Trying Asics

Just purchased the Orange w/Black Asics Gel Resolution 5s. Was deciding between these and the Babolat Pro Pulse 4, anyone have experience with either of these shoes? I have tendonitis in both shins and right below both knees, and have been having problems with my arches, and wear orthotics in all of my dress/formal shoes. Arch and knee problems are from years of walking around in unsupportive flip flops and dress shoes, and tennis/training shoes that "almost fit" but not, due to many retail stores almost never carrying my size.

Propulses are really comfortable and have a wider fit. I've had them for a bit over a month and the grip is completely gone on the toe. Also the front white stripe on the side ripped off. But I'd buy them again especially because there's a 6 month guarantee.

Asics Gel Resolution 5s are the comfiest tennis shoes I've ever worn, and I've worn a lot. They should be perfect to help with your issues.

I ordered a pair of gr5s but found them to be a half size large so I had to size down. They felt comfortable but haven't worn them in a match yet.

I've got a "normal" foot, whatever that means....lol

My Propulse 4's needed a little break in but were comfortable, lots of support. Actually, after the break in, the toe box seems a little tight....but I honestly wouldn't wear the sneaks casually, only for tennis matches.

Wound up breaking a few of the holes where the laces go.

Tried on Asics Gel Solution Speeds.....now these were comfy right out of the box.....no break in required. To me it's like a running shoe with a lot more support.

And I can wear these shoes outside the tennis court. Although with the tennis ball yellow color, I stand out a lot!!:)

I'm into my 4th month in my Propulse 4's and really enjoy them. The break-in period was very short and my feet really felt great in them. I initially wore Superfeet (blue) in-soles with two socks, but for some reason I started to develop a nagging pain in my rt calf. I decided to change things up and went back to the factory insoles with a thicker Nike DriFit sock. My calf pain has finally subsided and have no complaints. Occasionally I'll experience my toes jamming, but otherwise it isn't an issue. My laces need to be replaced as the top velcro closures seem to catch my laces and shred them more than expected. Grip is decent as I felt the Adidas Barricade 7's have more grip. They also seem to be low to the ground, which I like as I have issues with over-supination.

I was part of the TW playtest of the Propulse 4. I really did not care for them. I am now in Asics Gel Solution Speeds and LOVE them. I have one clay sole pair and a hard court pair ( I play about 80% of the time on clay). I tried the Res 5 too and the Speeds are much better to me.

Resolution 4s are my go to shoe. Best shoes I've ever had. Looks like I'll miss on the 5, because I bought a couple of the bright 4 colors (the tennis warehouse exclusive). By the time I need to replace them, the 6s will probably be out.

Love the 5s

I just made the change from KSwiss Big Shot to Resolution 5 (the really, really yellow and black version). They are SUPER comfortable. Yes, for those that care, a little heavier than optimal. But maybe they will be indestructible like the KSwiss. They are much more comfortable-better cushioning and support in the midfoot area. I love the funky color.

I am a convert from the Adidas Barricade line and I wore them from the very beginning. I do tend to go through the soles quicker than the Adidas but now with the 6 mo warranty on the Gel Res 5 all is good. Good shoe.

For whatever reason I couldn't get the sizing right with the gr5's. My normal size, the shoe felt too long and when I tried a half size smaller, it felt too tight. It's unfortunate because the midsole is very cushioned, more so than any other shoe I've tried.

I did the same thing, I've got 3 unopened pairs waiting, including the blue and yellow colorway. And, while the 6s will likely be out by the time I need new shoes, I'm hoping the 5s will be on sale then. I really like both orange versions, I'd probably get them if they were on sale.

I purchased a pair a while ago without a 6 month warrenty and I wore them out within 3 months, I did not buy a new pair for the durability issue. I've been a baracade user since the begining, I think its time to test the GR's out again.

I wish they had a plain normal colorway, something with all black, or white and black, or all black. They usually have some offset color which i'm not a fan of.

I've just ordered my self a black and blue Res 5 pair. to see if it's better then the Nike CBs 4.3 (I've tried Barricades V but they are too clunky for me, while the Nike CB's have that unfortunate issue with the shoe laces).

I've worn other Asics tennis shoes on the street and have been dissapointed by the durability (the linning inside and the insole wears out pretty fast), we'll see....

You might be light though, b/c I'm 220 LBs at 6'2" and even the Nike CB's 4.3 kinda start to give in after a while and not provide proper support anymore (even more so the Vapors)....

I guess my question being: how about for heavy players?

NOTE: Barricades V (the latest model I got) feel too clunky though...

One of the orange GR5s ARE on sale at TW.

Flintft- I believe HCB is also around your height and weight. I'm 180 so not much help.

In terms of general everyday wear, I love them. I've not yet worked out or played in them, I'm nervous about this, I find the heel too loose but the toe box slightly tight if I get them tied tight enough to fit right. I might try getting a bigger set of laces and see if that improves anything.

Because they are so loose on the heel, I can't wear them without socks, as I sometimes like to do for daily wear, and have consequently gotten a blister on the side of me heel.

I love the mid-sole/arch support cushioning, that was the main reason I purchased these. So many shoes hit the ball of my foot when it's supposed to it my arch and love that this one actually hits my foot right in the middle where it is supposed to.

Wearing a brand new pair of tennis shoes without any break-in without any socks....logically speaking...seems like a recipe for blisters...right?

Maybe you should try breaking them in, playing in them, and wearing a pair (or possibly two pairs) of socks that have extra cushioning in the heel?

So were my black and blue 10.5s, last pair :)

And thanks!

I still got 2 more CBs 4.3 (one almost new) + one more Barricade V (newish) and I've left a brand new CB 4.3 in Europe, seeing that I've been playing on red clay for 4 consecutive years now (I might have just jynxed myself there lol).

All this talk about the GR5s made me go out and buy a pair. I'm tired of the barricade toe jams. I'll take them out a couple of times and i'll post my opinions vs barricade 7s here.

I will be buying a pair soon and was hoping you'd review what you felt about the GR5s.

I have both the gr5 and speeds - love them both. Can't think of switching to any other brand... BUT please asics do something about the hideous color combinations. And worse yet they seem to be getting worse with every season.

Also in Canada they don't seem to be bringing it the ones with upper made of synthetic leather (only the mesh ones- those wouldn't do even for walking for me, maybe for running).

Asics tennis sneakers saved me from having to keep trying on different brands in order to get the right glove like fit. I used to wear Nike shoes exclusively for years until they started to make the heel wider! Asics Resolution and the Speed series are great. And to think, they were solely (get it) just running sneakers.
