6 minutes away from taking it to 7 games, then all those chances in OT, not a good feeling :(

Hopefully this year is just the start.

A bittersweet end of the beginning...Tavares & Co. will hoist the Cup in a victory lap very soon! It would be great stuff if it were to happen in their last game in The Old Barn in Uniondale!

If Corey Perry would have at least 1 goal this series is over, If Ducks win tonight they face the Kings and ok I feel the Team Doctor and Massage therapist being busy for the Ducks cause the Ducks are going to get run over by the bigger stronger Kings

Really looking foward to the Sens/Pens series. Payback time!

It could happen! It reminds me a bit of the Penguins and Blackhawks over the recent past. Both teams missed the playoffs for long periods, collected top players through the draft as a result, then when they made the playoffs again they looked like they were back on the up. The "new" Penguins reached the finals in their second season and won the cup in their third, the Blackhawks lost to Detroit in their first season back, whilst won it at their second attempt.

If the same thing happens for the Islanders, it should just be happening around the time we leave the Coliseum. Could be fun :)

All right Pittsburgh!!!! (sorry Stringer Tom, I'm a little partial to the Penguins-always loved that skating bird on their jersey) Go Rangers, Go Bruins, Go Blackhawks, Go Red Wings. Was talking to my brother the other day-big hockey fan-and he's GLAD the Islanders are leaving "that dump" (Nassau Collesium). :(

Now that my Ducks are out, I'm on the Blackhawks bandwagon to take down those freaking Wings. The SJ-LA series will be a good one, I see LA in 6, these guys have got the playoff formula down.

The sad part of the Ducks' defeat is this may have been Selanne's best chance at another Cup...he will turn 43 in July and has been doing a series of one-year contracts with the team for as long as I can remember. It will be a sad day when he does indeed shut it down.

That it will, but I think he's also part of the problem in some ways. The Ducks to me look like the slowest team i've seen in the playoffs so far, which is one of the reasons they lost imo.

I think they have a great base and a good coach, if they address a few areas they will be pretty strong. They won their division with the team they have, a few tweaks to make a push in the playoffs and they will be golden.

Bryan Allen skates like a Tree and so does Souray. The Wings were a bad matchup, in the regular season the Wings came in to Honda Center and skated over the Ducks, I knew we were toast.
I see Bobby Ryan being let go for a couple of shut down grinder as th Ducks copy the Kings success pattern of endless grinders.

Sounds like they need to trade in a couple of Hondas for an Acura!:)

Hawks fan here. Glad the Wings won. Hawks are better against the Wings than a bigger more physical Ducks team, even though they wouldn't have played them in the next round. San Jose is playing well and also a physical team. Hawks are not good when the games get real physical.

Switching to the Leafs though....a fun team to watch...I'm rooting for them.....they have a lot of speed breaking out of the zone and through the neutral zone....more than the Hawks....Gardiner a rising star on D...that crowd in Game 6 (inside and outside the building) was awesome!

Go Leafs! Beat Boston!

I feel like crying and the Leafs are in no way my favorite team.

Im a die hard fan and it feels like you've been dumped hard by a girl you really like. So close for the leafs to win it was 4-2! That 2 late goals by boston was a miracle they deserve the win

OMG! That game wrecked my night. I hate the Bruins and everything they stand for. Goon hockey. The Leafs would have been refreshing to watch in another series.

Now we get to see 2 boring grinding teams, NYR vs. Bruins.

My heart goes out to the Leafs fans. We in Chicago know your pain. The Cubs collapse vs. the Marlins with 5 outs to go. Game 7 of the finals vs. the Canadiens in the '71 cup. Up 2-0 and Hull hits the crossbar....then jacques Lemaire scored from center ice.....been there. That one still haunts me. Then Hull leaves the NHL.

No scars there : - (

Good comeback season Leafs!

I was so sure one of either the Islanders or the Leafs would make it past the first round, after the Islanders went out on Saturday it was left to the Leafs, ahh well. I think both teams can be proud of their first playoff appearances in so long, the top teams won't be fancying facing either teams in the coming years.

Hockey is the best sport to watch. By far. Anything can happen. No lead is safe. This game today - how you can not love it.

Yes! Someone said it the NY Rangers are boring as boring can be. They are a far cry from my 1994 Rangers that won the cup with Leetch, Messier, Kovalev, Graves, Richter. The owe the 94 Cup team an apology for the ugly style they play.
I'll still be rooting for the Rangers cause these Bruins ruined my Monday Night.
There is only one hope for fans that love up and down Hockey the most- Chicago vs Pittsburgh so we can try to take back the league to the high flying early and mid 90s.

The only thing that makes this less of a choke job than the Bosox' '86 World Series is the fact it's the first round of the playoffs.

Lundquist will cool off the Bruins but they are gonna need more from Nash to prop up what had been an anemic offense until game 7.

I'm still reeling from the Isles' two OT losses. Had we taken the Pens out, I like the chances we would have had vs the remaining teams. I think the Pens will now be in the Cup finals.

Sharks/Kings is gonna be a great one...Quick is back in the zone after his uncharacteristic first two losses.

Me too, the battle for the 6th, 7th and 8th spots down the stretch was very tight. I fancied our chances against the Habs and Caps, the Pens were the only team I wasn't confident facing. To take them to 6 games (with the OT losses being so close) was better than I expected.

