    I experienced a 125-130mph serve

I’ve hit with a former pro who has been clocked at around 118 on PlaySight. Certainly a big serve to return but second serves as you mentioned sets his apart. Lots of spin and height and difficult to deal with. And hits his spots consistently. As an aside I watched Raonic play a match some...

    Pat the Dog, or not....

There’s not that much tech talk around here anymore anyway. It’s just threads on who would beat who and proving your tennis worth.

    Pat the Dog, or not....

I think it is a natural move if you keep certain things passive during the unit turn. Once the initial move of pointing the racquet tip to the sky is complete, you turn the shoulders/torso without initiating the arms any further. So the arms/upper body turn as a single unit. From there once the...

I’m not too bothered by it. Roddick/Murray do something similar. Theres some other more pressing issues I need to correct.

    What went wrong here?

There are public courts that are free to use. I know of three near me that I have used, each with 2 courts. I posted a serve vid in another thread, that was on a free court.

Obsession about serve mechanics: racket moving on edge

Might be hard for me to get on a court to capture it with similar shadows as I have limited time getting on a court in general. I do notice I sometimes pronate after contact and other times I don’t. Not sure what the reason is for that.

Obsession about serve mechanics: racket moving on edge

I guess if Fed, Raonic and others open up more, there’s no functional advantage to keeping it on edge. Maybe it’s just an aesthetic for the most part. They all end up in the correct position leading into the ball. With the back, I never feel any strain on it.

Obsession about serve mechanics: racket moving on edge

Nice. I think mine is relatively on edge, maybe not, dunno, but feel like I’m making some inroads to my serve either way.

Obsession about serve mechanics: racket moving on edge

Have you been able to incorporate it into your full serves @Curious ?

Obsession about serve mechanics: racket moving on edge

I wondered whether I served on edge as you described. I took somebody vid and seems I do this.

isnt this a weird explanation of the kick serve by Philippousis?

MP was a pro player and knows how to serve. I’d say what he described in the vid is what he feels he is doing when he is performing a kick serve. Whether that’s what realistically happens doesn’t really matter. We can’t see ourselves performing a stroke so all we have is our feel and whatever...
