Nadal making H1ST0RY at RG?

He is finished. This year it is impossible to win something big. Next year ı think he will try but he wont have a huge success again. Rafa is looking more and more like burn out player both physically and mentally. He cant even fight even he wants to do.

There is a difference between "could" and being the favorite.
He "could" win an event even if he had lost all other events in 1st round. It wouldn't be likely but as long as he'd stepped on the court with a racket in his hand, nobody could say that he couldn't.
Favorite is another matter. To me, he has to- at least- make Rome final to be considered one of the favorites for this RG. His game has been too problematic this year for me to rank him among favorites if he doesn't have a convincing run in Rome.
He has a good draw though, so I think that, realistically, he has a good chance of reaching final (same type of draw as Madrid)

how would you rate his chances to win RG? Do you think its compulsory to win Rome in order to get back to confidence?
About 30-35 %. Djoko at 45-50 % and the field around 20 %.

I don't think he needs to win Rome, but it wouldn't hurt. He could (read: properly will) land in Fed's half and somebody else could take Djoko out (and Fognini and Murray).

The funniest thing of all will be if Nadal loses early and Djokovic will still not win the FO.

The Murray win at Madrid over Rafa definitely has made things more interesting.

Imagine if Nishikori wins Rome beating Novak and Rafa.

Yes getting to the final at a Masters1000 is truly being finished. Please sedate the hate

It's #Rafael's time of the tennis season. It's really all about him. Has been for 10 years. Why stop now?

Maybe because this year, the clay season has been about Djokovic, Murray and Nishikori instead. Still waiting for Rafa to join the club but he will have to play better and I'm not sure how it's going to happen. His clay stats (serve and return) haven't budged a iota between M-C and now, which means he is not improving and his return stats are too damn low, even lower than Nishi's and his serve stats are not high enough to compensate.
I don't care for how long clay has been all about him, this year, I'm officially worried.

The good thing about you is that you stick around no matter how many times Nadal loses or how much abuse you receive from your cockiness before Nadal matches. We can't say the same for most of Nadal's other coward fans.

and you are obviously hoping for that to happen

Funny thing is, cc0 isn't even a hardcore Nadal fan so I find it strange that she'd prefer him to win it for a 10th time(zzzzzzzzzz) rather than see another player lifting up the trophy.

I'm not sure if that's actually a compliment but thanks anyway.

Yes, it is a compliment.

For all of your delusional comments about Nadal or Federer at least you are interested in other tennis players and the sport itself which is more than you can say for a lot of Nadal's groupies on this forum.

I'm a fan of Novak too and at least for me, if Nadal loses, I can still hope Novak will win and vice versa.
As long as it's not Fed ;)

Are you saying that such respected Nadal fans like octobrina, clayqueen and vernonbc don't care about the sport cc0?!

If someone prepare himself only for one GS, not winning any other tournament, that is nowhere near great. That is lame.
Nadal can win 6 more RG, and he will still be below RF with this kind of game and schedule.

Djokovic2011, sometimes you act a bit like a woman. Always unhappy with something, always complaining or nit-picking.

Let the other posters be :)

How is he finished? He just played in Madrid final and he is still in Top 5. He can be easily in RG semis and he has two more matches after that to win it and you know he is capable of doing it.

He's #7, and could drop a little more before RG.

His former pigeons are now beating him regularly. He just got destroyed by someone who'd never even won a clay tournament until a week beforehand.

With the exception of a few clay tournaments, since January 2014 he's been an upset regularly waiting to happen.

Dropping in the seedings means tougher draws -- and regularly meeting players capable of trouncing him in the 16s or earlier.

Perhaps due to #biological_passport? Thought I can show you the proper use of the hash tag.
You mean the Biological Passport #myth you've been spreading around this forum like diarrhea in Mexico? You've yet to provide proof of any wrong doing, which means you are just like all the other vermin vituperators whose sole purpose is to diminish and slander a generational champions accomplishments. You are no fan of #tennis.

Winning RG this year is good for Nadal to regain confidence, not really for adding one more to already immortal record.

one thing is for sure

If nadal wins RG, it would be the most tasty win for him for a long time on those courts.. it would be like be back from the dead, when no one believes, that must give it a special flavour no? :)

Angie I feel your anger and I can tell you are not trolling for a change. Whether BP is an effective deterrent to EPO use or a myth, we will need to wait till after RG to see. Fact is you don't know it is a myth.

The Spanish football team was untouchable but after BP was adopted in FIFA they got creamed in the group level in 2014. This lead me to believe it is not just for show.

Tennis will survive like baseball, because of true fans like me. We care about a sport because it is first and foremost fair competition. Otherwise we will be playing video games or see a movie.

Greatness is about succeeding in the biggest stages...and federer has been consistent but his greatness hasnt increased in the last 5 years... bar the wimbledon title in 2012..

This is false. There are degrees to everything. Federer's title at Shanghai last year isn't nearly as significant as Wimbledon, but it did add a shade to his greatness. Just like his title in Istanbul did, to an even lesser extent. You can't completely dismiss any title or achievement in Tennis.

Of course, there is also his epic Wimbledon final in 2014.

While Nadal is still very much a relevant player, he is not as imposing as he used to be and that's a fact. His results on clay are even well below par for his standards so far. All the signs are alarming at this stage for Rafa, who is ageing and probably will not be a force he once was even on clay. If he doesn't at least reach the final in Rome, I think that's a serious indication his time at the throne of FO championship may just be over. We'll see, though. Strange things happen in sports. Rafa may conjure up a few brilliant performances again. You never know.

I don't think anyone is capable of beating Nadal at Roland Garros if they played it right now.
So Rome is irrelevant, just as it was in 2008 when Ferrero beat him 7-5 6-1 at Rome R32 (and Nadal had won all 4 of their clay meetings before that), and just as it was last year when Djokovic beat him at Rome.
Roland Garros give zero confidence to Djokovic and every confidence to Nadal.
Everybody is doomed at Roland Garros, except for Nadal.

You mean the Biological Passport #myth ...

Angie, please tell us then why the Biological passport was implemented? Unless we assume it was entirely a pointless exercise there must have been reasons, no? I'd say the anti-doping authorities know more about such things then us folks here.

Someone or something must have prompted this complicated and I'm sure very expensive procedure. While we can't say who or what there's plenty of circumstantial evidence that Rafa has been on some serious chemical help throughout his career. Too much smoke for there not to be at least a small amount of fire. And of course he is/was not the only one.

You want proof? Maybe you can call the Spanish courts and ask them to release those blood samples they've been hoarding and protecting like Mexican gold. Never thought Mexico can be such a great source for similes...

Anyone who discounts the role of PEDs in pro sports is either supremely naive or really doesn't follow sports. Ooops, I just described some of our top posters on these hallowed forums, apologies
