Adidas Tennis Energy Boost

TW expects to have them later this week. Looking forward to their review. Too bad weather is going to be pretty wet so probably won't be able to test them out much this month.

Video review is up. Biggest Pro: comfort. Biggest Con: some toe-jamming. And also pricing: $160. wowzers.

Durability non-existent: that's the message from the video.

I guess I'll have to pass on this and wait for Barricade Full Boost, if there will ever be one, or just stick to Barricade Boost.

There are string breakers and there are also shoe-breakers.

If you are a shoe-breaker, maybe these shoes are not for you.
Get the most durable shoes you can find.

These shoes offers extreme comfort and this is what I need.
I am not looking for the most durable shoes.
I am looking for the most comfortable shoes and I think these shoes are worth a try.

I just hope they fit my wide (2E/4E) feet.

Yeah, I have wide feet too and adidas have seemingly been too narrow for me. I'm hoping these have a little wider fit than in previous adidas shoes I've tried.

Was interested in these, until a couple of the playtesters complained about toe jamming. Looks like I may be holding out for the Nike Ultra Fly.

I used to have 'toe jamming'.
But ever since I went up to 1 size longer (usually an inch), toe jamming is history.

I am size 9.5-10 2E/4E.
When I try on a shoe, I make sure the shoe is longer by 1 inch at least.

These shoes also have an extra eyelet at the back which is good for locking my heels in place to prevent it from sliding forward.
At any rate, if I experience ''toe jamming' I can always return it within a month because of the 'comfort' warranty.

The version of the shoe in white on the TW website looks great. It is an all white shoe with a little bit of black trim. The picture of the shoe on competitor sites (and shown above) shows a black shoe with white and green trim - so which is it?

Did TW get a special version?

Did TW post the wrong picture?

TW always posts stock photos at first. Id wait to reserve judgement until they take their own pics of what they receive.

Why is there no mention of this shoes anywhere on Adidas website or anywhere else on the internet other than TW?

Didn't see these coming. I figured with the Barricades and low-cost variants, AdiZeros, and UberSonics, they had plenty of options in their quiver. Seems like they might be muddying the waters...and I'm an Adidas fan!

Adidas succeeded in making this the most expensive tennis shoe at TW. Not only that, it has durability issues, so you're likely to buy shoes again in the near future. Also, the toe jamming thing is back? I suppose the 1 month comfort guarantee will address that if it happens, but still... I hope this shoe helps to bring the price of the Barricade Boost shoes down. I can probably use a shoe with a narrower fit, more durability, and better support.

yea but it has 1 month Comfort guarantee,,,,what shoes can claim that ?

It's nothing like that......it's a pretty darn solid shoe........don't forget when we test we wear them like every day to play.......sometimes hours and hours on court 7 days a week.

I believe you and my post was a bit tongue in cheek, so to say.

What is your impression from the durability of the shoe?

EDIT: Saw your comment. Thanks!

NOTHING like the Vapors......the vapors are so light and flexible and truly feel like a running shoe - these have much more support and just more SOLID.

The comfort level is the only thing that is "like" the vapors

Well, the ONE thing I like about the Vapors is how I feel "connected" to the ground, which, imo, is a bit missing with the Barricades, for example (I am not going to stop wearing any tennis shoe that I have, unless there is a real issue with fit, though. I am saying it just to note that to me the difference is there).

Where would you say this shoe fits in the Adidas model range when it comes to stability and also "lowness" to the ground?

The comfort level on par with Vapors?

Hmmm. I expected more based on experience with running shoes with Boost, but I guess it is good enough.

When I set the boost along side a pair of vapor 9.5s they are as low........huge difference from the barricades. I always hated the barricades huge heel and how high off the court you felt.......

This is good news.

Underfoot the sole and heel is more comfortable than the vapors......the vapors win with the upper and toe area (duh with all that mesh). But the Energy Boost have much better support with only a slight increase of weight.

This is also very good news. Especially for someone who keeps playing "on his toes".

Also the Energy boost liner is one piece - the tongue is integrated into a sock liner......some folks may not like it.....I personally love it as it keeps the tongue from shifting around

It is OK, especially if it doesn't get in the way with the ventilation and/or fit issues at the mid foot.

Overall sounds something that I will have to try at some point.

Again, thanks for the useful comments!

@gavna - Given your review, seems like this is going to be a toss up between this and the Vapor.

I like the idea of better cushioning than Vapor but if the fit of the Vapor is better, it's gonna be close. I guess I will find out once I get a chance to try these out. With a 30 day comfort guarantee, I guess you can't lose esp given the $175 price range.

I guess it's no different than the Adidas Ultra Boost running shoes but still, it's quite a big jump in cost.

Tough call between these and the barricade boost. Like you, no toe jamming for me in the barricade boost.
Barricade Boost is definitely better, IMO. Same stability, durability and (no) toe jamming performance, though. 2015 and 2015 boost are excellent. Do not care about the Energy Boost after reading reviews. 2016/2016 boost should be great!

yea there are some issues with toe jamming as TW review stated....but you have to try it and see. Energy Boost is much better shoes,,it is very light for heavy cushion shoe and stable..

Tried on a pair today. Still too narrow for my feet. I have worn Vapor 9 (best fit), 9.5 (good fit) and now the LBs (good fit and more comfort) and was hoping the Energy Boosts would be my next shoe for tennis but alas it won't be. I even went two sizes up and by then the shoes were not a proper fit for my feet. Disappointed but not too surprised since Adidas shoes have always been narrow for me.

So these are more narrow than Vapor Tour 9.5s in the toe box? For me, the Vapor Tour 9.5s are barely wide enough so that might be a concern when I give them a shot. At least with the 1 month comfort guarantee, you can return them.

