John Inverdale fired from Wimbledon

Great, they've sacked somebody I disliked and replaced them with somebody I dislike even more.

They need to oust Rusedski and Castle...

They should let somebody like Tracy Austin pesent today at Wimbledon, fantastic to listen to, knows her tennis, not annoying in the slightest, and I think she has the qualities to present as well be an analyst.

The Bartoli comments should have gotten him sacked.

It's weird; I'm like the least PC guy out there with a frat boyish sense of humor, but I can't stand things against group or person that seem just plain mean-spirited.

Am I the only one who liked Inverdale? And i can swear I heard him commentating yesterday, so he's not completely fired.

It was a mistake. He wasn't fired.

Claire Balding replaced him on Today at Wimbledon, to glorious early reviews.

Yes I watched the program with Balding yesterday. And everytime I thought "finally, we're gonna see some tennis", they went back to the chatting around the table.

Bring back Inverdale. The guy knows his tennis. Federer fan too.

She knows **** all about tennis. Why is she presenting it?

The BBC is mandated to have Claire present every sports-related programming. She knows fug all about pretty much everything she presents but I can't fault her ability to enthused, although this programmes "casual chat studio" style leaves a bit to be desired for people actually wanting a full highlight of the day's play and not just 3 matches.

BBC's new Wimbledon highlights show mauled by critics and viewers

From the article ".. marshalled by a panicky looking Clare Balding."

Yes-saw a bit of the first show & switched off fast-I doubt Inverdale would have agreed to lower himself to that level of inanity. It is the typical broadcasters trying to be hip/down wiv da kids & dumbing everything down. I could tell it was going to be less of a tennis highlights show & more a Big Brother's Bit On The Side style fan interaction show with actual tennis being an afterthought.

Why Balding? She has been the darling of UK tv for several years now & like others this happened with-Carol Vorderman in the 1990's & actress Sheridan Smith in the film/tv acting world currently, they end up being overexposed as they are on telly all the time it seems & people get fatigued by them eventually.

Balding also has a gimmicky general sports interview show, really she is a very good presenter-but only at doing serious stuff. Horse racing is the one thing she is an expert in as her family have long been heavily involved & that is where she made her name originally. I think JV must be thanking his lucky stars he isn't hosting this drivel.

Yes, as I posted at the time it was sensational reporting-if anything he actually got promoted. He is a very good sports anchor & has been for 20 odd years.

Clare Balding.

Female? Check. Lesbian? Check. She fills the BBCs diversity quota. If she was black and disabled she'd be on every BBC channel 24/7.

She's not a bad presenter, but she knows bugger all about tennis. She should stick to horse racing.

Being black, I don't know whether to take offence or laugh.

Wimbledon 2day is really awful. It's not Clare Balding necessarily, it's the whole concept of audience hype and an upbeat tone at the end of a Wimbledon day, which is just bad. This contrasts with Today at Wimbledon in the past, when the tone would be a nice wind down after a day of play. The BBC have really ballsed up on this one, something that they make a habit of these days.

Claire Balding is the worst presenter on TV period. Inverdale was bad but having that cow on the TV is equally as bad. BBC is ticking the PR box hiring her in the first place.

Wimbledon 2day! Even the title is cringeworthy.

I think Balding must be on some kind of all-inclusive contract at the BBC. And she just agrees to front every show going - the BBC probably view it as a great way to save money since they don't have to pay out loads of individual contracts to other presenters.

How about just do away with the highlights show early & carry on showing tennis live? Then have a basic no frills highlights package on later as they do with the Snooker?

What happened?

He was pushing her about equal pay for women & whether they should play 5 sets, she didn't really answer exactly what he had asked so he said she was copping out which ruffled her somewhat, she says she would like to see the men playing 3 sets at at least the quarters onwards & she finds 5 sets boring quite often.

He's just gone up a little bit in my estimation. Equal pay for less work is a bad joke. The ridiculous heat rule situation makes it even worse. The women's tour fought hard for financial equality... I don't see any of them complaining that the heat rule essentially says they can't handle the conditions as well as men and may need a break to recover halfway through their matches.

Inverdale is correct is this case. Best of 5 sets is what makes the majors different, and bigger. I'm really surprised that the women don't do best of 5 sets in the majors.

I heard that too, Inverdale really is a dick at times. He couldn't make it any more obvious that he doesn't believe in equal prize money if he shouted it with a megaphone.

That's not being a dick. That's a valid opinion. Not everyone has to think the same like you.

What's he doing?

His Twitter behaviour is kinda weird, he calls out a fair few people who criticise his commentary. I think he must search his own name... Awful commentator.

I've turned it off now, but he was prancing around like a primadonna, arguing with the umpire about a serve that was so clearly out, then got shirty when the umpire said it was too late to challenge. I honestly think he thinks he's one of the tennising greats, when in reality he's probably incredibly lucky to get invited to play.

He used to coach my other half's boss, but he got sacked.
