I Stand By Bouchard: Leader of the Genie Army, Ready to Rise and Conquer the World!

Make no mistake, she is the real deal. Currently the youngest player in the top 20, and her ranking will only continue to rise. Very likely will become the best Canadian singles tennis player of all-time for both men and women. Genie definitely has the potential to become a future #1 and Grand Slam champion. She has already proven she has the mental fortitude by winning the 2012 Junior Wimbledon title. She has also beaten two former #1's, and two Grand Slam winners. The sky's the limit for the leader of the Genie Army!

I love this thread already. I hope she becomes the next WTA GOAT just so we get to see more of her matches.

Love her but alot of pressure on her right now to win more consistently. Has looked solid in Charleston but it's a long road to #1 or a major.

IF she can do it (always a big if until it actually happens - that's the nature of sports), Sharapova-like fame and fortune await. She is beautiful and well spoken.

These threads need to stop.

That being said, she is very hot.
Honestly, my main intention is to have a thread where people can keep up to date with her progress with her latest results and such, because certainly not every match is worthy of having its own thread.

But... I thought I'd play along with the title, instead of some generic "Official Genie Bouchard Progress Thread".

Absolutely... all I'm saying is she has the potential to do it, not saying that it's a lock to happen.

However, the trajectory of her career so far is very similar to Azarenka's... and experts predicted that she would become a Grand Slam champion years before she did.

Well, she has a chance of being a solid top 10 player, but I really can't understand this constant drooling over her looks - she looks so boring and plain to me...

While obviously looks are a totally subjective thing, there are many other qualities that make her likeable to the masses. She has the down-to-earth girl-next-door vibe and has a playful demeanor. Of course, she could also kick our butts at tennis, and the love of tennis is why we're here in the first place.

Agree to disagree. She's still got a bit of babyfat but when made up she's as gorgeous as any woman on the planet. Non make-up she's still super cute

Can the Mods take this thread to the Odds & Ends/Guys Only, please?

Nahh, don't be a party pooper - this thread will legitimately track her results, which are likely to be better than Kournikova's. It will be warm today with her semifinal appearance in Charleston.

It's inevitable with the hot ones that some photos and day dreaming will be included. Nothing wrong with that.

Her match against Petkovic starts in 75 minutes. Genie is 0-2 against her so far. Will she be able to figure her out this time?

Damn, she needs to get over that failed fool. It's a little weird how she's so opposed with him it seems, but hey no one's perfect :-|

He's only failed since he got in trouble. Before that, he was massively successful. People didn't hate him because he got in trouble, they hated him because he was successful with a brand of music that was directed towards children and early teenagers. And I'm one of those people that doesn't like his music at all, but before the DUI's and such he seemed like a nice level headed kid. Obviously, he's since gone off the rails.

In other words, before, any objective person didn't actually dislike/hate Bieber, they just didn't like his music and the fact that it got popular with a massive bunch of young kids. Kind of jealousy in a way. Now he's giving people reasons not to like him as a person.

I'm sure you can see the difference.

So far Genie is blowing Petkovic off the court. Genie is playing really well so far, serving up the breadstick in the first set.

Bouchard could use a new coach. They miked her present coach after she got broken in the 2nd and he sounded like a rah-rah high school tennis coach with no substance.

You're swimming upstream on this one.

The experts give Saviano a ton of credit for her progress to the upper levels. His on-court coaching is specific yet positive. He challenges her and inspires her. Yes, he repeats some of his cliches alot, but this relationship has not yet run its course.

Ugh, the fondness for Justin Beiber is real. Although she wants him to mature.

The weirdness starts at about 14 min.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dIXHzcvHlY#t=883

K so an interviewer after one of her wins at the AO asked who her favorite celebrity was ... stupid question, but interviewers at tournaments and on tv shows these days seem to be sponsor bundler enablers ... remember at mutua madrilena when announcers wet themselves over will smith attending to watch federer play? and then they had him participate in the trophy ceremony too? it's a trend getting worse and worse every year and it prompts questions like this about celebrities.

that's what the screech voiced brunette was talking about, and apparently genie admits her answer of justin bieber stirred controversy ... that of course was the inception of the genie army and the whole stuffed animals thing ... is that what you meant by "wierdness'??? that was before bieber had the whole beverly hills neighbor trouble and the miami dui ..... he's a canadin so i can understand why she looked up to him .... he's a self-made talent who's got many people hanging on him as their meal ticket ... he used to be a sweet kid with a dependable entourage, but something changed this year ... dosnt seem to have the same caretakers as in past years ..... he'll have to work his way through ... he's a cute guy who's apparently under some bad influences ... is this the first year his father has become part of his entourage?

I think that is more momentary "hiccups" rather than being mentally weak. She seems like's always up for the challenge when she steps on a court.

+1, most regard her mental game as being one of her strongest assets. What we saw in the loss to Petko was Genie's tendency to go for it. She hits a pretty flat ball and this can result in UEs.

Petko also played an amazing tournament. I think Genie would have won the final against Jana for her first title.

Bouchard defeats Cepelova 7-6 (6), 6-3 to secure Canada a spot in World Group I for 2015. Confirms that if she had managed to beat Petkovic a couple weeks ago in the semis, she very well may have won the finals, but alas she is still in search for her first title.

I got to watch Genie destroy Sara Errani live at Indian Wells.
Her serve and forehand are great, but I think her mental stability will be her biggest asset. I don't see here choking and crumbling like many other female players.

Great point. Genie so far has displayed a great mental game not seen in many young players, could serve her well in the later rounds at majors.

I think she has a good shot at winning this WTA Portugal Open (280 pts) title. She needs to get over that no-title slump, don't want to end up as Kournikova

I bet she can hardly wait to get off the court. She is adrift.

And Kuznetsova played an inspired game.
