Is your son playing in the Clev State UTR tournament in January?
Okay. We're hoping for a strong showing for our son.
He's wanting to gain is third star pretty badly. Was up to 386 before Xmas, but didn't fare well in two tourneys since. Has slipped to 411. This weekend is his last chance to get in the top 400 and get 3 stars.
Good luck to him with the 3rd star. Has your son played Zonals? That's the easiest way to get national points-not many at Regionals unless players go deep. My point of last post was for your son not to be intimidated if he draws a Florida player; his toughest matches may be vs other Southerners. Playing a Floridian in Florida-now that is a fight every time.
I resorted to reading the instructions...or reading the info on the tournament link at USTA. This tournament is seeded according to the National Seeding List, and the other are above him on that list. It sure is confusing with so many lists.
The Fl kids that attend Regionals are not the best as Fl does not give sectional points for out of state regionals. Fl gets a quota of 12 at the Regs, and when they are held in the South, sometimes they do not even fill up their slots. National seeding is misleading as many good players play up; they may have a lot of sectional points in the upper age, but few national points in the older age.
My son is playing this weekend in Mobile AL at the Closed USTA Regional Tournament: President's Weekend - Region 4: Caribbean, Florida, Southern. He was confused as to why kids lower than him in the Southern rankings were seeded and he's not.
Best of luck!
Yours is a bit older, right?
Mine is a 11th grader so he is in middle of recruiting-met with some coaches in fall, invited (unofficial) to visit some in spring.
I really enjoy and appreciate your informative posts.
Thanks. We tennis parents have to help each other as junior tennis is not cheap and the college scholarship opportunities for males are limited so we have to be smart with both our resources of time and money. What year is your player?
