Dimitrov vs Gasquet:Rome 2013 Battle of the One-handed backhands

Actually, I'm not quick with an assessment on him.

I'm apparently the only guy who is sitting here not saying he's the next Federer, next GOAT, next Djokovic-killer, best OHBH on tour... et cetera.

People are far too quick to elevate Dimitrov/Gulbis/Et cetera. The jury is out for quite awhile on these guys yet.

They are young, they are inexperienced, and they need a lot more time on court against the top players before anybody should be putting them as the next Federer... etc.

Actually, very few people are saying that. We on TW are nothing if not cynics and are happily denouncing him and proclaiming that he will probably never be much, which is sad, because his game is beautiful etc.

I have no doubt some people think that, but they do not air their views on here for fear of being thought mad or stupid.

I completely agree with you though. It is far too early to say anything and you need to give him time. He may well win a slam (someone has to, after all), but he has had no astronomical rise as did Nadal and Safin that marked them out.

Dimitrov needed 3 sets to beat Novak 0.8

That's pathetic.

There is no denying that he played pretty poor. In fact, Djokovic played worse in their previous encounter in Indian Wells. Dimitrov choked the match and this time not. Djokovic has been lately playing in a very strange and shaky manner.Might be due to lack of motivation. His ultimate goal is RG. Playing in later part of Madrid would have definitely exhausted him for Rome and he wants good result in Rome so that he can back his claim when he puts his feet on Paris clay.

Dimitrov really is nothing like Federer. He's very good but moves totally differently and phoned it in today.
Definitely deflated after blowing the 2-0 2nd set lead, then getting broken again. Got out-clowned by RG's droppers.

I can't stand it when players lose to all flash no substance Gasquet.
That's pretty rough. RG has improved his FH and serve quite a bit in the last 2 yrs or so.

Dimitrov had the UE Machine running strong. Beat up the net with the BH in the 1st set. Could be the most one sided 4 and 4 match I've seen in a while.

i'm glad you added that "someone has to" line because that's what i've been saying..and i assume you mean like me in 5-10 years as fed eases out and rafa and joker and murray wear down dimitrov and i would say raonic should be in their prime which appears to be even later than mid-twenties anymore...who else is going to win them then?....of course that's a long time for those guys to wait

Beat him in Rome 2011 in three, from nowhere really. Game was on Federer's racket, Gasquet just kept good length and well Federer the shankmaster tanked...

that's right, forgot that, fed's had some earlier losses here...so this is really a better challenge for fed than dimitrov right now probably....fed should be up for this, we'll see gasquet's form, assuming of course they make it to quarters....would it be haas for gasquet first?
