I had my angry post all ready as this team was again going to fail to make the final 16 of a major event. But what a great comeback from the freshman. This match still should not have been this close.

In Houston there will be a lot of Horns. I'm hoping that a crowd can pull the team through maybe an upset.

Horns edge Wake Forest 4-3. Looking at WF's roster, it's huge (16) , how do they carry that many guys ? Good wins for WF at #3 and #4 singles, young American players. In the end it came down to Clement Homs at #6 who pulled it out in a third set TB.

RESULTS
Singles
1. #75 Soren Hess-Olesen (TEX) def. #20 Romain Bogaerts (WFU) 6-2, 6-3
2. #59 Adam Lee (WFU) def. #35 Lloyd Glasspool (TEX) 6-4, 6-3
3. Max Kan (WFU) def. #24 George Goldhoff (TEX) 6-4, 6-4
4. Jon Ho (WFU) def. Adrien Berkowicz (TEX) 4-6, 6-2, 6-4
5. Nick Naumann (TEX) def. Pedro Dumont (WFU) 6-5 (7-2), 6-1
6. Clement Homs (TEX) def. Aws Laaribi (WFU) 2-6, 6-4, 6-5 (7-3)

Doubles
1. #5 Soren Hess-Olesen/Lloyd Glasspool (TEX) def. #30 Adam Lee/Pedro Dumont (WFU) 6-5 (7-2)
2. Max Kan/Romain Bogaerts (WFU) vs. Nick Naumann/David Holiner (TEX) 5-4, unfinished
3. #55 George Goldhoff/Jacoby Lewis (TEX) def. Aws Laaribi/Anthony Delcore (WFU) 6-3

I'm looking forward to seeing the Longhorns in person Saturday vs Alabama and was glad to see them win yesterday. SHO played great to dispatch Bogaerts like that

Vicious vik,

You really just have no idea about the papa situation considering you don't know that the only reason he is going to school is because the usta was dropping their support of him. Papas family wanted him close to home which is why everyone thought he was going to be at oklahoma, including roddick, but papa and his family didn't care much for roddick and Tulsa had a lot of money-which the papa family needs so they were able to offer him a lot.

Next, I still don't understand the big vendetta against center. Remember that he is a big part of getting goldhoff and berkowicz to texas. It just seems like of texas isn't successful this seasons, according to your standards, then you will blame center, and if they are successful then you will say something like the team overcame centers bad influence.

Lastly, I would still like to hear about your ties to Sudanwa Sitaram.

Good to see that you are supporting texas. Just unfortunate that you have to talk so negatively about the team when they are down, even now you say you don't cheer for losers, but when the team does well you are all for us. Let me know when you are at the next dual match.

I do suport Texas. I think as a whole athletic department the school has gone down recently . We are TEXAS. There is too much cushiness in the department now. Coaches are getting too comfortable. It was good to see Mack get axed at last. This is a problem with all of our sports recently with the maybe exception of volleyball.

I will admit I like the way the team looks this year so far. Maybe Center has finally got some fire back. The last few years it looked like he was phoning it in and just doing the best with what he had and not going for the best. Maybe some of my posts on here gave him a kick up the rear which is really my intent. I want the team to do well. I am not saying things in here to slam the players or coaches, I want them to be the best that they can be.

Sudanwa is in my extended family through marriage and I have known him for quite some time. I'm a little upset he isn;t playing so much this year but what is best for TEXAS must be done.

I may go to some matches this year. I am looking at March 7th maybe.

Rattler,

First off vicious vik isn't the coach. Second you are out of your mind and have no idea about the texas team if you don't think center gets mad and yells at the team. Coaches all do it their own way especially during the match. Coaches like boland, Peter smith, knoll, Siegel, just to randomly name some randomly dont get super angry and frustrated on the court while coaches like Roditi, roddick, dancer, winterbotham/woodruff, McKinley can be seen being visibly and vocally really loud and frustrated. All these coaches have had their relative successes and coach at big programs.

To answer your question tho yes I have seen It happen and I don't think that makes center a Girl Scout just because he doesn't do that in public like roddick will at times. I'm not saying one way is better but clearly both ways have been used and both are successful.

Woa, calm down dude.....I never for a second thought that VV was the coach, I know Mike Center.

I also know the bulk of the coaches you name dropped, be careful and watch your step, I don't want you to trip on any of those names there.

Roddick is by far one of the worst at unleashing an obscenity laced tirade at his players...just ask any other coach or umpire.

I was trying to make a point, obviously it flew right over your head, so much so that you think I'm out of my mind. How nice for you.

You must be a prize, how proud your parents must be?

Whatever, take your pointed little head, pat yourself on the back assuring yourself that your always right, and never misunderstand anything......hurry along now and leave the big people talk to the adults.

I don't think it's a big deal to name drop on here. Especially if you aren't saying anything very inflammatory. Everyone knows what those coaches like to do and not do.

