Diary of a Racketaholic

The bad news is that the updated timetable for hitting a tennis ball again is about three months from now. Still in a sling, light rehab starts next week.

The good news is that I just had an awesome smoothie.

3 months. Ugh. Positive is thats only like 3-4 weeks past what most TE sufferers have to wait out. Its also going to be brutally hot so at least you can focus on fitness in a few weeks and see what they let you do.

Thanks for that starbucks tip. Been abusing that one lately.

Never, ever thought I would turn into a racquetaholic till I tried the Pro Kennex 98 Redondo.

Not sure about it first up though. Left it in the bag for a month.

Tried it again and the strings had loosened up considerably allowing for more spin and grip.

Added a bit of lead, two over grips, changed the leather grip to a cushioned synthetic grip and it plays huge,so long as I'm prepared to swing out.

Feel is incredibly solid, yet at the same time has that buttery feel.

Feels like there is more weight behind the ball than any other frame I've tried by a big margin. Much more weighty/solid than my Six One 95

Tried the Redondo 93 today and honestly I don't rate it.

Feel is stiffer and has much less power, not to mention the sweet spot is much smaller.

Never going to change from frames again, ever.

Klem, btw id suggest going a grip size down on a 330.

Also, the redondo has such a sweet pj. I feel l like it would be a rather similar to the dunlop 200 in terms of difficulty. Never hit with one. Heard mixed things. May need gads for this. He is a black ace guy.

Ha! Love it.

Redondo - interesting stuff from mac33. I only tried the mid back in the day, and for me the Black Ace blew it out of the water. Preferred the feel, pop, ease of use. The Redondo Mid was extremely unforgiving, tiny sweet spot that punished if you didn't hit it, and the feel (and the paint job, actually) felt a little 'gummy' rather than the crispy butter feel of the Black Ace and Prestige mids, which both felt a cut above to me, but what you're saying about the MP is intriguing.

Mac did you ever try the Redondo MP or the black ace that was out in the last couple years (until recently)? What other frame were you coming from before?

Guys I somehow never did this, but it rules.

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/search.php?searchid=16636529&pp=25

My racquet history. I have bought sold everything in here, and only recently sent in a Speed MP and my unsold Steam to TW which funded my Tour G.

I am proud to say they gave me maximum value on both racquets.

Low point was selling an AG200 for $60. I am ashamed of that one.

Search yours. I am going to look at Gads because it's probably awesome.

3 months ain't so bad bro, as mentioned, you'll have plenty of time to work on cardio/conditioning. Then you should be in perfect position to experience melted butter in hand (Power Player™) Sorry, but I love that.

----Had a great session tonight with a 16x20 frame but it wasn't the v89, 'twas the Pure Control Tour '14. Modern crisp wafers dipped in margarine, not butter. Is it the sexy pick? Nope. But it does everything well.

Yeah why have we just discovered this? Its so cool to see exactly what you used with the date.

Jackb1 is so far the king of sticks by a margin of 4x over. I'm trying to think who can top that.

Fed Kennedy's opening post - a POG in 2008. Just a record store snobs fantasy list. Its so good I had to stop after a while. When he made a post stating he would trade his modern sticks for a 200 players model, I stood up and applauded.

Gads history is also incredibly laced with wonderful taste and buttery flex.

God bless you both.

That is cool. I checked Jacks too

Surprisingly, I have only 7 threads. + 11 bay transactions and ~6 TT returns in the past 6years. Not bad.

Oh wait, forgot local shop trades. Prolly up there as well.

well, then there are people like me who keep all the sticks they really enjoy playing with because we've realized there is no perfect stick. therefore, i don't have a long history of F/S threads, as my collection continues to multiply!

Man, I've gone through so many frames. Only slowed down the purchasing/selling, finally, ever since I got the pro stocks, though I still love demoing them all. "Just to see."

MD and I met when I sold him a pair of Barricade Vs I had up on the boards - too narrow, too blocky for me, but they led me to a superb hitting partner and a Racaholic partner in crime. I've turned him onto a bunch of sticks, he's done the same and introduced me to some of the golden classics in his sweet collection.

Klem, I dug the Pure Control Tour. A lot. Demo had awful string but I still dug it. More whipping to me than the last version; more crisp, too. Very direct response off the string bed that, although not as plush as my go-tos, I could appreciate that there were no surprises, could change direction of the ball so easily, crack.

Yeah it was so good. Most of us seem to stay in the classic side for the majority of our purchases.

