Nostradamus

Bionic Poster
That was my first thought. Yet although it may be very improbable, it cannot be ruled out Nostradamus. One theory is that one could enter a black hole and re-emerge at a distant location or another universe by going through a region inside the black hole known as a "space-time singularity."

LOL, Reality is any ship CANNOT enter a black hole without being torn to pieces. ONLY way to do that is envelop it in a Anti-gravity field. Only way to do that is to understand gravity, and what generates it and what it is made of and where it originates from. We have answers to NONE of these. and Neither did the Movie.........lol

Reason why we can't find where gravity comes from is probably because it really doesn't come from anywhere.....It is woven into the Fabric of Time and Space that we exist in. and it is very possible that gravity transcends our space and time.................meaning it is multi dimentional and extends beyond time and space.

Gravity maybe a force that existed before our universe Began.........This is very possible.

The Hundred Foot Journey - (2014) with Om Puri and other Indian actors. Helen Mirren. Location: France.

Time-pass, feel-good movie about an Indian family that sets up a restaurant in France.

Nostril, the movie accounted for that by coining the term "gentle singularity" - not sure if it is a scientific term

The answer is that the experts are not certain, which isn't surprising with a topic this complex. With a movie that is that far out into the future, when there are so many possible permutations as to our understanding of the universe and space travel, we'll see some creative license. I suppose they could have made a more conventional science documentary type of movie, yet they chose differently.

If you look up "gentler singularity", it is explained this way:

Traditionally this means negotiating a region of infinite density exerting destructive, tide-like distortions on any "extended object" such as a spaceship, molecule, or anything that is not truly point-like. Physicists now suspect this picture is incomplete and that a second and potentially milder type of singularity might exist.

Known as a "Cauchy horizon singularity," it would impart only finite tidal distortions on extended objects.

The kinder, gentler singularity should only develop when a regular stream of matter or energy falls into the hole.

Conceivably, a spaceship entering through the weak sector could travel unscathed to another part of space-time. If the perturbations due to non-compact sources are large, however, Burko shows that the singularity ends up being strong, and destructive, everywhere in the black hole.

Whether black hole singularities in our universe are strong-only or hybrid in nature depends on incompletely known cosmological parameters (such as the expansion rate of the universe and the nature of dark energy).

Several factors may ultimately rule out the possibility of hyperspace travel. They include: (1) the possibility that "weak" sectors may still be much too hazardous for travel; (2) overwhelming effects on the black hole from actual non-compact sources and (3) a working theory of quantum gravity, which may reveal other factors that rule out hyperspace travel. But for now, Burko says, the possibilities are open. (Burko, Physical Review Letters, 28 March 2003)

Murphy's Romance (1985) - Sally Fields, James Garner.

Romance between a widower and a divorcee. Funny, light flick.

p.s. oh, also saw The Quiet Earth, and Meteor (1979),
and 30 minutes of Vampire Academy (2014). Lousy.

LMAO, for a mo I thought there was a scifi movie named Nostril, and i was about to google for it, before i realized you were talking to Nosty.

I watched The Crow with Brandon Lee.

Awesome film made in 1994 when I was 6 :( I feel old.

Interstellar's main story was entertaining, but the science was distractingly dumb. From global warming to intergalactic travel, it embraced don't-think-about-this-too-much convenience at every moment where a plot point required it.

I expect this movie to clean up at the Oscars.

Yeah,I mean why couldn't they have searched for a solution ON EARTH? Man has lived on this planet for thousands of years and has always found a way. The more I read and think about this movie, the worse it seems, whereas the truly great movies get better the more you think about them.

I expect it will win several technical awards, like gravity, but nothing else. Chastain may get nominated for supporting actress...

Constantine (2005) - supernatural flick with Keanu Reaves and Rachel Weisz. Gavin Rossdale, too. Silly movie. God vs Devil. Keanu is The One to save everyone.

Indians include Ramkumar Ramanathan and Jeevan Nedunzherian

None of the channels were showing it yesterday.

Funny enough I actually liked Constantine. I am not a big reaves fan at all but his over the top acting kind of worked for the character. seems like all the other actors were pushing the limits channeling their inner Shatner as well. I also think Tilda swinton is gorgeous and like her in almost everything I have seen. shes a great actress. Peter Storemare is probably my favorite devil portrayal since viggo mortensen in the prophecy. He was great as satan.

silly yes, fun and entertaining....for me it was. I wish they would have made a sequel.

