Shaneno,

I should be picking mine up this weekend! I did get to hit with it this past week and it was really nice, definitely a different feel compared to my Tour F but I still like the control I get with this frame. I had the AI 98 but felt something was missing and whatever that was, it was found in the DR 98.

Are you still going to keep your Tour G? I am probably going to have a Tour G at some point again just because it was a nice feeling stick.

Man i know how you feel!

The tour G has low power/Control
The Ezone AI had power/spin

It was so hard to choose, but i went with the Tour G.
I haven't gotten a chance to try the EZone DR 98 yet! :( tomorrow i hope. i haven't gotten a chance to choose between the two! will i keep my Tour G. can't say yet. but if i sell it. would you like one?

I got mine a few days ago, it was a really easy transition from the AI to the DR. So far so good. It pretty much does all the things the AI did well, just a little bit better.

The last 2 years I have been reading the official topic of ai and nobody has ever mentioned that both ai's lack of plow through. Without having tried the new DR's and just the specs i have a feeling that the changes will be minimal.

Which DR are your talking about? 98, 100, lite? since you chosen the pure aero, i'm guessing you're referring to eh DR 100?
Doesn't really matter but probably dr98. However in all honesty I have no preference yet. I only tried an ai98 for 5 mins about 4 months ago. Oh, and I currently have apd 2013 but am considering switching.

Well comparing to a Babolat it 100% less stiff and more marnuverble.Comparing with the aero pro drive to dr 98. I strung my dr 98 at 60 tension feel great. When I strung 60 on ADP it felt more stiff somehow. Less feel. I had to string it lower to get more feel and more flex. Which made it to powerful for my game. With the Dr it's got it all with high or low tension! Feel all around

Aeropro Drive felt more stiff strung at 60?! No way! I find it a bit funny that you seem surprised that stringing a racquet at 60lbs would make it feel more stiff and reduce the feel. Unless it's a joke in the like of "how could a babolat racquet feel any stiffer?" Regardless, I don't think stringing Babolats with poly at high tension has ever been a good idea for a rec player.

Somebody posted side by side photos of AI and DR in the ezone dr thread also.

Can't decide whether to go with the DR 98 or 100. Forehand and serve better with the 98, but backhand and volley better with the 100. Decisions decisions.

I will say that the DR 98 is a little more round in the head shape compared to my Tour F 97. I was comparing the DR to the AI and they looked identical when placing them side by side. I didn't take any pictures because the shop got quite busy before my racquet was done.

I might grab a Tour G to complete my little Yonex collection. The wife has a DR Lite on the way this week too!

Hey Achapa I'm curious to hear how you like the new DR compared to your Tour F. Please let us know after you've had a hit!

It definitely has a bit more pop to it as well as a more plush feeling frame overall. I still think the Tour F 97 has the Yonex feel, especially due to the thinner beam size but the string pattern definitely makes the sweet spot feel a bit smaller. You have to know, the Tour F is 16x21 vs the DR at 16x19. I feel that this is the one of the reasons the DR feels more plush but don't knock the Tour F due to the tighter pattern, just gives you more control, hence the slightly stiffer feel. I'd really think the Tour F with a 16x19 would be killer with the aerofin tech, which does work. I haven't done the Sony sensor but did have a radar device that measured about a 3-4% jump in service speed with my Tour F 310 against a Tour G 310.

I had a chance last week to compare the two a little but I'll have more time this week to really put the two through the paces. I think with all the hype, this frame may stay in the bag but it's too soon to tell. Shaneno hasn't been able to get the Tour G 330 out just yet so I may be in the same boat. We shall see!

Great looking EVERYTHING! :D loving it! hows those shoes? feeling so soft your feet on clouds? :D

Still hard for me to think which is better man! how about you?

I really do enjoy the shoes, may get the navy/red combo as well as the clay version if I can find them. I think they are among the best feeling out there, there is plenty cushioning in the fore foot and heel which provides a nice transition.

