)
Btw looked up gowda and unless the guy has improved a lot his results say he won't be in the lineup, if he's at 6 I think he loses a lot. Rebs have some work to do, if scholtz even comes back, guessing they bring in 2 or 3 more

Gowda will be in the lineup in singles for sure and he will win a lot of matches for the Rebels. Anything will be better at that spot than what they have had lately. I remember when they never lost much at five and six. Have to be better at those two spots. I heard Adriaan transferred somewhere else, but not sure where.

Oh and Scholtz tweeted this earlier today, so safe to assume he'll be back.

@NikScholtz: Really enjoyed my time in SA. It really is a unique place. The more I travel the more I realize that. Next stop Oxford, MS

I love sec tennis, u come in January, "try out", coaches realize player is not good enough, then tell him transfer.....that's why we are the best tennis conference in the country

I don't see that happening very often. We do see and international or two show up in January, not play or just play a few matches, then not show up on the roster in the Fall or anywhere for that matter. Some transfer. Those teams are all loaded. I would agree that players at 8 or 9 on many SEC rosters would play top of the line up at many schools outside the SEC, or top conference.

I disagree. Majority of SEC teams kick a guy off or make them transfer. Certainly the 8/9 on a SEC team will not play top lineup on a top 50 team, and I'm SEC biased.
Not going to to do the research but just from last year off the top of my head:

Tennessee 1
Georgia 2
Vanderbilt 1
Miss State 3
Miss 2
TAMU 1
Alabama 3

Not sure about the other but even my Gators have 1 in Luke Johnson. Played some but wouldnt play this year so time to go.
Just how the SEC rolls, that's why we are the best.

Read what I wrote. Sure bottom of the line up guys transfer. I did not say they could play top 50. Many leave on their own. Not sure that Miss State counts for this conversation as they lost top players which is unusual. Alabama has a new coach so I can see a weeding process there.

Not sure what I missed, you said top of the lineup at a school in a top conference. Assuming we agree other top conferences are big 10 PAC 12 acc big 12 then you are wrong unless you are talking about Boston college. Most teams in other top conferences are top 50.
But I do agree miss st is the exception this year.

Mississippi State added 3 newcomers for this year per the MSU write up though the roster still has not been updated.

Robin Haden, class of 2012, from Sweden. The article says he was a top 10 junior though his ITF Jr Ranking peaked at 281.
Florian Lakat from France - just turned 18. Lost to Romain Bogaerts in 3 sets in the round of 16 of a Belgian Future in June.
Tassilo Schmid is a 21 year old JUCO transfer from Tyler CC. He signed with Hawaii 2 years ago but never was on the active roster. At Tyler he played behind Adrien Berkowitz who is Texas bound though his results were not as flashy as Berkowitz's.

None of these 3 will be able to fill Bogaerts spot but they'll help add some depth.

Mississippi State has its roster updated and they have just 6 for now. Stefan Vinti also left from last year along with Bogaerts and Dumont though I haven't seen him show up on another roster yet.

Texas A&M added a transfer from St. Joseph, Max Montague, but I don't see him making the starting lineup since he played in the lower half at St. Joe's and had about a .500 record.

State will probably have a couple of January kids. They'll have to, but either way, I don't see them being as good this year as last couple of years.

SEC Fall Classic:

Not a good start for Ole Miss's Vinod Gowda as he loses 6-4 6-2 to Vandy's Kovrigin who was an occasional fill-in at 6 last year.

Miss State's newcomers split their debuts with Robin Haden losing 6-2 6-1 to Florida's Mike Alford and Florian Lakat knocking off Kentucky's Kevin Lai 6-3 2-6 6-3

Ouch could be a long year for the MS Schools once ITA Regionals and SEC matches hit.
Expect both to fill some shoes come January though if at all possible

Miss State's top returning player, Malte Stropp, just lost in straights to Kentucky's Beck Pennington 6-3 7-6. Beck started last year about 8 or 9 on UK's depth chart but was able to play at 6 near the end of the season due to some injuries higher up.
