Annacone and Arias are goat commentators

Really enjoyed them during nadal and wawrinka today. Great insights and it was hard at times to pay attention to the match as I was trying to get everything there were saying. No surprise Annacone could get into the heads of some of the greats and earn their respect. Catch the match!

Annacone's doing TC now?...didn't know that, would love to see it but streaming only now without TC....reading Sampras' book I couldn't help be be incredibly impressed with Annacone...class act and smart

Arias is a Fed obsessed, big toothed buffoon. No way is he a good commentator.

Can't stand him either. All he does is try to find ways to defeat Nadal. Hasn't worked, but he still won't stop.

Did enjoy Annacone though. Great insights.

I don't care if Arias is pro Fed, anti Rafa, or vice versa; I just wish he'd shut up once in a while.

Lol you made Clarky look like a fool, oh wait...

Ouch... bad burn

I like the Clarkster, just pointing out that sometimes people's opinion of others are based on whether they like "their favorite pro" is a tad shallow. In this case, Arias' commentary ALONE should be the determining factor as to whether he's a good commentator, not whether or not he likes Federer. And if he likes Fed and expresses admiration for his game, well, what the heck is wrong with that?

Fed's style of play or "game" (shotmaking, movement, talent, etc.) clearly deserves admiration from anyone who loves tennis and can appreciate a special one-of-a-kind great (as is also the case with Nadal). And this appreciation of such greatness (be it Fed, Nadal, Djoko or past greats) should not be limited to shallow fanboy/fangirl "1-trick-pony" sniping.

And, why I idiotically (and idiotically) poke fun at a fanboy's "favorite pro" player: simply to bust the unreasonable "tards'" chops. They deserve it....besides, it's fun. ; -)

Oh btw, fwiw, Jimmy Arias in his day WAS the real deal....and probably knows a thing or two about tennis.

It was nice to hear a former Fed coach (Annacone) praising Rafa during that match. I kinda figured he'd talk down what Rafa was doing, but he gave him the credit he was due even though that match was far from his best.

Right, and in my opinion Arias is awful.

What's wrong with that is he actively cheers against Nadal, and does nothing but spout bs about how easy it would be to beat him if his opponent just followed his advice. His love for Fed also spills over into every match he commentates no matter if Fed has anything to do with what's happening on court or not. He has been nauseating this entire tournament when he commentates Nadal's matches. He does nothing but disrespect Nadal and his entire career with his silly sarcastic put downs of his entire game, especially his serve and ros. It's ridiculous.

I'm sure he knows about tennis, but that does not make him a good commentator. He is far too Fed obsessed for his own good and it shows.

Annacone was pretty good. He was definitely the voice of reason during Nadal's match against Stan yesterday. The other two yahoo's commentating with him were downright terrible.

I totally agree. While Arias like some other commentators can be pretty bias it does not take away from his knowledge. What I was impressed with is how Annacone and Arias went back and forth on strategy etc. I particularly enjoyed them pointing out when Stan should or not S&V in the ad court to a a lefty. It was clear the respect was mutual even despite the prestige Annacone has.

Annacone, if he wanted to stop coaching, could immediately be the best commentator. Great insights - and gets them across succinctly. And the interplay with Arias is good.

I agree. A commentator's job is to talk about the match, not the person. It's not just Nadal, but every other player who he is not "in"terested in. He makes disparaging remarks about many players.

I especially dislike it when they start commentating about what the player is thinking and doing. I'm like what? How on earth does he know what they think?

Annacone came off as extremely intelligent, fair, and personable.

It was a nice change.

Koenig is at least half of the GOAT team. Who completes that team, I do not know. Maybe Goodal. You know, it's like their personality comes through just enough that it gives their broadcasts character but you never really feel like you just want them to shut the F up. It's all about the balance.

I agree and he is a such a wimpy little dork, and that weird voice. How in the world could this weasel get a job as a commentator?

He did, as long as it's a one-of type of thing. Match in and match out, day in and day out, Annacone would get stale. I can already tell. It's nice to get the fresh perspective, kind of like how it was nice to hear from Milos, but I don't necessarily want to listen to them throughout a whole tournament.

Annacone: "it's not about Roger losing confidence, but a temporary lack of clarity and direction"

This coach is epic

Paul Annacone has some terrific thoughts/observations to add, but I can only put up with listening to his drone for about ten minutes. If I were producing the TC coverage in London, I'd keep an espresso machine in the booth for these guys just to help make their delivery a little more dynamic. I don't want them to spout off like a bunch of used car salesman, but they speak in a style that I associate with public access TV.

Brett Haber (sp?) is the liveliest one of the bunch and hell-OOO, he ain't even the tennis heavy!!!

As for Jimmy Arias, I've given him the Sharapova treatment - I watch the matches that he covers with the volume turned all the way down... yes, I'm serious.

I like both Arias and Annacone. Paul Annacone is superb and is one of my favorites along with Darren Cahill. I tend to really like the former pros such as Annacone, Cahill, P. McEnroe, J. McEnroe, Drysdale, and Brad Gilbert. All of them have their different styles, but all in all, there are some excellent commentators out there.

You might want to take a sip yourself: they're not in London, they're in Tennis Channel's offices in Los Angeles. That's been mentioned many times.

So what if he doesn't have a dynamic voice? It's the insights that matter.

Agreed content matters more although it is clear that they both do not have a recording voice. Arias has an annoying tone and annacone is monotone
