In order to stay classy you have to be classy in the first place. In TheNatural's case, he never was. He's a Rafita fangirl dressed as a Sampras fan, nothing more.

Actually you have it backwards. He's a Sampie dressed in Ralph's capris who's permanently butthurt from Fed destroying his idol's records. Oh yea true story that.

I just realised that Novak lost a slam match after winning the first set. Oh my god, he's gone from one of the mentally toughest players ever to a mental wreck. Unbelievable, when was the last time he lost a match in a slam AFTER winning the first set?

Man... this sucks. Was looking forward to that epic battle that Nadal would have had with Djoko had they both got there. I am not one of those guys that want to avoid playing the best, to be the best you have to beat the best, which Djoko clearly is at the Aussie Open :(

Predicting that the number #1 player in the world will reach the final is not really a bold prediction is it?

No, it is not a bold prediction. I was asserting that it is a foregone conclusion because there was so much unjustified furore about his 'tough draw' this time because he usually gets the kindest of draws.

And for the record, I have already stated that for this particular AO, there can be no tough draw for Nadal, because Murray and Delpo are not in top form. Djoko is the only guy who can be expected to stop Nadal in the second week of a slam and people said Djoko had an easy draw, which wasn't exactly true. He had gone the distance with Stan twice before and again had Stan landing in this draw.

It is the hypocrisy/double standards that I was calling out.

so who is it that benefits from slower hardcourts???

You do know that last year they went 16-14 into the fifth set, on the 'slower' hardcourts.

Bottom line, Stan - Novak just put out five set epics that could go either way.

Unless someone can correct me, I think it was the 2010 FO QF when he lost from 2-0 up.

Today is sad day for us all. :(

12-10, you might be thinking of Feddick 2009 Wimbledon.

Point still stands, though.

One of the commentators on Aussie Open radio said he doesn't see how Becker's coaching would benefit Novak. Interesting to see if there is any fall out from this loss.

I think it's too early to tell. Stan has taken taken Novak to five sets in two different recent Slams before today. So, it's not like Novak could not have lost anyway. I don't know what people are expecting a high-profile coach to do. Stan's a tough matchup for Djokovic. Becker can't change that. No coaching change is going to result in the player winning all of his matches.

Stan will now lose to TBerd as he'll be too tired and Nadal will have his pigeon in the final who also happens to be his cheerleader. And even if Stan does make the final, it's worth noting that he hasn't even won a single set against Nadal. Not one, doesn't get easier than that for Nadal.

I missed it. I effing missed it!!! Why didn't I set it to record?

I was thrilled that it was still on when I woke up for work. It was 3-3 in the 5th set. I first saw the score on my phone, but was doubtful that I would be able to watch b/c I don't have ESPN2, and some of the matches on ESPN2 aren't available for veiwing online on WatchESPN. But, this was, which was a nice surprise. Good way to start the morning.

Clearly Djokovic tanked this so he wouldn't have to face Nadal, had to make it look convincing so he took it to five before losing 9-7

I saw the first set before leaving for work. But then I had to sneakily follow the score on the computer. Ugh, hope they replay it.

Rafa still has 2 matches to play before he gets to the final so a lot of people here handing the title to him already are being misguided. Rafa was not good against Kei so I wouldn't be surprised if he lost to Federer/Murray in the semi, should he get through Dimitrov.

Re: Djokovic's interview - I see nothing bad there, he was very gracious in his loss as he usually is and fair play to him for that. Well done Stan though, amazing win for him. 3rd time lucky!

It was only a matter of time before Stan beat Novak looking at how close their past 2 matches were. It is not Becker's fault or Novak's. I hope they show an encore even if he is not American. I wouldn't mind seeing Stan win his first slam.

Federer is cheerleading for Stan on his twitter . Ha ha.
But this is not half as epic as when Berd cheerleads for Nadal because of their respective H2Hs.

Me either, he's a good sport and his tennis is awesome.
He definitely deserves to win the title after taking out the same guy who has won it 3 times in a row. It is almost like the Safin-Federer semifinal in 2005, except a round earlier.

Congrats to Stan! He deserves to finally get the better of Novak after playing 3 tight 5 setters against him in the last 3 Slams they have met at. A clear case of 3rd time lucky!

Just hope it hasn't taken too much out of him and he has enough energy to give Berdy a battle in the semis. Coming through 2 tough matches aginst 2 top 10 players back to back will be his next challenge and one that he has to meet if he's finally going to go all the way in the big events!

Indeed, just like Federer tanked the USO. They don't want Nadal to complete the Player Slam

More seriously... pretty big loss for Djokovic who's not the holder of any Slam for the first time since 2010.

Then again, Nadal wasn't holding anything either after AO 2010 and look at the rest of the year. There's still a lot of 2014 left.

uh, who won last year vs this year

please face it; Nole loves slower hardcourts, not Nadal as is the ongoing fallacy around here...

Ouch! If all pros have to go through that it is not strange that they choke sometimes, their nuts must be completely retracted.