Agreed. I'm a Rangers fan for this series. Hopefully Lundquist can steal the series.

Ironically, I was really pulling for the Bruins a couple of years ago to beat the Canucks. We hate the Canucks here in Chicago.

Also agree to a Hawks-Pens finals being good for hockey. Hopefully, we are not taking our regular season dominance of the Red Wings for granted here in Chicago.

There's nothing like the Stanley Cup playoffs!

I'm really excited about this next round: Bruins v. Rangers (GO NEW YORK), Penguins v. Senators (GO PENS), Sharks v. Kings (GO SJ). Not sure who to cheer for in the Red Wings/B'hawks matchup. Hoping that all series go to seven games!

My Kings looking for that repeat

Looks like they know they cant lose.
One last thing about the Leafs, I'm surprised at the Leaf coaching in the last 10 minutes. Randy Carlyle was a tough nose d man. He knows to knock people down in the last few minutes. The refs usually let them play in that situation and they Leafs didnt do any of that.
Thats why Scott Stevens, Rob Blake, Chris Pronger dont come around much. They put you on your behind when its that important.

Wake up Stanley Sleepyheads...five days and zero posts???

Meanwhile, Detroit is looking stout vs Chicago, the Bruins are mauling the Rangers, a second-OT goal brings the Sens back into the series vs the Pens and the Kings start OT on a 3on5 disadvantage, get one guy back but then lose seconds later. The playoffs have officially begun!

I hope my Blackhawks are not looking past the Red Wings. I know the whole City is thinking it would be easy, based on the season series.

I actually wanted this matchup for 2 reasons: 1. it wouldn't be as physically punishing as an Anaheim, Vancouver, San Jose, etc.... it takes the Hawks out of their game, and 2. It's sweeter for a journey for the Cup to go through the dominant franchise for the last umpteen years. Just like when the Bulls would lose to the Pistons. When they finally beat them, they started the string of Championships.

Switching to the east, go Rangers, although I don't think they have the combination of skill and brawn to beat the Bruins. So assuming the Bruins beat the Rangers, only the Pens can beat them. So even though I don't like the Pens, go Pens.....beat the Bruins..

So if the Hawks can find their way to the final, a CHI-Pitt final would be huge!!!! A rematch of the 1992 final. Hopefully different result.

Oops....Now I'm looking forward too much......Go Hawks....Beat Red Wings...

Thats cause the 1st round was fanstatic and now the 2nd round matchups are not as fun. Bruins vs Rangers is like rugby.

Granted its heating up a bit Sharks/Kings. and Sens/Pens.

Anything's possible in all four series, although I'm thinking the Bruins will steal at least one @MSG. They are playing like a team that has already dodged the bullet and believe if Toronto couldn't close them out, no one will. That may work vs the Rangers but if it's Pens/Bruins in the conference finals they will go down.

I agree about the Bruins, they seem to be gaining a bit of momentum. They have a few of their important players on defence out, but the youngsters who have come in have been doing great.

Interesting to see the Wings get another win yesterday, Toews seems to be in a bit of a strange mood, but they're always dangerous.

It took me about a week to get over the Isles going out after playing so well, but there have been some good games the last few nights. The last two finishes with the Kings/Sharks have been crazy, the double over time in Ottawa, Detroit looking like they can pull off the upset. The second round is starting to heat up!

Uh Oh...... The Wings have now taken to a new level. Ironically, my son plays hockey for a local team called the Chicago Hawks, and they can't win a faceoff to save their life either.......

The Wings know how to step up the physical play and incorprate it into their game without disrupting it. Chicago tried to counter with physical play, but they let their emotions run too high when they do.....not good. Much more physical than the regular season series. Zetterburg and Ericson shut down Toews and frustrated the hell out of him. Zetterburg and Datsyuk owned the Hawks on faceoffs. It's do or die on Thursday.

I've said before that I don't get to see much from the West, with the time difference over here. I've been surprised by Detroit, they seem to of pulled their old trick of finding good players low in the draft, from Europe, or even undrafted. The likes of Andersson, Nyquist, Brunner etc..

I agree it is do or die, the winner of the next game will take the series imo. If Chicago can get back level after being second best for most of the series it will be big for them, if Detroit go up 3-1 then that should be enough for them.

Wings/Kings??? Even sounds like a classic!

Quick is rather quickly becoming a Stanley Cup legend! I think the return of Greene makes it even harder to beat this goalie.

He's been great, but so has Howard. I can see it being a low scoring series, should still be interesting.

Boston and Pittsburgh should have more scoring i'd of thought, i've got a feeling for Boston in that one.

I'm going Pens and rather easily in the East.

Thinking you spoke too soon about the Wings/Kings prediction? ;)
Toews looked better yesterday, when he's playing well, the Blackhawks usually do too I find. Game 6 will be interesting, if the Wings drop that one too they will be panicking.

As for the Pens.. i'll stick with Boston taking that one :) Pittsburgh are probably the better team individually, but Boston and the playoffs are a good match. We saw with the Islanders that Pittsburgh don't like teams getting in their face, Boston can do that to a higher standard I think.

Babcock is an awesome coach - he get guys to buy into his system.

Penalty shot! And another Game 7. Nice.

He does, they remind me of the Spurs in many ways. The way they bring in players and have a specific system that they buy into. Both teams have an identity, when you have that you're half way there.
