Cincinnati - the real Slam

I was wrong last year, but this year I guarantee that Nadal is not winning it. I'll be Club Chopin's reputation on it!

Meanwhile Novak still losing much wanted sleep, from his previous results there... I am quite anxious for the in depth chapter on his endeavours at Cincinatti, in his future autobiography. Should be a good insight into the struggles of trying to win the best there is...

Becker was brought in for one single purpose...not to win RG (he never won a clay title anywhere!) but to hone Djok's game for The Real Slam, to be as sharp as Boom Boom in his annihilation of Wilander in '85 (6-4, 6-2) that interrupted Swedish domination of the sureshsian fields of Decoturf ('83-4, '86, '88 Wilander,
'87, '90 Edberg).

okay, I'll bite: WHY is Cincinnati considered (at least by TTers) "the real Slam"?

Haha, didn't know either, but boy those first pages are fun. Completely epic!

OP:
Today's semifinals feature the top 4 players. Unlike the last 2 "Slams". I contend that whoever wins here is the real #1 and the GOAT. I have a feeling it won't be the guy with the elegant strokes.

Fact is, Fed is up against 3 players who have all beaten him in the past, and who share the attribute of not having too much love for him. Quite different from a Roddick or Del Potro or Haas or Soderling who lose a match to him before the first serve is struck. This is his real test as a champion.

Yes, I saw the match (6-2, 7-5 vs. Murray, Chanwan). Federer's BH did not impress me a whole lot.

Tomorrow he will face real opposition. He better bring his A game or Nadal is gonna show him who is the real boss.

Fed did well today (beating Djoko 6-1, 7-5 in the final, Chanwan). But his result is still tainted by the fact that he did not face Nadal.

I still think Fed was leaving too many balls short in the middle of the court and his BH was mostly defensive. It worked against a rightie, but Nadal would eat them up.

This is djokovics year at cinciatti, he will carry the great form he was in during Toronto.

Mmm, much great form. Tsonga will be waiting for him though. Hopefully Djokovic can get more than 4 games this time, and make it more competitive for Jo. I heard he got a "lack of effort" warning in the second set, for being too casual with his play.

How have you been anyways?

There is nothing quite like the Real Slam.

Please all of you guys are wrong and suresh is the best ever.

Him talking about elegant strokes, didn't refer to Fed. But to Nadal. OP thinks Nadal has the most elegant strokes. Why did you think he was talking about Fed?

You have a point. He predicted it, and it came true.