The most interesting things about Interstellar for me were the visuals and simulations of deep space travel. Has there ever been a movie that explores the very nature of blacks holes and the possibility of time travel by accessing them? This is not your average movie set here on earth, with a simple plot. I agree that they used some environmental issues to try and weave a somewhat chaotic plot line, yet that doesn't take away the many huge positives of the movie in my opinion. Some of the sequences are very special and in the same league as this classic space sequence.

The Remains of the Day (1993) - Touching film about a butler in the 1930's or so. A Merchant Ivory production. Anthony Hopkins lost the Best Actor to Hanks (Philadelphia). Emma Thompson lost Best Actress to Holly Hunter (The Piano). The other nominations all lost to Schindler's List.

Get Low (2009) - Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Bill Murray. Duvall plays a hermit who has remained secluded for about 40 years. Sad, nice flick.

Plunder Road (1957) - Gene Raymond. Interesting gold heist movie.

These are all really fine films. I really enjoyed the first two, and my neighbor just mentioned plunder rd. Thanks, sentinel.

Last movie I saw was "dumb and dumber, to". Really nice theater. Excellent sound system and The popcorn was fresh. The movie had a few funny moments, but mostly it is a prequel to Idiocracy....and a less than able sequel to the first dumb and dumber from twenty yrs ago. Oh and jim carrey is bloody awful. Insidiously so.

Edit:
I saw it with one of my kids and his friends. They all love me, however they are at the age To be embarrassed i was in the theatre with them. not more than i was embarrassed to sit there laughing at weak, self-referential gag comedy.

Slice BH,

If you, or your friend, like Plunder Road -- the old heist movies, then I recommend Melville's (French) movies. These include (pardon the spellings) Le Samourai, Le Doulos (I think aka The Finger), Le Deuxieme Souffle, Bob Le Flambeur, and possibly Le Cercle Rouge.

You can see this page for the exact names and links to the summaries.

Of course, i trust you have seen Rififi.

What I love about these old heist movies is that they do not employ fancy, futuristic gizmos/gimmicks like the new Ocean's movies and other thrillers do. They are very, very basic.

I think you may also enjoy "Leon Morin, Priest".

Just saw “Birdman”. In some ways it was the best movie I’ve seen, yet, this year, in other ways it was kind of silly. You have to give it extra points, however, for taking chances and not being an “easy” film—two people walked out during the showing.

The cinematography was excellent, though it was not a “cinematic” film. It was a “talky”, dialogue-driven, actor-friendly film. The dialogue rang true- if a character said something in a sappy, “Hallmark” sort a way- he was called on it by the other character. This could have been played out as more realistic drama type film (like Nebraska, perhaps), but it wasn’t. It was not so much realistic, as sur-realistic- as if it were a collaboration between Graham Chapman, David Lynch and Eugene O’neill.

It was a very tightly worked out film- in fact, it played out like clockwork- to the point that there was nothing really surprising about the “twists and turns”- or even the ending.

All-in-all, however, it was an entertaining film with pockets of greatness- but (in my opinion) a bit less than the sum of its parts.

Strange that you can solve the greatest mysteries and puzzles such as the Mystery of Roger's Back, When Mirka Heckled Stan, etc, but fail to understand a mystery movie.

I have a suspicion that there is nothing to "understand" in that movie. I was fooled by the fact that every critic gave a 5 star rating. Ben Affleck was very good but the woman was terrible. The entire story seemed to have no theme.

^^ think of it as a cartoon, an overblown parody. As the heroine says to her husband in the shower when she's washing off the blood, "honey, that's marriage."

watched The Grudge. it was OK. Not as good for me as the hype though. i thought it was a little boring honestly. i didnt really find it scary but maybe its because so many movies copy this and the Ring over the years.

I am going to try paranormal activity tonight and see what all the fuss is about.

Yeah a cartoon which was 2.5 hours long. I can't believe that the book was incredibly popular when it came out in 2012.

The last movie I saw was The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I. The movie was awesome, Jennifer as usual did an awesome job of playing Katniss Everdeen. The whole cast was able to take it to the next level and I am so excited for the finale next year.

Interstellar - the whole movie sucked. Overwhelmed at first by the Zimmer score, the dialogue was atrocious and the plot just meandered. I know Nolan wanted to make a "2001", but he wasn't even in the same galaxy.

AMEN!

horribly slow and ultimately very mediocre!

its a shame when the musical score directs the movie more than the dialogue or acting. "Contact" was far better and not nearly as much as a waste of time...

Are we counting movies seen in cinemas only or everything?

Cinemas only - very limited choice, my last one:

Fury - Ok, until the last battle which was ridiculous. Ruined the movie.
