Exercises for my son 11 years tennis junior

Whatever course you decide, take it slowly to gauge the effects. You don't want to solve one problem [weaker than peers] and introduce another [excessive working out leading to injury or burnout]. For grip strength, how about squeezing a tennis ball? Fitness tools: I'm partial to resistance...

Does wearing long pants help the knees at all?

Does heating up the affected area help at all? From a purely subjective standpoint, heating up the area feels good like wearing sweats or a compression sleeve. But I don't know if that translates to extra injury protection.

    Appeals and Questions

My thoughts on doubles as a singles player

I have watched college tennis. Now you go watch rec 3.5 tennis, which is where the fat part of the distribution lies and a more relevant level to this board. A lot of the people playing solely doubles do so because they don't feel like they can handle the physicality of singles. If you...

My thoughts on doubles as a singles player

I'll buy that. I think that doubles has more variables [having to manage a partner, having to deal with an opponent net man, signals, formations, switching, etc] which exponentially raises the opportunities for floundering.

I can only claim minor credit. Garrison Keillor on "A Prairie Home Companion" would list "names" like this. He came up with Sara Tonin and Sara Bellum but I came up with the rest. Some other examples from "Car Talk": Meteorologist Claudia Overnight Norwegian Snowboard Instructor Soren de...

My thoughts on doubles as a singles player

...if excess weight and lack of stamina are the issues. But there are other reason why people don't do well in singles. Also, it's obviously not trivial to develop competent doubles skills as evidenced by the many who haven't developed them and show no indication that they are trying. If I...

My thoughts on doubles as a singles player

This logic cuts both ways, though: ie "You can return slowly through the middle and still be a very good singles player. Good luck with that in doubles." It all depends on which particular skill you want to emphasize. The two games have different skillsets [not mutually exclusive, of...
