I watched Godzilla, Days of Future Past and Edge of Tomorrow. First 2 were good but EoT was fantastic. Funny, great acting, everything. A must watch.

Edge of Tomorrow

Silly "Grounding Day" premise, a stretch even by sci-fi standards. Action sequences are a little frenetic so we never get much of a feel for why these creatures care about earth, nor how Cruise became a major knowing nothing about combat. See it as a last resort.

he explains it to the general. he only worked desk jobs and working on recruiting troops and doing logistics. You can get promoted pretty high doing only that in the army

how many Oscars has Tom Cruise won ? He is such a great actor, one of the best in history, I might add.

There is a reason why he hasn't won any Oscars... he is a fan favourite, THAT IS ALL...

How often have we heard you raving about something like this, dear Nostrademouse ;)
I take it this is a movie best avoided.

Tom Cruise acting in a movie is a good enough reason for me to avoid it. Wikipedia calls it a "military sci-fi" movie and military along with sci-fi is another compelling reason not to see it.

We've been subjected to enough dumb sci-fi movies where the government /army goes around killing aliens mindlessly/with glee.

this is kind of comment that I don't take you seriously. HERE is the comment from critics.

"Gripping, well-acted, funny, and clever, Edge of Tomorrow offers entertaining proof that Tom Cruise is still more than capable of shouldering the weight of a blockbuster action thriller".

AND one of the Highest Ratings ever.

and Tom Cruise deserves a Oscar for best Actor. he is one of the best actors in our generation and richly deserves an Oscar. He had been screwed by too many insiders

Cruise's go-to reaction is to flash his toothy grin, and he does it a few times in this film when it makes no sense to do so. He's a fair actor but hardly exceptional, and some of the best reviews I read about this film after seeing it (e.g. in The New Yorker) suggest that its biggest failing is Cruise's constricted emotional reactions to everything he goes through.

Tom Cruise is an exceptional actor. He's the kind of guy, I really don't want to like. Everythign about his personal life is scary to me in terms of his beliefs lol. But his resume is self-explanatory.

A Few Good Men
The Last Samurai
Jerry Mcguire

are the only three I'd need to refer to to have his vote as one of my favorites, nvm all of the MI movies, Vanilla Sky, Top Gun, Minority Report, Rain Man, Collateral or the hialrious Tropic Thunder. Need I go on?

Even if these aren't Oscar roles, the dude has been killing it for 20+ years.

Why did he not win a Oscar for at least one of these roles ?? is it just stupid holliwood politics ? did he get somebody powerful mad ? Tom Cruise himself is one of the Most powerful men of Holliwood so this is very confusing to me.

so this EDGE of Tomorrow as GOOD as critics and reviews say it is ??????? they are talking like this is the BEST movie of the summer and possibly the Year.

no, not really...

Cruise needs to realize that his days of just smiling at the camera for a memorable scene are over!

As powerful as he is, I wonder how well liked he is. Also, I wonder when his insane beliefs started being pervasive, or was he always a bit off. Interesting guy and quite an actor anyway. Still, what a looney.

Their beliefs aside, his behavior about the whole thing moreso is what I'm speaking of. I've read about them and it seems an incredibly corrupt organization (what religion isn't) but more cult like than others. Needing to contribute certain levels financially before realizing certain levels of spirituality to me seems like an alarm in ones head should be ringing.

And if he is right, I fear I am not wealthy enough to make it to the next level when the reckoning happens  Shame on me

Lets agree to disagree. I'd rather not derail the thread. But look on youtube, I've seen some clips that make me question that religion and certainly his own beliefs. FWIW, him being a leader in this organization certainly doesn't lend it more credibility in my mind.

Also, google "tom cruise is crazy" there is more than enough to keep one busy.

I want to like Edge of Tomorrow because I never go to the theater and need an excuse.

I'll check it out. I like Tom Cruise movies, he's not a great actor, but he picks good scripts usually.

And yes Scientology is insane and I feel sorry for people trapped in it.

I think we may have found one, though judging based on his location, he may very well have the last laugh

Yes,you should go on because you didn't include MAGNOLIA,which is arguably his best role ever and arguably the best film he's been in...

Sounds like a great drive-in dbl feature. Our drive-in has 22 Jump St and Edge of Tomorrow tonight.

I was about ten minutes into it when I got out the hamburger meat from the freezer to make spaghetti for dinner tonight.

“Clemenza’s Spaghetti Sauce”
Ingredients:

2 Table spoons of olive oil
2-4 cloves garlic, chopped
2 Large cans of chopped tomatoes.
Tomato paste.
3-4 Italian sausages (Grilled & sliced).
1 lb Of cooked meatballs.
1/4 Cup of sugar.
Red wine.
Method:

Heat the oil over medium heat in a large pot.
Add the garlic and cook for a few minutes (Don’t let the garlic burn).
Add the tomatoes and tomato paste.
Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring continuously so that a relatively smooth consistence is reached.

Add the sausages and meatballs and stir until the meat is coated.
Add a splash of red wine, then the sugar according to taste.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and let simmer for a minimum of 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve by ladling over cooked pasta.

I enjoyed last samurai. Was 47 ronin with Keanu? I thought it looked alright but didn't have high hopes. Ronin on the other hand is a brilliant heist movie and I would call a classic. Robert deniro, jean Reno, stellar skarsgard. Very good movie.

Yes. He wasn't even the main character.. on of his co-stars was.. But they put Reeves on the front cover so they can cheaply promote the film (albeit not knowing many people who like Reeves in general).

Never saw Ronin. Might check it out soon.

would recommend that.

Also, Keanu's only good role imo was point break, and that's more an over the top laughing at not with you kind of thing. I actually know a guy who has a tattoo on his calf with two meatball subs and it says "UTAH! GET ME TWO!" lol.
