Interesting happenings with NorCal 40+ 4.5+ Nationals representative

I’m just talking about the best league level that is available to most players - there’s some added respectability in joining the highest league available to you. There aren’t any 5.5 or open USTA teams that I’m aware of anywhere near me. The couple 5.5s I know have basically been forced out of...

500 M/W at Tulsa for All American preQ Sat/Sun with 50% chance of rain Sat pm-some thoughts

whatever, he led his team to the NCAA team championship with a dominant run at #2, beating the former NCAA singles champ in the process, and now has won a major singles tourney - but you’re right, everyone should just be hitting a winner off all his serves, why don’t any of these opposing...

Interesting happenings with NorCal 40+ 4.5+ Nationals representative

I mostly just laugh to myself anytime someone brags about winning USTA nationals, assuming they didn’t do it at the open / 5.0+ level. It’s basically the equivalent of a swimmer bragging: “I won the 18+ 50 y freestyle event for people who rated themselves as taking over 2 minutes per 50 y”...

Interesting happenings with NorCal 40+ 4.5+ Nationals representative

Everyone involved (on both sides) needs to reevaluate their lives. As does anyone cheating / sandbagging their way to a USTA league title at any level other than the highest available to them.

A bunch more points just came off the board, live ranking #220 130 points to defend by Aussie Open, if she fails to defend those she’ll be lower than #350 This is spiraling

500 M/W at Tulsa for All American preQ Sat/Sun with 50% chance of rain Sat pm-some thoughts

Riffice is coming along just fine, huge strides over the course of the season last year Took out wolf in NCAAs and just lost a close final of another major singles tourney In juniors his legs and consistency were so superior he didn’t have to win matches the way he has to at this level, but...

500 M/W at Tulsa for All American preQ Sat/Sun with 50% chance of rain Sat pm-some thoughts

bring it on, feddie UF has the 1-2 punch of Crawford-Riffice, and I would argue that UF's #8 or #9 could just as easily be the best #6 in the country this year hardest part of being the UF coach this year is deciding who of the following doesn't play much singles: Crawford Riffice Andrade...

    Line calling issue on clay

I’m with you, if you’re resorting to these tactics more often than a couple times a year, you’re the problem not your opponents and you’ve shifted the fair play line to your own benefit not to your own protection If you find 1-5% of your competitive tennis opponents to be outrageously different...

    Line calling issue on clay

I would again say there’s plenty you can do about it if they won’t show you the correct mark - can say nothing so no referee comes over and take a point right back - or in drastic instances such as someone making a flagrant bad call on a break point, can suddenly disagree on the score of that...

    Line calling issue on clay

If space between mark and line (in other words, clay that’s not part of the mark) - out If no space, so overlapping with the line or the mark is tangential with the edge of the line - in Not super complicated, the tangential one is where there are the most arguments between players and USTA...

    Line calling issue on clay

If you think everyone has to pick the same battles in life, you're the confused one. If my team and I are enjoying the competition of USTA sectionals or something of the sort, and run into someone trying to hook their way past us, that's a battle worth fighting to me. I'd enjoy another weekend...

    Line calling issue on clay

Sure, they might not correct that call, but they’ll know why I called their second serve out later in the TB when it was several inches in then circled some random mark 95ish% of matches I have no line call disputes, but the other 5% I don’t let myself get taken advantage of I think it’s...

    Line calling issue on clay

I’ll also reply to this fair comment - depends on the level you’re playing / type of shot - have you ever seen the chair umpire at an ATP event on clay decide the ball didn’t leave a mark? Sorry, Roger, call stands, your serve simply didn’t leave a mark If I’m playing 4.5-5.0 level tennis and I...

    Line calling issue on clay

However, in the same paragraph it says “A player should take a careful second look at any point-ending placement that is close to a line on a clay court.” Somewhat contradictory statements, so not surprised this is often a point of controversy on clay. FWIW, my two cents: if I hit a shot on a...

I Stand By Bouchard: Leader of the Genie Army, Ready to Rise and Conquer the World!

Don’t think it would be unreasonable for her to self-rate as a 4.5 at this point “Dear USTA, I have not won a match since February. I rarely keep three balls in a row in the court, have little to no footwork, and have no plan B if smacking one flat backhand down the line doesn’t automatically...
