A few years ago at the USO, Jack Sock and Andy Murray both requested a night match- Sock had a genuine reason as he had a doubles match the day before. In the end Murray got the night match meanwhile Sock crumbled.

Yes but having a roof is not a requirement for any tournament, meaning this "rule" is not actually a rule but some arbritary decision that is made; Wimbledon managed fine for 120 odd years without a roof.
