Very lanky dude with Stevie Johnson looking strokes.

jo11y is a very good player, but the whole point of this thread was people calling him out for being a good hitter but not a match player.

You have a lot more matchplay experience, are younger and have faced big hitters on match situations so I don't think you would lose.

That being said, Jo11y took the challenge and started playing matches. He lost a lot, as anyone would, but I believe the curve adjusted itself and he has now become a match player who wins more than before. He also won the bet that he was challenged to.

So it would be a fun match to watch, but I believe you are probably half level to one level above most of the better rec players who poast here, myself included.

pros - more power and spin.

cons - much more precise footwork and timing involved. this can be a problem against big hitters who hit with heavy top.

Well jolly claimed he was an open level 5.0 plus player. But he really wasnt. I still don't think he is unless he has been playing all this time. I'd imagine if he was truly an open level player he would have the match results to show and he would post it.

Do you have a quote where he said that exact phrase?

he said. "I am an open level player" I'm sure of it. Might of been one of his very first posts. I read it myself. And then people started to swoon. And then he started with how to play and his 20 k90s spec'd to 14 oz. How heavy he hits the ball. Lol. He wasn't close to open level back then. Maybe he is now. But 5 years ago no way in hell.

He was like 23 and 36 win loss in open tournaments for one year. Thats an open level player...

No he wasnt. The posts when he claimed this level he hasn't played any opens. And then lost to 4.0s playing in open. The year of the bet he didn't play 50 tournaments. He played just enough to win the bet. I'm talking the time this bet happened. And he wasn't a real open level back then. how do you find his results? Post them here for us to see. Maybe he is now.

Match win loss not tournament win loss. I haven't seen any recent results I just remember these discussions from back when he was around. He played 5.0 and got a computer ranking at 5.0 and he won more than 50% of his open matches across a years time. Thats an open player.

He played I believe under 10 tourneys in open for the bet. he played less than 10 matches. He won the bet yes that year. So he was getting better.
But I've yet to see a real open tourney match Stats that will convince me he is on that level. At least back then.
He was only 28 years old 4 years ago so he could very well be a 5.5 open player now.
I do not think he played 58 open matches in the year of the bet. That's a lot.

Exactly. He said he played opens. He never said 5.0 plus. That's my point. Its a huge difference to add that in, and you know that.

To me open level just means competitive at opens. I am not open level, maybe you are. I would like to be some day but we all know how that goes.

If jolly played 58 open matches in a year that means he went deep in every tournament. it means he is a real open level player. But that is not how I remember the bet thread. Someone find out the real stats for the bets and players jolly played. Let's rehash it again because we can have a definitive answer since time has passed and we can make a ttw ruling.

I am saying open level is higher than 5.0. This is my understanding. And what I base my ntrp understanding on. If your an open level player your not a 5.0. Isn't that what it means? Open level is like ton Lars 5 years ago.

Around me the open tournaments are where the 4.5s and club pros play. Heck the guy who won the city of cleveland championship is just a coach for a local d3 team( He is much better than me but not a 5.5 in my opinion)

Well I'm not sure then. As open tourneys are supposed to be when your too good for the regular ntrp levels.

We never have 4.5 or 5.0 draws. Just 3.0, 3.5 and open and even the 4.0s sometimes get rolled into the open. Thats a lot of fun let me tell you :)

No you are incorrect. Stop trying to act like the guy said he was a 5.0 player. That is my point. He never said that. You made up a quote that is not even real.

ANYONE can enter an open tournament. That is why it is called open. If you want to play the top players in your area and enjoy that (even if you lose) then why would you not play opens?

Jolly played a year or two of 5.0 then got bumped down to 4.5, which is probably about right, although he never actually played 4.5 league after that. I looked at his tournament results at the time and know enough about the local players to put him at a solid 4.5 from his tournament results.

Yep, exactly. Not everyone has a USTA rating or cares to play USTA leagues. The open tournaments are - show up, pay your cash and go against some great players.

Well yeah my 12 year old son can enter a adult open tournament but that doesn't mean he is on that level.
Wasn't the whole point for jolly is to prove he is a 5.0 plus level singles player? What is his record at 5.0 league singles?

This whole "I am an open level player" idea has to imply he is at least higher than 5.0. Or at very least 5.0 singles level. Why even say that? the intent is not to just tell people I am entering open tournaments. This was not a play on words like I entered open tourneys but rather I am an open level player. And all that it means.

It implies nothing except what you decided it implied. As seen above.

Let it go.

You know very well what it means when someone says they play "opens"
It means they are very very good tennis players. Not an ntrp hack.
And if I played someone that told me they were "open" level and I find out he is really a 4.5 I'd lol at his boasts.

Open is 5.5 and above, which is half an NTRP above my level at minimum.

Actually he definitely won matches at the open level I do remember that, which means he was at least somewhat competitive. In my opinion that means he is at the level.

Not if his wins were against 4.0s playing open tourneys as it seems people are saying.

I just explained what it meant right above. So when you tell me I know very well what it means, you clearly did not read my prior post.

I feel like all you do is get bored and want to instigate. Its all you ever seem to contribute anymore. Pretty disappointing. I mean I get it, but damn man...lol.

Dude open is open. It means anyone can enter. True or false?

I would rather play opens personally now and then. I don't mind losing to better players. Frees up my weekend and helps my game out.

This is pointless, I really dont care that much beyond saying that I hope he is still playing and having fun. Maybe in 3 years we will meet in the 35s :)

This is because I'm a real open level player. And jolly is a 4.5. Ha ha..... lulz....
For the record. I did play one open tourney. I made it to the semi. Where I got bagels from a college kid. So I guess I am a real open level player now.

That's true but I usually believe 5.5+ like Andy Chang and brian Su are the guys who win.
