Brad Gilbert has said over and over again that it's a 98 s.i. frame. If he's wrong, then he should have been corrected, since it's live TV. Fed's entire marketing team are watching every broadcast, they'd jump on BG like a dog in heat if he had the wrong information.

I think it's safe to assume it is truly 98 s.i.

I'm surprised Wilson haven't painted it. Imagine if he wins the AO with this blacked out stick. Wilson will surely be annoyed at not having their logo on display.

During the Tsonga match, Patrick McEnroe had both Federer's old and new racquet in the booth. He laid the heads over each other and though it was quick it looked like the old racket head completely fit inside the new head. He also referred to it as a 98 and that it had more beam thickness than the old 90.

No he just had two regular wilsons

no he didn't. He had some generic Pro Staff 90 and a Blade 98s from the proshop just as an example. It wasn't Fed's racquets. If we know anything for sure, is that commentators and ex-players know NOTHING about gear/equipment or what other pros use. It's been confirmed time and time again by idiotic comments about gear.

My mistake. Should have paid more attention. It sounded like he said they were the actual racquets.

The current proto definitely has PWS, whereas the proto he used last year did not. 3 mains in the throat vs. 4 for the prior proto (3 grommets versus 4 in the old). He definitely seems more confident/comfortable with this proto than the previous one, just didn't look right seeing him hit with a non-PWS racquet.

1. Is it marketing to say the head size is a 98? Do you really think he doesn't know that?

2. Nowhere near the GOAT? Wow, ok.

Do you follow tennis?

A lot of people don't follow tennis. Then there are a lot of people who watch tennis but can't play, so they don't know what they're watching anyway.

One needs to lower his/her expectations on these boards.

I think, it is either or Prostaff ROK (of course with modified string pattern) or a Wilson Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 MidPlus

Doubt it. The PS ROK was a 93" frame, no way the current proto is that small. It also had a squarish, almost Yonex like shape that the proto does not. The Hyper PS has the smallish throat of PS's (the bottom of the throat doesn't come that close to the top of the grip), the proto's throat is def bigger/longer. Plus, i doubt that Fed would switch to a PJ of a racket with tech that old, would defeat the purpose of him switching.

What about a Hyper Pro Staff 5.0 MP? :)

It's got oval-ish beams, thin beamed, and if it's more easy power that Federer wants, then the Hyper Pro Staff 5.0 MP would fit the bill. If you've hit with the 5.0, then you know that racquet had more power than a truck.

IIRC there was a 98" ROK in the EU but its headshape was still like the 93.

I almost want to say HPS 7.1 Zone but the 7.1 yoke is shaped differently and the head is too oval to be Fed's stick.

LOL..good point. Fed goes on TV, discusses his 98 racquet size and how he increases the tension to compensate for that and people think it is marketing.

People who have strung his racquet say it is a 98 on these boards, and then say it is a prototype. And I still see recent posts guessing that it is a 95 and an old model. Wow.

I think they should leave it black and market and sell it that way.
Darth Federer Stealth weapon. That would be cool.

You're right there was a ROK 98 in the EU - had an 18x20 pattern though

I agree. Love the matte black look. The Blade 93 with its non glossy stealth black paintjob is one of my all time favourite paint and would love to see more of this on Wilson's range.

It was confirmed that it was 98.

Also confirmed that it is 16x19 and has PWS.

So, this is a one off for Wilson. Closest would be a Blade 98, but with PWS added.

You know that big a** tournament they're playing on that island of a continent? What's it called... hmmmm, I feel like I should be searching for its name, yeah?

What is your problem? I'm asking what website or source the pic is from, not what tournament. Get a life.

It looks smaller than 98. Did Roger confirm head size himself?

YES. GOAT himself said it is 98 head size. but I dont' think that matters at all. 95, 100 or 98,,,,not a lot of difference to amateurs. Only to Roger.

only thing that will really matter is flexibility. I wonder if it will be fairly Stiff frame like his Prostaff 90 ?
