I would heartily disagree. Halep does not play the game waiting for errors from her opponent. She actually constructs points. There is no brainless ball bashing or waiting out her opponent. She is consistent. Is able to change the direction of the ball easily and uses angles. Then after she has opened up the court, she hits a winner. If you look at the W:UE ratio of some of her recent matches they have been almost 2:1. When was the last time Errani had >20 winners in a math?

This is such an excellent assessment of Halep's game.

2013. But not in a match. I think Errani hit 20 winners in all of 2013:)

Disagree with what? you just confirmed of what i said that Halep is more comparable to Errani than to anyone else in top 10. I never said she IS like Errani

The sudden screaming by Svitolina is pretty distracting. Especially since she seems to scream well after contact with the ball. Does she do that often?

Look at those stats. 16 double faults and over 100 unforced errors between the two of them!

This was the best moment from the Ana / Svitolina match

MqJwjwTFIX7

LOL! I call this glumping (goat leg pumping...when Ana leg pumps it's goat).

I'm working so don't get to watch any of it today, but at least she had 51 winners to go with 67 UE (8 of which were DFs), so sounds messy but at least fun. Sounds like they were both going for it.

Yeah it was a great little R2 match. More than I expected from Svitolina. Ana actually played very well, particularly set 2.

And Kerber goes down to No. 76 Maria Teresa Torro Flor in 3 sets.

Are there any German women left in the draw? Goerges, Lisicki, Kerber, Petkovic, Barthel- all gone. Annika Beck is the last German woman standing.

Next up for Giorgi: Sharapova. I've got a feeling that this match will be on TV.

This match could be very interesting. I think that Giorgi could stand up to the power of Sharapova. And she can generate a lot of power for her size. She moves well so she likely won't send back to Maria as many defensive shots that Maria ends up crushing. And yes, this match should be televised.

Good stuff from Taylor Townsend. She just took the second set from Flavia Pennetta. Yet another American woman (if she wins this match) to be touted the next Serena Williams. :)

If she can play with the top right now that says alot. She is 17. Who knows what the upside on her is. I would never say Serena. There aint many Serenas out there.

OK, so I'm really impressed with Townsend's retrieving, anticipation, confident ball striking, and even touch. I'm just surprised that she can be at this level and appear overweight. I realize I'm channeling Richard Krajicek here..

This Halep Safarova match is already pretty entertaining!

Edit: they're both fighters, and the quality of the tennis is high at the moment. Really fun.

Edit2: I shall not be held responsible for any viruses. Also, let me know if this is not acceptable to post. Stream (Italian commentary).

Halep makes less errors at high speed, more balanced, 5-2
Safarova is suffocated for now

Yeah, it went from competitive to one-sided in a hurry. First four games were pretty great, but right now Safarova is making too many unforced errors. Let's see if she straightens things out.
