Discho has some of the best string for very open pattern and doesn't want to sell it all around the world!What a shame...! :p
meanwhile, your last "best" string for 100t ESP seems to be genesis Typhoon 16L. Do you find it quite as durable as thickier 15L strings?
Last time I tried a 16L string on this racquet(tour bite 16L) it snapped after 2 hours.
Could I ask you Mikerel what is your NTRP rate? Just to understand, more or less, how strong do you hit the ball and so how much your strings suffer from your shots ;)

My NTRP rating is in my signature. I've toyed with then idea of buying the thicker version of Typhoon but I have not gotten around to it yet.

I am to 8 hrs and cyclone tour is still playing well. Right now I have it strung at 50 for mains and 48 for crosses. Should I go 50 and 50 next time or stay at 50/48? Thanks

In my testa, with those special patterns with 16 crosses, I have tried -3 lbs on crosses as well as same tension on both mains and crosses.
While on traditional pattern racquet I prefer 2-3lbs less on crosses(to help snap back) I found better performance and predictability on those open pattern racquets when using same tension. The reason is that with 16 crosses,the crosses are still "badly" supporting the mains,allowing the mains to move more freely. If you use differential tension,the crosses would support even less the mains,letting the mains moving too much and making them dead faster. The difference is not so big,but still noticeable to me. Try 50/50 next time,you could see a little increase in overall durability and in shot predictability.

Thanks for the thourough answer. I had thought about it the same way but then had doubts since I thought I could be denying the benefit of the open pattern by increasing tension. I will give it a shot I think I can definetly use a bit more control/durability.

Mike do you think pro hurr tour is superior to alu power ? it is very odd but sometimes I think pro hurr tour has more power. but sometimes not. sometimes I feel like I have better spin with PHT and sometimes I feel like I have better control with alu power. I am confused.

Are you mostly just rallying when you go out on court? The reason I ask is that I rallied for about an hour last night and broke 2 sets of Typhoon 1.25. Match play it lasts quite a bit longer.

I tried out the Prince Tour 100T ESP with the discho poly strings (52lbs). This thing is a blast. Only 4hrs in but I can tell I'll be staying with this racket for a long time. I'll try the Poly Prince XC strings next and decide which I like more. Thank you for the product reviews Mikeler!

I've been hitting with Cyclone Tour again the last few days. Definitely a top notch poly for me. Tier One Firewire just came in the mail yesterday so I hope to string that one up soon.

Firewire was one of the strings that tore the felt off the ball and left bald patches...plus the green fuzz floating in the air. I don't normally rip the fuzz off the ball except this with this string and BHB7/Prince Tour XS.

Playability - T1>XS>BHB7
Comfort - BHB7 (before string went dead)>T1>XS
Spin - T1>BHB7/XS (draw)

Power T1>BHB7 (played XS in a different/more powerful racquet than my test of the other two)


I'm guessing you got 16g. I played with 17 and it lasted fairly long for me (not a string breaker). The 18 just didn't last long and would probably last very short for your game. I wonder how this string would play in a hybrid.

I already cut my sets for the mains and crosses for Firewire 16. My first thought was this is going to be a bear doing the crosses.

Mikeler could you tell me differences between discho iontec and volkl cyclone tour?I mean, I never break iontec on shank so I avoided that disadvantage.on your reviews you report "intoxicating spin" on iontec, and "lots of spin" on cyclone tour. Both are reported as medium powered Polys. Both have little or no string movement.
I have changed my forehand on the last month going to full western. With semi western what I wanted was: spin,spin,and more spin.now I produce so much spin that I want soon and power,in order to have good depth.I got some More depth going down with tension,but now I'd like to but a reel of cyclone tour if it gives me more power,more spin or more tension maintenance( iontec last me 4 hours then start moving and goes dead to sixth hour).
So,looking also at prices(volkl cost me twice of discho iontec) I'd like to know what are the advantages of cyclone tour over discho iontec,beside of resisting to shanks.;-)

I'm using Cyclone Tour again at the moment and I forgot about the good durability. Many believe that when strings start moving they are "dead". Maybe that's true but I don't notice a drop off in playability usually until the 15-20 hour mark. I can't get that long from polys in the 16x16 patterns but more dense patterns I sometimes could with hybrids.

I strung up Firewire 1.30 tonight. Wow is that stuff sharp. The crosses were not as difficult as I thought they would be. I took an old ball and bounced it off the strings for a minute. You can visibly see pieces of the ball nap missing where the strings impacted it!