I do like the comments about being a prize, my parents being proud, and me needing to run along, treating the situation as if I'm a child and you are an adult. How creative of you!

Well, to my defense, in your initial post I though you were being a typical message board blow-hard.

Please never confuse me with Vicious Vik, one crazed Longhorn is enough.

Thanks for the clarification, it's all good dude.

In that case, why did you not have another try at making your point (that's what the "adults" you refer to would do), instead of wasting a whole post with no explanation?

Bama tomorrow. Should be alright in this one. Some tricky players at the top, not too sure about their depth. Hopefully we take care of this one and get out of the funk we were in against wake! Hook 'em!

It'll be a good match. Alabama can hang for a while but I think Texas is too deep for Alabama to cause an upset.

Here we go again,

1st off, the point is easily understood as originally written, even with the type-o. So no explanation needed, I'll let you go back on an adventure and re-read it....won't that be fun.

Perhaps it is too difficult for you to wrap your noodle around...if that is so, well then I don't know how to respond. Seems to me, if that is true, that speaks more about you and your limited abilities than my ability to convey a point....did I lose you? A circular argument can at times seems hard to follow....I hope your still here.

2nd, I can only assume you didn't read the rest of the thread to see that ChadHill and I are fine, the matter is fully resolved...But thanks for gallantly coming to ChadHill's rescue, even though he clearly demonstrated that he didn't need your assistance.

BTW Mr. Reading Comprehension, I was only defending myself, sorry you wouldn't/couldn't see that aspect. It is clear I didn't attack anyone, but thanks for trying to pile on.

Please read the following with an imaginary scolding teacher voice, condescending to her pupil (I chose a female voice because nothing condecends better than a female in authority)..."Sometimes people can disagree, argue and still come to an understanding without going into an all out belligerent flamefest."

In other words, butt out, mind your own business, or whatever other quant saying you like that lets you know you poked your nose where it didn't belong.

Clark likes to remind all of us every once in a while that he is indeed the smartest person on this forum.

Actually, I like to remind others that there are ways to have constructive discussions on a public forum. Venting and emoting are not examples, alas. If someone thinks someone else missed their point, then they could re-phrase their point.

Did they really not play out the tiebreak at #1 dubs? Score shows 5-5 (4-6) susp. That saved everyone a whole 15 seconds of time.

Yes the Texas guys basically ran off the court as soon as #2 clinched. The Bama assistant came over and signaled its over to his guys. They didht look too miffed either.

They stopped play after 4. That was like an hour and a half. Large crowd confused by the sudden stop and left wanting more.

Clemson, can you give an update by individuals on how they are playing? I don't live in Austin anymore but would love to hear how these players are progressing…. One thing that is still puzzling is David Holiner. He's had some pretty nice wins in his career but i can't understand why he can't stay consistent.

The coaches must have agreed to stop at 4 since the experimental rules say to play out except during the Indoor Tournament Matches

Absolutely. Will do so when I get home.

Texas has a nice facility which is right in the heart of their campus. Football and basketball can be scene in the distance (lots of Kansas fans milling about today waiting for basketball some came and checked out men's college tennis since their school does not have a men's team).
The tennis courts are laid out into two sets of 3 which you can go back and worth and watch.

Doubles was very tight today and Alabama could have easily taken it, but Becker did not play his best on court 2 and gave Texas a few free points. Soren had a letdown of his own on court one during court 1s doubles tiebreak which almost gave Bama the win their (they stopped at 6-4 Bama up). Court 3 was the difference as Texas was able to stave off a late Alabama rally.

Singles:

1: Soren Hess-Olesen led Daniil Proskura 6-4 1-2
I know they are twins but it's insane how similar Soren is to Esben. They look very much the same and have the same on court mannerisms (which is always kinda sulky never really getting that positive). He plays a bit more controlled than Esben and does not go for as many reckless winners which probably explains his more consistent resume. Proskura likes to play aggressive and goes for close to line ***** with his lefty forehand. SHO kept Proskura off balance and Proskura ended up making quite a few bad looking errors and made some poor on court decisions for much of the 1st set. This match was probably headed Olesen's way when it was stopped unceremoniously.

2: Lloyd Glasspool def Becker O'Shaughnessey 6-3 6-2
I enjoyed watching this match. Glasspool is a good player to watch play. Has a big streamline serve which he moves around the box well. Hits more aces than many other college players do because of this. He is a first strike player and likes to take control early. He does not play reckless though as some players of this style tend to do. He hits with a lot of power, much of it flat and efficient. He can also come to the net at times. He had Becker uncomfortable all match and this one never looked like it was going the way of the Crimson Tide. I had a video of Glasspool closing out the match I will upload.

3. George Goldhoff led Nikko Madregallejo 6-4 3-1
These two played a very similar style but Goldhoff had more firepower overall. Scrappy player who likes to move a lot around the court and can hit shots from everywhere. I didn't see a ton of this match but it looked like Goldhoff was pretty much in control.

