Official Nike Lunar Ballistec Thread

Hi all,

Didn't see a thread completely dedicated to the LBs. Overall, I think the reviews seem very good for the shoe, but even Granville from TW states that they are expensive.

How many people are turned away because of the price point? Only reason why I'm getting this shoe is because of gift cards from the holidays.

Yeah, the shoes are really pricey.. When you receive a pair of them, could you do a review for us?
Oh, by the looks of your username, are you Vietnamese?

I'm going to pick them up! I still have warranty credit from my last pair and I'm going to report back on the LB once it arrives. I've been a longtime user of the 4.3 and blew through 4 pairs of them. Can't wait until the LB comes in!

$165 for shoes...If it become trade and every company start charging I might stop playing tennis. I am exograating but pointing out the obvious.

for 165 I'd rather stock up on head IG prestige rackets... might have considered a different colorway at sale price but for these I'm definitely passing since the 4.3 us open red ones are so much better in terms of color and shoe....

In the review of the women's version:

Brittany - "It is very similar to the Nike Vapor 9 Tour and the Asics Gel Solution Speed shoes. All these shoes are light weight, comfortable and have about average durability. I would say the Vapor 9 Tour is slightly lower to the ground than the Lunar Ballistec."

I haven't read anything like this in the men's version. So I'm very interested if this is also the case for the men's version.

My question seems to be answered:

After this playtest, Chris is ready to say that this is favorite shoe he's tested (even better than the Vapor 9). They do sit lower to the ground than the past Ballistecs, but not quite as low as the Vapor.

I'm guessing it's between Zoom Air and Max Air.

I thought it was that Lame butt lunarlite air. ?? if you compare the lunarlite,,, it is thinner than Both Zoom air and Max air both.......

If they really put in Lunarlite air,,,,,i am NO longer buying this Lame shoe

Around $100 but ONLY if they won't cause foot problems, now that they've removed the air cushion....

^Actually it's not a bad idea to remove Air Max bubble. Many people reported issues with it popping or deflating throughout time. granted, the very thin outsole on the heel area was no stranger to this problem...

Obviously a replacement, but too expensive. Luckily I still got a couple of 4.3s...

How is this 'obviously a replacement'? If the price $5 or 19, maybe, but to jump the price up that much makes it seem like a new line, or some addition to the 4.3s.

why do everyone have.to say "pricePOINT" when "price" would suffice?

Heh. Same for me with "colorWAY", can't we just say "color"?

I like the design, but betweeen the pricePOINT and colorWAY, I think this is out of the running. I'm all for bright colorways and such, but having the whole shoe the same bright color is a bit much for me.

I don't like the design feature of any aspect of this shoe.
The upper looks like a few slides on a hard court would cause an instant rip.
Someone else mentioned that they would probably choose air max cages as their alternative but those such to imo.

Guess I'll have to wait another year and a half or two to see if nike listens to customer appeals.

I read this thread and it reminds me of how much the internet is for people that complain. I work in the industry (in tennis retail) and I can tell the people that probably don't know (or care) that the TW forums exist. They don't make crazy assumptions or beat things up before actually trying them on or hitting them (the racquets I mean). Almost every post in this thread has been negative so I'll try to turn that around by saying...

I for one will give them a shot. 2013 saw me become an Asics fan with the GR5 and SS1 (and liking the 2014 colorWAY for the Asics) but I am intrigued by the LBs because Nike used to be the $h*t when it came to tennis shoes and I'm hoping they can return to the top because in my opinion, the Vapor is the last great Nike shoe. I don't think the Cages are as good as they used to be and I bought a pair of 4.3s and hardly ever wear them for playing tennis (they are pretty fashionable though so they have their purpose). I'll be happy to give a review of the LBs when I get to try them on. My problem will be hoping my store orders my size (14) or maybe one of the competitors in my area orders my size.

For those who tried the shoes... how do they fit?

Should I get the same size as let's say Vapors and CB 4.3's?

Oh, brother. Exaggerate much?

Good post. Nike does get ripped unjustifiably on these boards - I'm sure some of it is a) they're the 600 lb gorilla in the athletic space; b) a bunch of kids who are not happy they can't afford all the gear they want.

The only criticism they deserve is not having the line ready when they say they will. My company manages a Supply Chain; it's not easy but it can be done. Nike has been missing way too often in the last 2-3 years.

Please do give a review after a few uses. Thanks in advance.

Can't agree with this, I'd say the hero-worship of Nike gear on here is far greater than that of any brand.

I really liked the CB2.3s, but since then they have made great fitting shoes (V9, 4.3) but none can hold up to serious use like the Barricade (lace loops or air bubbles breaking, soft soles...).

Nike still make the best socks and their clothing is pretty comfy- just the views of an impartial observer in this.

Agreed. No one is forcing you to pay $165 for new shoes.

Probably not. A colorWAY is the entire package of colors, e.g. a black shoe with white swoosh and white sole is a different COLORWAY than a black shoe with a blue swoosh and white sole. The COLOR of the shoe, most would agree, is black.

I got my pair today. I am very impressed, but right off the bat, you can definitely see why these aren't as durable as the previous models.

The LB's were definitely made for speed. They kinda remind me of the first Adizero Feathers from like 2 years ago.

Are you referring to the upper or the outsole as being less durable? Or both?

Hey WC Ace, I'll make sure I do as soon as I get my hands on a pair. It might be a couple of weeks. I have to see if the store where I work will order some size 14s. If not then I'll have to use some of my TW credit to get them from TW.

I'm excited about the lineup from both Nike and Asics this year. The new Speed Solution IIs look nice as well (black, gold and red). We have them in the store and I think the pics don't do them justice. My wife is going nuts with the number of tennis and golf shoes I have. :)

I was merely just stating that this is a completely different concept for a ballistec shoe line up. Though I have no idea of the performance aspect of this shoe as does everyone else, I do have some doubt as to durability/comfort every loyal CB users have known to like. Why else would Nadal's version feature the previous versions tread pattern and not the retail version? We all know Nadal may get custom shoes but not to the extent of different tread patterns.
And please, I can buy the tennis gear I want thank you very much. It's not all about getting the latest gear that's important to some people, it's the trust that a product will perform well as it is intended to be.

Outsole. Upper seems fine. Smart design element is applied to the dragon on the inner part near the toe. It seems to be elevated there in a way that it won't wear down that easily . These are much more roomy in the toe-box

How does it compare to the Vapor 9s? I know the weight is about the same but wondering if the comfort and stability is equal or better.
