Dunlop Grip Question

Which synthetic grip feels (and weighs) closest to the old Hydramax Tour? (grips attached to the original Hotmelt 300g's)

I realized they're discontinued already. I've been looking everywhere but I can't find it. Any idea what grip replaced the Hydramax Tour?

No, to me it just feels like an updated re-branding. The white colour has a slightly drier feel to it, whereas the black has a slightly more rubbery feel to it.

As far as a comparison with Hydramax that on the AG4D models, its pretty much an exact match.

Check chicagojacks thread. About 1.8mm thick and uncut weight of about 16g. Not likely to affect anything much if you are switching from one standard synth grip to this grip.

The re-issue has the viper dry grip. Are you going to use an over grip? If so, I would suggest the gecko tac as your base grip. I use the gecko tac on my bio 300s with an overgrip and the gecko tac has a nice firm feeling for a synth grip, whereas some can feel a bit too spongy.

Honestly I'm asking because I acquired one brand new (original) 300g with the original grip on it and another one with no replacement grip. And I hate to see the new one go to waste.

More of an OC kind of thing really :oops:

All three grips are Dunlop branded, but the Biomimetic Tour does have Biomimetic Tour written through it. Gecko Tac has Gecko Tac written on it, but would work because it is a grip name rather than a racquet name, similarly with the Viper Dry.

If you stick a Viper Dry on it, it will look like the re-issue, which isnt a bad thing. If youre going to use it, my preference is the Gecko Tac base grip with and overgrip of choice on top.

I'm sure if you searched there may be some places with Hydramax stocks. I know what you mean though.

Apart from the Bab Skin Feel on my Exo3 93, I always match grip brands to the racket. I'm searching for a ResiPro in the leather colour, but can't find it in the UK.

Yeah, they're pretty hard to find. I searched every sporting goods store and couldn't find one.

I want the bevels of my grip to be more defined. Yes, I know the obvious answer is a leather grip. I actually have two of them. Just not sure if I'm going to attach them yet or not.

Well, I have the Bio 300 which is very similar in terms of spec. I have dabbled on and off with leather and it seems to lose something with the leather. Whether it is the extra weight in the handle, I'm not sure. The SW isnt high and they are almost even balanced in stock form which I think works well for this weight of racket. Also, with the synth grip the racket feels more comfortable in the hand and seems to whip through the air quicker.

If you want a firmer feel, the Gecko Tac is firmer than the Hydramax Tour.

I will have a search for you as well, four eyes better than two.

Very interesting thread for me. Can someone make a comparison in terms of thickness and feeling beetwen the Viperdry and the Gecko-Tac replacement grip?

Thickness wise, very similar. You would not notice a difference, they are both standard thickness grips at 1.8mm. Similar too in terms of softness/compression, both fairly firm in my opinion.

The main difference is feel. The Gecko Tac is, by its name, tacky. It has a smooth finish with small performations. The tack is good but it does go slippy if you are a sweater and needs wiping down. The Viper Dry is.......dry feeling. It is covered in tiny perforations and has a dryer, rubbery feel to the grip. Very similar to ResiPro or Wilson Sublime.

Thank you for the answer. Which of two is better with a thin overgrip for you? Do you play without a overgrip?

I use the Gecko Tac. It seems firmer that other synth grips and I feel it works well with an overgrip.

I doubt it. The Gecko Tac is about standard weight, around 14g. If you want to add some weight but use the gecko tac, maybe some thin strips of lead along the pallet might give you the extra grams you need.

DESCRIPTION
This grip is the perfect length for a squash handle and will not fit a tennis racquet handle
