Chico votes for ivanovic

Who else? Serena is not winning it - look at her slam performances lately, Sharapova will lose to Ana anyway, Halep is overrated, Genie is overweight and in terrible form, Kvitova too inconsistent to repeat W run, ...

The field is open and Ana is capable of winning ii, if she could keep it together mentally and not choke/selfdistract.

Aren't they on opposite sides of the draw? So,for that to happen,it can only be in the final. Ana hasn't made a grand slam final in 6 years, and even if she gets there, would she really beat Maria?

If they meet in the final, I think she will. Like she did in Cincy SF.

Nah,I like Maria if the chips are down in a grand slam final. Ana will choke 100% against Maria. However,I doubt Maria will get that far, anyway. She'd need a lot to go her way...

Halep was hovering around #50 in 2011 and 2012. Made it to the top 20 in 2013 and just shy or the top 10 by the end of 2013. This year she has risen to the #2 slot and is going deep at the slams (AO=QF, FO=F, Wimby=SF) which she has never done previously. She won at Doha, QF at Cincy, SF at IW, and Finalist at Madrid. Since the start of 2013 her W-L record is 88-28. She is ahead of Serena for the WTA Race this year.

Oddsmakers have Simona at #3 (after Serena and Maria); favored quite a bit above Bouchard, Radwanska, Azarenka, Ivanovic and Wozniacki. Can't believe that she'd be considered overrated by any definition.

Her chances of winning slams are overrated. She is the next generation Radwanska. Could make it to the final couple more times but will never win one.

She is still young (22) and only started going deep at the slams just this year. Prior to 2014, her best result at a slam was the 4th round at USO 2013. She performed very well in the FO final. Was surprised that she did not get past Bouchard in the SF at Wimby this year. I believe that she would have performed much better in the W final than Bouchard did.

Don't see any reason why she won't win at least one major in the next 2 years. Even if she doesn't, making it to a couple more finals would still be a quite an accomplishment.

That's an irrational thought process. You're using "Slam performances lately" to condemn Serena while failing to mention Ivanovic's lack of success in those tournaments, not only recently but ever since she won her only major. Theoretically she's much more unlikely to win any tournament than Serena. Secondly, you're expecting Ivanovic to avoid doing what she always does - choking, getting distracted, not keeping it together mentally for two matches in succession - more than you're expecting Serena to do what she very often does: win the US Open.

Having said this, of course Ana could win the US Open. It wouldn't be the surprise of the century. But your thought process is just a shot in the dark.

Your pro-Serbian racism is absurd. All year long you pick Ivanovic (and Djokovic) to win everything, and you are wrong most of the time. Ivanovic is not a strong player who can mow down the field--which is supported by the fact she was only able to eek out one major in her career.

Her best USO result was a quarterfinal in 2012, and we know the how and why that crashed and burned: she faced a superior player named Serena Williams--a clinical, powerful defeat of Ivanovic repeated this summer.

Bouchard is overweight? Prove that. No--you cannot.

Both Halep (2-1 H2H over Ivanovic, including Madrid '14) and Bouchard (2-0 H2H over Ivanovic, including the 2014 AO) are on the rise. I know that pains you, as it just adds more threats to the field.

You are bitter--hating anyone who is not Serbian, hence your attacks on players who have victories (particularly recent victories) over Ivanovic.

There are no sure things about who wins the USO, but your motives are clear--and not based on rational observation.

Considering Ana's slam results this year are about the same as Serena's (but Serena has atleast proven it many times in the past unlike Ana who did once), your line of logic for discounting Serena is comical. Atleast if you are going to use Serena's slam results this year to say she has "no chance", then pick someone with much better slam results this year like Sharapova, Bouchard, and Halep to win.

Count out Serena at your own peril. You and others probably said the same thing before Wimbledon 2012, and Serena simply proceeded to win 7 of the next 9 biggest tournaments. Her current position is actually what she loves, she has doubers and isn't the overwhelming favorite anymore. Serena likes to be the underdog.

BTW Ana's win over Maria last week was her first non clay win over Maria in forever. Maria is still the hands down favorite should they play, outside of maybe clay, and I am the furthest thing from a Maria fan and like Ana (and most other players) over twice as much. Serena who you say has no chance spanked Ana silly in the next round of that same event.

It's Chico, what do you expect?

I mean, he says Genie is overweight. Now I've heard it all! Say what you want about Genie - a lot of the criticisms would be completely justified - but to say she's overweight is...well...something Chico would say.

Re: Ivanovic, she's having a great summer and is in great form, but you never get the feeling she's actually going to go all the way and win something. She has the ability to win but she has to be a lot stronger mentally; strong when she's down and confident and when she's up.

I always wonder why Ivanovic speaks so quickly in her interviews. Her accent is still really strong after all these years, and when she speaks quickly it's almost impossible to understand.

She probably took a class from Aga Radwanska. Love both of them but can't understand a word of what they say.

Doi making TONS Of new fans, including myself. She is absolutely hanging tough with Vika.

Go DOI!!!!

She even had a set point at 5-4! Like her reaction after that sweet dropshot she hit a few min ago. Really hope Doi can do the impossible and win this!

CC Bellis. 6-1 first set against Cibulkova, great performance by her. Now down a break in the second.

Doi takes the first set against Azarenka 7-6(3) after a DF on SP. Vika not looking good at all, might actually lose this.

Imagine her ranking if she loses R1 here? She's #17 in the world ATM and is defending final points from last year. Definitely out of top 20, maybe out of top 30 too.

EDIT: If Vika loses this match today, she'll be at the most #30 in the world

15 yr old CiCi Bellis is giving Cibulkova all she can handle. She's down a break in the 2nd set but won the 1st set 6-1.

ESPN showed the last game of the 2nd set. Court 6 isn't a TV court so they had someone with a handheld camera shooting. She reminds me a bit of Giorgi, going after every ball.

edit: Looks like they're going to show the entire 3rd set too.
