we said federer needs to switch and he listened to the 2.0 TW hacks

it is not a questions of whether he will win more slams or not, it is a question if he should switch or not, the purist said he does not NEEEEED to switch he has been winning many slams and named all the pros that won slams with 85/90, BUT the game has changed and Federer is getting older and he NEEEDS to hang with the big boys that are top 4 ( he is at 5) He NEEEDS more power, he NEEEEDS more forgiveness especially his OHBH, anyway I was the first one here on TW that said federer NEEDS to switch to a bigger frame, and yes the 2.0 TW hacks were right all along:)

flame away :)

So the older he gets, the bigger the frame he will switch to?

This thread has 1000+ post potential. With that in mind I am here to post in this very important thread.

The reality is that he shanked a few backhands with the new racquet so that might be slow movement or simply that he stands close to the baseline to receive or both.

I...was the first one that said that...
Prove me wrong :)

you came on this site august 4th 2004, the original posters on this forum have Feb 2004,the date the forum switched, I have been posting on this forum since 1999:oops: anyway, who care who was the first, we all knew he needed to change, heck I am a fed fan to the bones, and the last lose was just too ugly and unbearable to watch, heck anything a big bubbaa,,,,, whatever

Care to explain how forgiveness relates to his 1hbh?

there is a youtube video where he totally misses the OHBH, anyone care to dig it up, gasquet can hit a OHBH with a 100 why can;t federer  look they are picking on his BH he needs something bigger where he can take a bigger cut ala gasquet and not frame the ball

I disagree. He should stick with his six.one 90. It suits him way better. He just lost a set to one Daniel Brands??? I am not sure why are you gloating?

Are you saying he shouldn't have lost a set to Daniel Brands? Don't forget he took a set off of Nadal at this years RG.

If you overlook the first set and see it as a practice set to get in the groove of the racquet, the scoreline would be 6-3, 6-2 which isn't too shabby.

A bigger cut with a bigger frame means less control unless other factors are adjusted.

When you say he totally misses it do you mean as in missed the ball completely or misshits it? Missing the ball completely cannot be fixed by adding 1cm extra around the hoop.

Nonsense. We've been saying Fred needs to go to a 85" racket, and that Nadal also needs to downsize if he wishes to go deeper in Wimbledon.

This switch is suresh's conspiracy to hasten Fred's decline.

bobby your signature says it all, you are still living in lala land with the 85, hey I dont blame you I was living in la la land with my PT630, until I wised up and now play the areo pro lite 2013,

if it helps him .00001% not to mis hit once that will be enough, like i said look up the youtube videos, some are ugly.

hey Federer said it himself he wants something bigger, for what:confused: to better hit flies with

and in regards to fed switching to a bigger racquet - it's only a couple matches and he could switch back at any point. but over the years most players that used a mid have switched to a MP for one reason or another. a few have flip flopped back to mids again but most have kept the MP.

does anyone know how many guys still use the original prestige mid? that seems to be the only real mid left that has a few players still using it.

Prestige has the mid 600 line from day 1 to now, earlier also had 660 size and later discontinued, now it has 630 size?

Radical is always 630 or 690 size.

Radical is orange while Prestige is dark red :)

Joking.

Stock Radical MP is 98sq in, around 320g strung and 3pt HL.

Stock Prestige Mid is 93sq in (close to 90, since head measurements are different and 93 Head < 93 Wilson or Babolat), around 345g and 7 pt HL.

That comment says you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Thanks for confirming. Try addressing the salient point I made next time.

I don't seek more performance in the way Federer seems to be - I am way past that point. I'm just happy to have a frame I know inside-out and suits my needs.

It will not.

Federer just lost to #114 ranked player using his new 98 sq in racquet. That would never happen with the six.one 90.

90erer >>>>>> 98erer.

The 2.0 TW hacks were proven wrong.

I dont have too, why did he change Bob since you are so smart, let us 2.0 TW hack know.

it seems no one joined in on your anniversary, the crickets were chirping, get over it the PS85 is dead, not even federer can play with 90 let a lone 85, LOL

The Wilson Prostaff 85, first sold in 1983 and still going strong 30 year later.

Used to win at least 29* major singles titles and a few doubles also.

*Rough calcs: Sampras 14, Edberg 6, Pierce 1, Courier 4, Evert 4 (of her 18 majors) = 29. Plus Edberg won 3 doubles majors with it too.

even if he won few slam the TW wanna purists will come out and say,,,,,,, stop,,,,,, he needs to win 12 slams with the new frame to be proven correct

get over it, even if he does not win a match I want the matches against the big boys to be a little respectable, or he should quit now,

...he'll dump the 98 immed.

...in perspective, Agassi should've switch from his 107 to a 125 or 138 butterfly catcher in the winter of his career?:)

Agreed if he can move like he was in 2006..
Sampras won the US Open in 2002 at age 31 with an 85, why can't Federer? :)

As I got older and less mobile, I kept moving to smaller head sizes and they work better for me since I can't move as fast. Bigger racquets make you grind out points while smaller racquets allow you to hit winners and end points more quickly. 14 years ago, I used a 98. 10 years ago, I used a 95. 7 years ago, I used a 90. Now I use an 85. :)

When I get really old, I expect I'll have to go back to my 65 sq. in. wood racquets.

Hope it's not all warped or annihilated with colonies (a coat or two of varnish/laminate might prolong it, ummm...)...you know.:) They're not Borg's Donnays?

it looks like the 85/90 purists are out in full force, give it up the 85/90 is useless on the ATP tour today, there might be one spot for the head 90 but that is about it,

Apparently, Federer can't play with a 98 either.
BP read below, you are guilty of the first sentence, you expect him to win 12 more slams for the switch to be worthy:(

Kinda sorta agree. For today's modern pusher, or ultra topspin baseline bashing game game, the strength of precision and control in a 90 sq in. head size rackets is not a proper fit. You have to be rally special with a really special game to excel with that racket, and I think everyone agrees Fed is special.

The reason Federer never tried out a larger frame before was he always made the latter stages of the slams. Now he has had ten days he was not expecting, to play test in a 500.
