So how much have changed the forums?

Suresh n. 1?

Weak era!

I remember you, your user name anyway--barley. No idea anything about you otherwise.

But that was not my question.

...it seems the forum hasn't changed that much really.

PS: Who needs to retire nowadays?

Considering the grammatical structure of your thread title it was difficult to understand your question.

Well, considering the grammatical composition of your post, it was easy to imagine that you were talking about a cereal harvest. :)

Dilly's TW Dictionary was epic.

It was better when there was a rants and raves section. We're all adults here and can handle whatever "heat" might arise in the pseudo-reality of the internet world. For me, macht's nicht. I'm an independent and a moderate; interesting to see the liberal vehemence (and fangs) at times.

I think of Rabbit as the quintessential and MVP poster here. It's nice to see comments that are thought out before scribbled and put up.

Alot.

Saying the old times were better is something that happens alot, but the old forum was better.

not just by a little either. Old forums where fun. Now its a check here and there and nothing. the silly fun threads have even died off. its a shame but such is life. Things change for better or worse they just change.

Looks like Phil and Deuce retired for good. I still check this out sometimes.

Phil simply disappeared about 2? years ago. He may have croaked at his keyboard.
No epic I am leaving the board thread, just gone with the wind.

Deuce was ejected after one too many brawls with a bratty youngster.
He might be here under another name. Hard to believe someone who was so into posting would accept dismissal when it is so easy to come back.

FedAce is in graduate school at ultra prestigious Staford University.

LarryH is still retired. But, like Deuce, I imagine is here under another name(s) as old habits die hard.

Other than that, SOS. :)

Which are you referring to? This forum, just a few years back? Or the old boards <2004 timeframe? Are you calling this current forum one suffering from a weak era?

3+ years for Phil since his last visit. I could have sworn he was banned or something. I miss Phil and Deuce, I think they would be giving a lot of 'youngsters' a good ol' fashioned telling off every once in a while.

The board before 2004 was the one that i'd had in mind. Suppose the newer, shiny interface was always going to bring a younger audience with it.

its a few years back now. It just slowly declined in quality over the years. Its not like GPP was ever a great place but now its unusable. I tried to read a few after i saw the other thread and ya its as bad as they say it is.

I kinda laugh at everyone blaming kids. I can remember some of the worst flame wars on these boards coming from adults. I wont go into specific stuff but I can recall some of the most vile stuff and false accusations coming from adult posters.

seems like the good posters moved on to elsewhere. I can recall good debate and discussion in the health and fitness section years back with some quality knowledgeable posters. They have all moved on.

I dont really know what the solution to the decline in quality is. your not getting those posters back anytime soon so your kinda stuck with what you got.

Yeah, I'm very aware that it's not "just" kids, although the play-by-play/short term memory/sensationalism/gif spam/inability to actually argue (read as debate) without insulting others can be attributed to a skewed younger age range. I'm definitely someone that will give the benefit of the doubt to a younger crowd, though. I joined the board(s) when I was in my early teens ;)

I've taken some polls and feedback about changes that can be made to the boards and presented my case to the admins, we'll see if they get around to looking into these changes. I should bring that back up, now that I think about it...

The problem with the R&R section was that during the 2008 elections and olympics the threads got increasingly political and over-the-top. I remember we had a poster who posted exclusively in threads related to China, there was another poster by the name of Superstition who made several posts related to how splendid it was that he was gay and how everyone should basically accept his view (Phil hated him and even made a N@zi reference to him in a heated discussion). He had a very cool avatar though, some dude with his mouth tied shut or something.

I don't think either one of them had ever watched a match in their lives, much less picked up a racquet. Those kinds of people are nothing but a hindrance to the forum. Perhaps reinstating the R&R, but to access it you need X amount of posts in other threads or what have you. It's like that at an audio production forum I post at on occasion, it keeps the idiots and noobs out.

I think of Rabbit as the quintessential and MVP poster here. It's nice to see comments that are thought out before scribbled and put up.

Rabbit is the GOAT. Suresh and BP are just warming his throne.

Deuce was awesome. His avatar with the blinking eye is timeless.

Phil was banned. I could have sworn it had to do with him telling a few too many people off in the old R&R section. He made a post IIRC not too long ago (a year?) and that was the end of it.

Actually, Deuce got banned long ago, which was one of the best things to happen to this forum.

I dunno, I remember that he was extremely cranky, but I feel like "best things to happen to this forum" is a bit of a stretch, all things considered. He straight up insulted me many times, but I thought his brutal honesty was somewhat refreshing. He wasn't downright toxic like a lot of stuff I've been seeing -- just grumpy.

