Apparently the standing long jump is used at many combines for pro athletes, so it is a fairly simple way to test your explosive movement.
I first tried it on carpet and found the landing a bit jarring. Today I went and tried it in the backyard by jumping off a concrete walk into a planter. I was able to rake the planter to get a nice landing spot in fairly soft dirt, which also allows a distinct mark for measuring. On my forth jump I got 8'6" which was significantly better than my almost 7' jump on carpet.
I'm going to track my progress in standing long jump as the year progresses and I start training for more power.
LeeD, you better start training!
