    Calling all topspin one-handers

I have no idea what grip either of them uses.

    Calling all topspin one-handers

To get the grip I use for forehands, I can pick the racket up off the ground and then rotate it a little more western than that. That is the same grip I use for forehands and backhands, and I hit with the face that faces the ground when I hold it out for both as well. That is the only grip that...

    Calling all topspin one-handers

I am the same. Western grip on forehand and don't change for one-handed backhands. I rarely frame shots on my backhand side. More so on my forehand.

What is the effective tension when you string hybrids?

I don't believe there is such a thing as "effective tension" when it comes to stringing rackets. No matter what the string setup, if you string the mains at 60 and the crosses at 55, it will not play the same as if you strung it all at 57.5. The dynamics of the ball and strings at impact just...

    Calling all topspin one-handers

I think if you're mis-hitting as much as hitting the frame, the size of the racket head is not the biggest problem. Your mechanics/grip choice may not be appropriate. I personally find the PS85 to be the best racket for one-handed backhands flat out.

    Returning KICK Serves

I would probably jump for a ball 6ft high, seeing as it would be over my head and I find it very uncomfortable and difficult to hit a ball that high very well.

    Returning KICK Serves

The trade-off of which you speak is entirely true for any particular person (assuming they swing with a given velocity at impact), but it's not always relevant. If the other guy is as much better as it sounds he may have been, then he was likely hitting with substantially more spin AND speed...

    Quick Forehand Question

Did you not see my link that specifically shows Federer's racket face slightly closed AT contact? Those were just pictures I found on the first page or two of a Google images search. I'm sure there are plenty of other better pictures that show a noticeably closed racket face at contact. If you...

    Quick Forehand Question

Here's a link with a picture of Agassi's forehand at contact. It appears to be pretty well perpendicular to the court surface. http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Reviews/TIRAD/TIRad_Agassi.GIF Here's a couple of Federer at contact. His racket face appears to be a bit closed. It isn't a whole...

Are you a staight forward or variety with your stroke?

If I am hitting rather well, I prefer to play with variety, changing pace, height, and spin. If I'm having a hard time with consistency, though, I will focus on just hitting solid shots.

    Quick Forehand Question

Most pictures I have seen of the racket head right at contact on topspin forehands shows the racket face slightly closed (as in less then 10º). You can certainly get topspin if the racket is perpendicular to the ground too, but that is likely for more of an eastern grip (can't really back that...

Why am I always waiting for a ball that never comes...

It sounds like you just have yet to master reading the ball off your opponent's strings. As you play more and get more experience with different players and different styles, you will be able to determine exactly what to expect (pace, trajectory, spin, depth, bounce, etc.) as soon as your...

    Returning KICK Serves

When I get someone hurting me on the serves (no matter what type it is), I just move about 2 feet inside the baseline and trust my tennis instinct to help me out. Take pretty much zero backswing, and take a full whack at it. I seem to hit better serve returns when the serves are hit quicker. It...

I don't think PS 85 is so special

I like how you make a blanket statement like "no college player uses the PS85" without any way to back it up. I do actually use the PS85, and it is by far the best racket I have ever played with. Am I a top D1 player looking to go pro? No, but I can definitely play some high quality tennis the...