Without reading your entire string review, any quick rec for soft poly with good tension maintenance ?

A 30 year old 4.0 woman asking for recommendations in a Volkl Organix 4 - she hated full bed of BHB and thought full bed of Nrg2 was too mushy - I didn't recommend either of those to her.

I recommended she try Pacific Tough Gut / Technibre HDX Tour crosses. She isn't a string breaker.

How is the durability of Cyclone Tour vs Cyclone? I play with Cyclone 17g/GOSM and it usually last me 6-7 hours until the cross wears off and the main starts moving.

Also any recommendation for the cross with Cyclone Tour? I can't go full poly due to previous problem my elbow

I can't help much with tension maintenance since the spin frames are great at snapping strings. I think Solinco Tour Bite Soft might be worth a shot but I like your idea of gut/multi. I'd try that out first.

I tried Cyclone once and it only lasted 4 hours for me. Cyclone Tour typically goes 10-12 hours before I break it. My favorite softer cross string is Genesis Thunder Blast white. It just seems to complement poly mains really well.

I have tried both. I think the T1 was kinder to my arm. Hard to say though because of different tension used in a different racquet.

48 in a low 60 RA versus 45 in a high 60 RA.

Thanks Mike, just orderd a couple of Cyclone Tour to try it out. Gonna hybrid w Gosen OG Micro first. Will definitely try your recommendation of Thunder Blast white too

The first few hits with Firewire, I thought it was not going to work for my arm. After that, my arm was fine. The spin is probably the best of any string I've ever used. I had a good first outing with it for 2 sets and then switched to Cyclone Tour for another set. I was just having a good day on court overall.

Mikeler was cool enough to give me a pack of Cyclone Tour, so I plan to hybrid it up and hit with it sometime this week hopefully. Sounds like a great string for me since I prefer rather low powered frames.

Let me answer that when I finish my Tier One Firewire test. I think their stringforum rating of #1 for spin seems about right.

Tier One Firewire 1.30

This one is a sharp poly and has a moderate degree of difficulty to install.

Tension it is strung: 60# on a lockout
Your regular string set up: Genesis Typhoon 1.26
String pattern of your racquet: 16 x 16 (Prince Tour 100T ESP)
Power (or lack there of): Medium powered
Feel: About average for a poly
Tension maintenance: It broke before I could get a 2nd measurement.
Price: $8.95/set
Overall comments and feedback: See below

General: Another string I really like that appears to be prone to shanks. :(

Serve/Return of Serve: I served very well with this string. Second serves has obnoxious spin on them. It seemed like I was able to put a lot of returns in play and deep.

Strokes: Spin, spin and more spin. I also liked hitting slice backhands with these strings.

Volleys: Pretty nice for power volleys.

Touch shots: Drop shots were all over the place. Perhaps if I had more time to dial into the string I would have liked it better on these shots.

Softness: This felt like one of the firmer polys to me especially at first but no arm problems to report.

Tension: 60# played great.

Durability: I broke it on a shank after 3 sets of singles. It was in the bottom corner of the frame which is unusual since I typically hit high on the string bed.

Movement: Very little string movement at least at the 60# of tension. Thanks goodness I did not have to move the strings much since they are so sharp.

Color: There was some slight bleeding of the red ink on the balls but it was barely noticeable.

Conclusion: This is one of the best polys I've tried to date. Unfortunately, I'm not a clean ball striker and anything prone to shanks just doesn't work for me.

Did you adjust your stringer clamps? I'm trying out Firewire 18g and noticed the string is squished everywhere the clamps touched it. I forgot to adjust my clamps so they were still set for 16g syngut I normally string.

So far I've gotten 4 sets of doubles and a few hundred practice serves from this string in my 18x20 racket. Love it so far, strung full bed at 54/51, no arm problems.

I typically string 16g strings, so my clamps are set for that size string. The Tour 100T ESP has one turn inside the racket where the string does not come through as a perfect loop. There is a natural kink inside the tubing. That is where the Iontec kept having problems as well.

Thanks for the review. I take it that it sits higher in your book compared to the Prince XS. It did for me as well.

I think you should also try the Durafluxx. That string even in a dense bed as a Redondo 98 gave me the best kickers.

I'd be concerned about having the same issues with that string but perhaps one day I will.

I forgot how long Cyclone Tour lasts for me. Just got a set of Typhoon 1.30 in the mail to see how it fares head to head. They are so close in my book that I might go back to Cyclone Tour if the Typhoon 1.30 is not much better than the 1.26 I've been using recently for durability.