4: Adrien Berkowicz def Saxon Buehning 6-1 6-1
Berkowicz is such a weird player, it's like you want to keep watching. He has aesthetically awful looking movement but functionally it's not bad. he appears to be lanky and unathletic and yet you see winners flying by the other player. His lank and range allows for him to re-direct shots to any part of the court Buehning really had no chance in this match.

5: Nicolas Naumann def Stuart Kenyon 6-1 6-1
I didn't watch much of this except at the end. Naumann is pretty good at hitting shots inside the baseline and from awkward positions. Kenyon has a funky wind up and way of hitting his forehand, something Naumann was able to pick apart.

6: David Holiner led Andrew Goodwin 6-4 4-1
I see a couple comments above about Holiner but this was actually the match I saw the least of.I know Holiner was down 4-2 in the beginning and then dominated from there on out. The only thing I gleamed from Holiner is that he appeared to be coming to net quite a bit.

I wish the match had been played out. It was over in less than 2 hours and there were still a decent a amount of fans left at the end who didn't look like a crowd begging for it to end on the contrary I heard a few comments about it being quick. (of course this had a lot to do with Texas walloping the Tide). I enjoyed it, looking forward to going back for some other matches and seeing how they look against other opponents.

why did it take you so long to report on the match? are you actually going to these or getting info from others?

since the match was so short I checked out the campus and Austin and then the salt lick. I'm sorry, I should have run to a computer somewhere to report immediately.

My gut tells me this Texas team is top 12 material - and depending on how well Goldhoff plays, as well as getting solir/reliable play at the #6 line, could be as high as 8-9-10.

Curious what do you think?

I agree. They brushed aside an Alabama team that just gave Cal a very tough match like they were Troy or something. Goldhoff keeping up his level will be very important for the success for this team as you said. Holiner played at 6 today but I think Homs is the leader in the clubhouse for that permanent position but we will see. I do think Soren is susceptible at 1 against better competition which could hurt Texas. But I think this team could be as high as #8. That match with Oklahoma will be so good.

I think UT can make a push to be the #2 team in the state this year behind Baylor. As for conference, I think Baylor and OU have stronger teams on paper this year -- and they both have a shot at top 5 finishes.

Baylor probably is the best of the three but it's all very close. OU vs Texas, Oklahoma would be the favorite at 1-3 while Texas would be the heavy favorite at 5 and 6. #4 Webb vs Berkowicz and doubles would be the swing matches with Texas having to take both to win. But we have lots of tennis before that! It will be a fun season in the Big 12 for sure with Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and TCU all showing improvement as well especially Okie State.

why are you guys saying Baylor is the best? What have they done to prove that? And Oklahoma? Please I'm more scared of a chinchilla with a sombrero than a John Roddick coached team.

The only concern I have about the Longhorns is.. well you guys already know what it is, but it's the only thing I can see at this point holding us back.

Swept Rice and Arkansas this weekend, here are today's scores:

Singles (Order of finish: 4, 6, 2*, 1, 3, 5)
1. No. 75 Søren Hess-Olsen (Texas) def. Jovan Parlic (Arkansas) 6-1, 6-2
2. No. 35 Lloyd Glasspool (Texas) def. Mike Nott (Arkansas) 6-2, 6-1
3. Adrien Berkowicz (Texas) def. Hall Fess (Arkansas)6-1, 6-3
4. Nick Naumann (Texas) def. Santiago Munoz (Arkansas) 6-1, 6-0
5. David Holiner (Texas) def. Christian Lee (Arkansas) 6-2, 6-4
6. Clement Homs (Texas) def. Johan den Toom (Arkansas) 6-2, 6-0

Has anyone seen highlights of the Rice match? I heard Tricky Nick had an amazing shot where he jumped off the back wall to hit an overhead winner. I talked to someone there who said it was the craziest shot they had seen.

Rice gave LSU everything they could handle today and was in winning position before Simpson fought back. The Longhorns demolished that same Rice team. This is looking like a top 10 team.

Rice had them beat before cramps took down the #1 singles player. But they haven't fared well against top 25 since, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

The Salt Lick, in Driftwood? (I hope).

Your really getting around this part of Texas pretty well.

You better believe it was in Driftwood. Drove on these country roads where the speed limit was 60 and to me it seemed like it should have been 45 at most. But yeah I like driving and exploring so it's cool.

Clemson - thanks for the video. Looks like SHO on the adjacent court? and Nauman next to that?

Appreciate the analysis on an OU match up -- I'd not considered that 4-5-6 might be the keys to that dual. That makes it far more interesting because 1-2-3 are capable of upsets.

Yes that is SHO playing next to Glasspool. The one next to SHO is actually Goldhoff. the courts were set up 3,1,2. Then 5,4,6 and were on the back so Naumann is not in that video.
