The Prestige - 2006, Christopher Nolan. Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine. Nice, interesting movie. Two very competitive magicians try to undermine one another.

Christopher Nolan hasn't made a bad movie in his life. The Prestige, Memento, and Inception are all good movies.

Oh, and those Batman movies are decent too.

Mud-Not really a Matthew McConaughey fan, but he did a great job in this film. The ending for this movie is a little weird, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this film :p

The highlight was David Bowie playing Nikola Tesla. Couldn't stop grinning at that.

Just saw Iron Man. Fun. Will follow it up with the sequels.

(The Prestige) Funnily, i was checking the credits later to see which role Bowie played. Sorry, I am not much into modern music.

Always think of The French Connection whenever great car chases are mentioned.
I got TFC recently. Must see it pronto.

No it's great but BULLIT is still the king of ALL car chases - you get a 68 Mustang 390 GT vs a 68 Charger Magnum 440!!!! AND Steve McQueen!!!!

The chase scene in "The Seven Ups" almost as good - Ronin in the top 5.

Cool thing to do in San Francisco is drive the route from the movie -
Funnily, i saw Bullitt last month, but don't remember the chase much.

I remember driving on the 49 mile drive or something, was it based on a movie ?

You'd be better off watching The Avengers (if you haven't already), then skipping to Iron Man 3. You won't miss anything, except the fact that Terrence Howard gets replaced by Don Cheadle.

Has anyone seen, "The Master" ?

I'm always pretty skeptic at movies that seem to be dragged out too long.
Yeah I saw it a while ago. I really enjoyed the 50's setting and the attention to detail. I also liked that I had no idea what these characters were about, much less where the story was going. Didn't blow me away but I'm sure there are deeper things I missed.
Phoenix and Hoffman were excellent, as usual.

Saw Iron Man 2 last night. Looks like they try to overshadow the original and in doing so spoil the sequels.

Will check out the Avengers, thanks.

Watched a pair of Oscar-winning classics on TV again, "Silence of the Lambs" and "Annie Hall," each brilliant in its own way, not a single carelessly done scene in either of them.

Tried to watch The Avengers last night, but could not go beyond 30 mins. Maybe I need to see earlier episodes ?

Then saw Primer (2004), a nice but tough movie about time travel. Two kids accidentally discover the ability to go back in time. Then there is the conflict of dealing with their former selves and the ensuing confusion. Some ethical issues pop up in the end.

Oblivion for the third time. My favorite movie of the year, amazing story, characters, soundtrack and breathtaking cinematography! 9/10!

Saw Chronicle (2012), quite interesting, deals with telekinesis ... a bit of Looper.

Whoa......you watched Bullit and didn't see the car chase???? it's 11min long and was one of the highlights of the movie. McQueen was awesome and Robert Vaughan called it the best work he ever did. He was so good as the slimly DA it ruined his chances of running for political office in New York after as in polling all folks remembered was his role.
I did not say I did not see it, I just did not remember it. I have amnesia, seriously.

That moment of the film freaked me out although it was momentary, and i wanted to rewind and freeze there. IIRC, They said the exploding of the moon caused huge tidal waves etc, but from the pic it seems the moon is very much there although not in one piece. So the gravitation force will still be roughly the same.

Science books in my childhood days used to say that when the moon reaches a certain distance from the earth (2.5 times the radius of the earth) the tidal forces of the Earth will cause the moon to break into bits. The pieces would then circle the earth around the equator causing brilliant or spectacular sunsets. They did not mention huge tidal waves or tsunamis. (Roche Limit I think)

Just rewatched GRAND PRIX (1966) and Le Mans (1971) AGAIN on new blu-rays
The wife bought this week in New York.

Two of the best racing and action movies ever. If you can watch both on a large TV it's awesome.

Can't wait to see RUSH in a few weeks......James Hunt was one of the highlights in the late 70s F1.

I, too, am counting down the days to see 'Rush'. I am a huge sports car racing fan. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is my personal Christmas. The first BluRay I ever purchased was McQueen's 'Le Mans'.

I highly suggest you purchase the IMAX- Super Speedway BluRay, especially if you have your audio going thru a nice audio system. The sounds of this documentary (I think this is what it's considered) are incredible.

Went to the Hall and watched "MADRAS CAFE",it was about LTTE and the attrocities committed by them in Sri lanka..So many poor and innocent people died in the conflict. At the end V prabhakaran got what he deserved!I know he was fighting for tamil people rights over there but for some odd reason i cannot fathom how killing people would have helped him realize his goals!

Hereafter (co-produced Clint Eastwood, Steven Speilberg) Matt Damon.

Pretty good, quite interesting, about after death. Nothing great though. Damon is a psychic who can connect to dead people.

Yes Novelty Cinema Hall, ever heard about it?? I rarely go to multiplexes they are too costly!:)
It's highway robbery, what these multiplexes charge, and often the movie has been chopped down to accommodate as many shows as possible.

Saw two lousy flicks of late. I knew the moment i saw Kurt Russell on the starring list that Stargate was gonna be awful. Then last nights movie had Bruce Willis on the list. 12 Monkeys. Weak plot. Just avoid them.

Awww! I loved the dark humor, found it entertaining and Puerto Rico dressed up for a 1950's ball looked wonderful. As did Amber Heard.

Having read the novel and Thompson's letters from that period, I had hoped for more. Nevertheless, Amber Heard caught my attention and I enjoyed the film.

Agent vs. counteragent, government vs. citizen, you've seen all this a hundred times before. And with idealistic attorneys, no less!

Get the Gringo (2012) - Mel Gibson did a very fine job. I thought it was very entertaining. 7/10

The Master (2012) - Extremely artful peace of a drama film. Though I thought the plot was kinda drawn out at times. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I liked it. Joaquin Phoenix was just brilliant as usual. 8/10

Just saw "The World's End". At first, I was thinking there was something almost Dada-esque in its absolute silliness- but the way they tried to wrap up/ explain everything at the end sort of spoiled its total senselessness.

The Time Machine (2002) - Seemed interesting in the beginning, but then sort of went off the rails in the end.