Awful poster. Him and Aphex (the other best banning to happen). :)

I do a few other forums and its just the nature of the high activity sections to be flame wars. Where as the small activity ones seem to kinda form their own little community. Maybe thats a solution create a big four section and than an everyone else section. Give them an area where they can tell each other why Nadal or Federer is the worst person on the planet so the rest of the boards can get a talk in.

I just remember him being incredibly judgmental. Making huge assumptions based off the smallest little thing he could find.

That's not a bad idea, now that I think about it... except there's so much cross pollination and the organization would be a bit of a nightmare. I do think that having a dedicated discussion area is a good thing, though. Just hard to manage.

I do recall that about Deuce, maybe I'm just remembering him more fondly than I should be... ;)

I remember Superstition for one thread... and it turns out it's still there!

You can skim-read to post #57; just pay a little attention to which side of the argument he has taken, and how persistent he has been. And his avatar.

Rabbit is the GOAT.
Rabbit is great, but when people mention rabbits I can't help but think of Tina with the bunny avatar. Not even Chopin deserved a stalker.

I feel bad for humanity when I read the GP section. It's sad because you can tell a lot of those folks are actually adults.

Tina was probably one of the strangest posters I've ever encountered on the internet. Did she even play tennis?

That name sort of rings a bell.

Was he the poet or the humble public servant ?

Public servant. Also, Enlightened Coelacanth was an amazing poster. Now there's someone who ****ed people off.

+1 for Rabbit. Almost too normal to be posting here.

I almost forgot about Tina. I think she might have been a sleeper cell sending coded messages through TT. Something about "unsanitary birds on the sky of the flushing", or something like that.

I think there was a conspiracy to ban the often misspelled Deuce in an effort to get rid of all animated avatars. Speaking of which, what happened to the girl with the "like Kournikova with a better serve" avatar?

I miss R&R a little with enlightened coelacanth, stormhalloway, heycal, etc. One problem was too many posters in there who didn't appear to play tennis or add anything to the community, and a couple of rabid Chinese, like golden retriever and the many guises of tennis maverick, who didn't know how to conduct themselves.

Yeah, as the years go on, the boards seem to lose a bit of their charm. Like anything else, life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone.

Not sure about that, but I'm pretty sure EC was a frequent poster on Airliners.net under the name Halibut. The conservative Halibut could really get under the skin of the Airliners community as well. Especially the male flight attendant types. He was eventually banned there and became EC around the same time he migrated upstream to TT.

I don't recall Phil being banned ever. He would be sarcastic but I don't recall him doing anything ban worthy. I think he just left or changed his user name. He had a major troll for quite some time and never did change his user name which was amazing.

The old board, IIRC, at the beginning, 1999-2000? was pretty good. It was a lot smaller in terms of membership. And almost exclusively adults. Around the same time that PC's became more commonplace/less expensive, the board sort of went to hell as all the kiddies got online. I guess if you are 13 the current board is fine though. :)

Don used to moderate the board. We used to have to leave him posts to get stuff deleted. (Hey Sysop!!!) Some of the adults, I won't name names, would flame each other a bit, but it was pretty entertaining. And some would chronically issue I am leaving the board for good threadsonly to return a few weeks later.

The old board was not perfect by any means but much better IMHO. And scamming on the classifieds was pretty much unheard of back then.

you mean MegacedU. Havnt seen a post from her in a long time. Another that moved on. Same as alot of the old female posters.

Didn't someone (an ex?) post nude pics of her on here at one point? They were up for a few hours. Figures I would miss that. :)

She was the one who got Deuce banned, IIRC. He would make fun of her quite a bit. Deuce did not know when to let stuff go sometimes.

Some of the very few women who post on this very male dominated board are total "attention pros." And some of the guys are such total losers that they think they have some sort of relationship going on with them. Sort of amusing to observe.

EC left when Rants and Raves ended 2 or 3 years ago. He was quite miffed that R&R got yanked but it had become crazyland and some of the regular posters were clearly nut cases. Most of them left the board shortly thereafter.

Senator J is still here under a different name, I believe.

I remember a photoshopped pic where someone removed her bikini top I believe. Seems like it was a long time ago but i do remember talking to her about it.

The older boards had there issues with weird crap but they where fun at most times.

I sold a racquet to Larry Hall (or Phil) around 2002 or so.

The problem is that anything gets old, including typing out notes on the internet and even websites. How many websites nowadays don't function or have dated information?