I think this week will provide me with which racquet will come out on top. I definitely want to consider giving the Tour G another go and try as hard as I can to find a Regna. I really like the Tour F 97 for my OHBH and hitting slice, volleys and serves with it. My FH struggles a little bit because the 16x21 pattern doesn't give me enough bite I feel but with the DR 98, the 16x19 should provide me with more spin and pocketing. Time will tell!

How was your first go?

Really good! i hit one with the DR 98 and i was like damn! this feels amazing on my backhand. Forehand gave me alot of spin man. plus i love the weight in the head more.

My tour G Feel good too. but i'm trying to customize it so it doesn't go over the 13.3 oz range :(

Between both. Their even right now for me. so hard to tell right now

I'm really thinking of giving those shoes a try tho

Is anyone hitting the yonex Vcore tour 97 on here? Picked one up cheap on ****, just waiting for delivery. Currently using APD 2013. Started playing again this year after a 19 year break! Used to hit the yonex rd7. I'm 36 now!

Do you guys think the dr 98 is made for flat hitters or spin junkiesv

achapa8807

I would good for both, but i have to say spin guy.

I'd have to agree but for someone like me, who doesn't hit a ton of spin, it helps generate more.

Btw Shaneno,
This is an improvement over the AI, it just feels a bit more stable and more plush if that's even possible!?

OHHHHH SO SEXY! still need to customize tho

Are those code red strings? What have you guys strung the DR with and what tensions? As stated in the other thread I have ALU power spin at 60lbs and it's way too stiff (dumb mistake by me, but never hit with ALU before).

Nah. It's volkl cyclone 17 guage. And it's a soft poly. I love it. It's at 60 tension and it's playing great.

Your mistake was using Lux at 60 pounds. Lux is was better at lower tension since it's such a stiff string. It's okay. It's your first time. I did the same.

For those who hit with both the Ai and Dr, how dampened are the two frames when compared to the other?

when i tried both of these frames. i found it's not as dampened as having a dampener on them... I still need a dampener, but even without i think i'd still love the AI and DR. Compared to other frames like Wilson prostaff RF97, 97, 95, 95S.. Babolat PDR.... YONEX F93, 93, G97 (H Ver.) and other brands. THE AI OR DR is more dampened Then those other Frames.

Compare to volkl frames tho, witch have the dampener on the throat. It's not the same. i think the volkl frame more dampen to a point you don't need a dampener

After hitting for another hour and a half (so about 3 hours total over 2 days) the ALU lost some tension and the racquet felt MUCH softer and was a lot more comfortable. My placement was right on, the slice drop shot was deadly, and it was easy to keep the ball in play while taking huge cuts. The stability is so nice and at net the volleys were hit crisply and placed where I wanted even against some pace. It has good plow through against tough shots from all areas of the court. I'm really liking it and can't wait to get a softer string in. It's still a little jarring on off center hits but I'm hoping that will improve as well. Very glad with my purchase.

This is to hard to decided which is better :(

After hitting with it a while longer now, I can tell that the Tour F is a little firmer than the DR. If the Tour F had the gel like the DR has, I think it would be a tie in the feel department. As much as I like the DR, I keep coming back to the Tour F 97 - could just be that I've been using it and became very comfortable with it in a matter of minutes. The Tour F 97 does have the Yonex feel but with the string pattern so tight, it makes it feel a little stiffer or harder to pocket the ball. With PTP in my DR, it is very soft and smooth... I think I am going to get both my 97s strung up with PTP at 50 and see what that does.

Professional
I found the F 97 to be a little too under powered with the tight string pattern. It had excellent control but i had to really work for the kill shots. The DR has easy access to power and has more "pop" and ball pocketing.

achapa8807

Semi-Pro
I think you're on the right track there Mike. I don't think it is as under powered as some may say but it definitely doesn't have as much as the DR 98. I'd like to see what I can do with it being strung with PTP at 50! I've always played more control oriented racquets and that could be why I gravitate back to the Tour F 97. The DR is a solid stick though.. Decisions, decisions!
