Is he still playing opens? I used to love reading his stuff and he really did have some big strokes.
He makes 4.0's like yourself quiver in their boots.
He did on vimeo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYH31Sl6ptY See if this works
Very lanky dude with Stevie Johnson looking strokes.
the dude has the highest racquet take back i've ever seen. what's the pros and cons of such a high take back?
Well jolly claimed he was an open level 5.0 plus player. But he really wasnt. I still don't think he is unless he has been playing all this time. I'd imagine if he was truly an open level player he would have the match results to show and he would post it.
Do you have a quote where he said that exact phrase?
He was like 23 and 36 win loss in open tournaments for one year. Thats an open level player...
Match win loss not tournament win loss. I haven't seen any recent results I just remember these discussions from back when he was around. He played 5.0 and got a computer ranking at 5.0 and he won more than 50% of his open matches across a years time. Thats an open player.
he said. "I am an open level player" I'm sure of it. Might of been one of his very first posts. I read it myself. And then people started to swoon. And then he started with how to play and his 20 k90s spec'd to 14 oz. How heavy he hits the ball. Lol. He wasn't close to open level back then. Maybe he is now. But 5 years ago no way in hell.
Exactly. He said he played opens. He never said 5.0 plus. That's my point. Its a huge difference to add that in, and you know that.
Around me the open tournaments are where the 4.5s and club pros play. Heck the guy who won the city of cleveland championship is just a coach for a local d3 team( He is much better than me but not a 5.5 in my opinion)
I am saying open level is higher than 5.0. This is my understanding. And what I base my ntrp understanding on. If your an open level player your not a 5.0. Isn't that what it means? Open level is like ton Lars 5 years ago.

No you are incorrect. Stop trying to act like the guy said he was a 5.0 player. That is my point. He never said that.
ANYONE can enter an open tournament. That is why it is called open. If you want to play the top players in your area and enjoy that (even if you lose) then why would you not play opens?
It implies nothing except what you decided it implied. As seen above.
Let it go.

Actually he definitely won matches at the open level I do remember that, which means he was at least somewhat competitive. In my opinion that means he is at the level.
Open is 5.5 and above, which is half an NTRP above my level at minimum.
You know very well what it means when someone says they play "opens"
It means they are very very good tennis players. Not an ntrp hack.
And if I played someone that told me they were "open" level and I find out he is really a 4.5 I'd lol at his boasts.

I just explained what it meant right above. So when you tell me I know very well what it means, you clearly did not read my prior post.
I feel like all you do is get bored and want to instigate. Its all you ever seem to contribute anymore. Pretty disappointing. I mean I get it, but damn man...lol.
This is pointless, I really dont care that much beyond saying that I hope he is still playing and having fun. Maybe in 3 years we will meet in the 35s
Dude open is open. It means anyone can enter. True or false?
I would rather play opens personally now and then. I don't mind losing to better players. Frees up my weekend and helps my game out.