I do love seeing my multiple attempts to keep an APD. I do like that racquet, but the feel and stiffness....

The woofers are what I did not try the Pure Control Tour as well. I am sure that stick is pretty sweet.

Basically woofer grommets feel like power pads. And I don't like power pads.

Leaving for two weeks for an overseas trip this Sunday. Three sticks will be joining me. The v89, the PCTour and the POG100.

Agreed about the woofers, strange feel, even when you get used to them. They take a long time to settle in and make some weird 'punchy' sounds on the way there. But with the right string and tension, once they settle, it's a pretty easy transition.

I blame Head for steering me towards the woofer-side of the road. Who would've thought I'd search elsewhere for a comfortable, 21mm straight beam, Mid+ racquet with 20 crosses?!

Might stop by London and paste missing posters of RossK allover the courts and pubs.

50-65 seems to be the norm for YYs, every one I've hit/owned has had the same.

I got the 'itch' big time for the TourG. Especially since I hit (again) an acquaintance's RDS002Ts Tuesday night. Battered and strung 100s of times, they felt awesome and I immediately thought of DelPo. But I digress.

Good thing TT can get me my 75/100 back. Might just have a TourG by Friday.
Klem, how does the 002 Tour compare to these newer Yonexes? Up, down, mere paintjobs?

JGads and MadDog, How do you feel the BC20 ages? With that horticultural layup, I would fear that these would flex out faster than graphite sticks. Also, does the recent Vantage/Angell divorce - creator of Bastcore now no longer involved in production of Bastcore - make you uneasy about future availability of these sticks?

I haven't hit anything in Yonexeses line-up that reminds me of the 002T's as of yet, although the descriptions of the TourG seem to be fitting nicely.

Will have to wait until I get back from the trip and investigate this matter further. They kept putting in that x-fullerene and 3d vector shafts, ruined most of the line-up imo.

corners, i've had my bc20s for almost 3 years and they've been used quite heavily. tbh, i think they feel the same as they did when i first got them. always have been super predictable from the baseline and still are. bummer paul angell is no longer involved with the BCs, but not too worried if and when these frames give ghost because the TC95/VT221s would be my next go to. love both the BC20s and TC95/VT221s!

Every time I hit it it feels like the old, worn baseball glove that I remember and love. Where the vantage divorce bums me out is that I think a simple update to this particular frame could make it into perfection, but I'm assuming there will be no update now. If I were the Vantage Angel(l) myself, all I would do for an update is make the thing slightly firmer to cure the two areas where the 'recoil' effect backfires a bit -- volleys, where the frame catches the ball a bit too much rather than simply blocking it, which can lead to lame duck volleys instead of simple firm put-aways; and serves, where a bit more firmness would help the consistency on flat heaters.

That being said, still one of the all-timers in my book and a stick the TT community would have gone nutso for, had it made it to TW and wider availability.

That old offer still stands, btw.

Ive read the Angell frames feel incredible and play like pro stocks. Never had the urge to test that out, but may be an option for somebody who is more adventurous than me.

My assumption is that the Tour G is an update to the VCORE Tour 97...are the two racquets significantly different? Just curious.

My opinion, and maybe its my string setup, who knows. But my opinion is that the 3 best feeling racquets that have been released in the past year if you like the classic feel and can hit hard are the new POG, The Tec 315 and the Tour G.

Im talking the wow feel where you love it initially and it continues to bring you back after months and months. The Tec does that, and the Tour G is giving me that same vibe right now.

Have to say I agree there myself. That rigid throat just isn't my bag.

Have a great trip. Send some emails in to Tony, get pinned.

Yeah the rigid throat is thankfully gone with the Tour G. It really crushed my elbow before.

So no worries there. I think the rigid throat was what allowed yonex to lower the SW and people would say it still had way more plow than they expected.

Only problem was that throat freaking hurt after a while.

Ha!

Waiter at my local spot several months back changed my life when he suggested that in addition to the tartar sauce, I request a side of their Cajun seasoning to go along with it. Nothing has been the same since.

And yesterday, I dominated.

Delighted to still be able to make such valuable contributions to the thread.

Today I walked directly past a tennis court for the first time since surgery. It was so clean, the net tape crisp and white like the day. Nobody was playing. I drooled a little and walked on.

Rehab begins tomorrow.

Dear Diary,

Rehab thus far consists only of getting my arm massaged, maneuvered and straightened out by someone else. That someone else, whom I was randomly placed with, looks not unlike a slightly older Eugenie Bouchard.

Thank you, tennis gods.
