I don't think match-to-match performances have been anything to go off on for the last 10 years in terms of Fed's performance. Lately it seems like it's not a matter of "how" Federer gets to the final that determines his finals play, but "who" he beat to get there.
Good point; Fed and Novak on the other hand seem to match up fairly evenly. all this to say, feel like Novak hasn't looked great all year outside the AO though whereas Fed seems to be getting better as the year goes on. Combined with the confidence he's feeling, I think Fed has a great chance.
Honestly? I think Fed coild do this in four. I have a 2012-vibe about Wimbledon this year and Novak did not look super great against RBA or even someone like Hurkacz this tourny. Not to mention Fed is probably really, really fired up and riding high on confidence right now; he did just beat his...
Yessss! Great match overall, but man Fed gave Rafa way too many second chance rallies in the last game. Novak I feel has been way more solid mentally than Rafa lately, so I wouldn't put it past him to relish those opportunities if Fed gives it to him.
I'm super surprised NK not going for more underhanded serves. It would make Nadal more skeptical about his return position and keep him on edge. Right now Nadal can reasonably assume NK will do a normal overhead serve imo
It would be entertaining if not for the fact that NK is a grown-ass 24 -YEAR OLD MAN. He might have been able to get away with the worst of his antics as a teenager and as a 20/21 year old, when there was some prospect of him winning big titles and maturing, but he quickly approaching middle-age...
The 18 year old that started the year ranked 109 and now knocking on the top 20's door after three finals is considered "struggling"?
You must be expecting him to win slams by now too, since Chang did it at 17
You know who else played their first title-winning tourny at 18? Richard Gasquet.
And guess what poor loser won their title at age 19? Roger Federer. Yikes. You would almost think that these age comparisons are meaningless.
I'm a bit bummed that Felix couldn't pull it off. But three finals in...
I know it's a cliche, but horrible officiating all series going both ways. Some egregious calls made this game too (I'm talking Kawhi charge, counsins goaltending foul and Cook/Lowry collision). Not to mention the why-the-hell-not time extension after the foul on Kawhi at the end of the game