Yes, for me they were much narrower throughout. The shoe's upper is much stiffer than I expected too. Nice styling throughout but fit and comfort are my first priorities.

Does anyone know if the upper is stiffer than the Boost Barricade? I don't think anyone will be able to make a shoe fit better than the Vapor Tours.

Wow! really disappointed in the fit. Looks are killer (white/black) however this shoe is narrower than the barricade boost, especially in the mid to forefoot area. They fit nothing like the Vapor 9.5 so if that is your comparison shoe, the energy boost fits nothing like it.

I have a wide foot. and I thought the barricade Boost had enough room in mid to forefoot area. but haven't tried the energy boost yet. if it that narrow, it would not be a good fit for my wide feet

You are probably the first person who thinks the Energy Boost fits more narrow than the vapor? Across the board (including myself) find the Boost WIDER - STIFFER - feels more heavy duty.

Every persons feet are different........and the lacing system on the vapors is much more flexible and adaptive.

I'm glad I'm the exception and not the rule. No one is more disappointed than I am that I cannot wear this incredible new shoe. Believe me, I wanted to get this shoe. I wanted to like... No, love it. But my feet were telling me otherwise. I can EASILY slip into a pair of Vapors no problem with width. Even the Lunar Ballistecs. But for whatever reason, the Energy Boosts just weren't a good fit even when I tried to go up two sizes. It's crazy I know. But it's the truth.

I'm with you. I loved the look of the shoe and was disapointed in the fit. I compared the fit (only) to the Baricade Boost and Vapors and it was much tighter. Maybe bad quality control and another pair may fit differently. I don' have wide feet and have never had an issue like this .

Apparently gavna loves them so who are we to say they don' fit, lol.

I just got a pair. So far the Vapors are more comfortable out of the box. The TEB (Tennis Energy Boost) I find run more narrow.

Mine came in yesterday. No doubt they are a slick looking shoe. My initial impressions when putting them on and lacing them up: heel to midsole felt like one shoe, forefoot to toe felt like another shoe. I am skeptical that there is "full-length boost." I thought the fit was fine. The ball of my foot, for some reason, felt like I was in a Propulse 2. I have these, the 2016 Boost Barricade and 2015 Ubersonics (and I wore a pair of Vapors last spring) - all in 10 1/2. The Tennis Energy Boost toebox is my least favorite. Not sure if it's the shape or just the stiffness of the upper material. I played pretty aggressively today for about an hour and did not experience any toe jamming. The support and traction were there for tracking down balls out wide, going open stance, stretching for that squash shot, etc. Definitely lighter than the Barricades, heavier than the Ubersonics. Lower to the ground than the Barricades, not as low as the Ubersonics. Obviously more comfortable than the Ubers, but they didn't have that "locked in" feel for me like the Ubersonics (or Vapors). I do love the Boost tech in adidas' running and tennis shoes, though. You really do feel a return while in stride. So I guess I'm a little underwhelmed. Maybe I had my expectations up too high. Maybe I'll change my tune after being in them a full week.

Yeah, so the catalog reads "full-length boost" and upon release it's "full-length midsole boost." For me, having the boost under the ball of my foot would have truly been "taking comfort to an all new level." They started with the heel in the Barricades. Now their up to the midsole. Maybe adidas is inching their way closer to covering the whole tennis shoe.

You might want to double-check the definition of "midsole."

It's great to hear reviews coming in from players definitely adding quite a bit to this discussion. Do you guys feel the Boost is in the forefoot and are they similar to Boost running shoes?

@racquet - I didn't try the Propulse 2s but did have the Propulse 3s so are they similar in forefoot cushioning? I love the Propulse 3s but forefoot cushioning was almost non existence.

I don't think anyone will ever be able to beat the Vapors on fit as their lacing system is just so well designed. However, I can probably trade a bit of this if the forefoot has boost cushioning as I find the Vapors sufficient in forefoot cushioning but after a few hours on the court, my feet tend to feel a bit sore.

Nike Zoom Air beats Lunarlon in cushioning and durability but after a couple months, I find that the cushion is not as plush or responsive.

Sorry: "midsole" as it pertains to the middle layer of the shoe, then yes - it is all boost. But I'm willing to wager that the midsole doesn't extend from heel to toe, and that is what I would consider "full-length boost." I dare not compare tennis shoes to running shoes, but the forefoot in my adidas Ultra Boost feels a lot different.

parasailing: from what I remember of the Propulse 2, it had next to no forefoot cushion. There's "low to the ground feel," and then there's "able to feel the ground." I agree with you, though - Vapors are the gold standard in certain areas.

I might try Superfeet insoles in my Ubersonics. If that doesn't raise me too high up in the shoe, I'll make a nice little cross section of the TEB.

that is what I thought. BOOST is more of hard cushioning and need time to break in. It doesn't feel like a Pillow out of the box... and if it is narrow, it is bad news for people with wide forefoot

@racquet - Okay then we in agreement, Propulse 2s and 3s do not have any forefoot cushion. I am kinda disappointed that the Tennis Energy Boost doesn't have Boost forefoot cushioning like the running shoes. Having added Boost midsole cushion definitely an improved over the Barricade Boost but they need to put entire Boost into the front of the shoes. I mean we do stay on our toes so wonder why they didn't add that in the forefoot.

For my Vapors, I did add an orthotic insole and that helps add a bit more cushion and support. I guess I am going to have to do this with the Tennis Energy Booost.

Boost doesn't need any break in as far as I know. I have the running shoes and they feel plush from the get go.

Boost in my running shoes seems to me "squishy" or "squidgy" or exactly the same thing! I mean perhaps Adidas found that Boost in the forefoot area was unstable?

Boost is definitely not hard cushioning that requires break in time.....
