MY POLY REVIEWS

If you play with a more open string pattern, go for the 1.25 mm or even 1.30 in a spin effect or Pure Aero racquet. I play with 1.20 in the DR98, which works well for me, but I prefer 1.20 strings in that racquet. Another possible issue is weight, the difference between 1.20 and 1.30 could affect the overall balance if you are sensitive to that.
good call on weight/swingweight being affected

Toalson ProFocus 1.30

This one gives a noticeable bump in directional control. They call this "pinpoint accuracy polyester" and that is what you get. Power is low, feel is fairly muted, spin adequate. It is still firm at contact like most polyesters. Out of the 3 Toalson string I have tried I liked this one the most. Control reminded me of Luxilon 4G - pick a spot, place the ball exactly there. No funny launch angles, no spraying, no unnecessary springiness. You get what you give. Profocus is designed for a big hitting player in mind; I could swing all out on my shots and the ball dropped in most of the time. Life is average. Control started suffering after about 3hrs. I cut it out after about 7hrs. Still it is a solid, well balanced offering from Toalson.
Where would this string be on your list?

Polyfibre Panthera..... why was this string ever made? It has an intriguing transparent blood orange color and an image of a pissed off wild cat on the packaging. That's about it in terms of advantages lol.

If you want a polyester without snapback you reach out for Polyfibre Panthera. It is sticky, very sticky. After the first outing I actually checked back to make sure it is a poly. it is classified as "co-poly" which in majority of cases mean a polyester core with a softer outer layer that promotes comfort and movement across the stringbed. Panthera fails at both. I switched between that setup and a Yonex PTP that had 8 hrs on it and nearly dead Yonex still played better!

It has good control - I will give it that. Low power. Moderate swings have nothing on it, land short and get killed right away. It plays like a super stiff multi with good control; if that is what you want in your setup - this is your string. It is a very unique string but not in a good way.

Polyfibre makes some strange strings. TCS is fine, but both Panthera and Hightec Premium have this sticky composition that I couldn't stand. I hear that Black Venom is a decent slick and comfy poly but based on my experience so far I do not see myself trying it anytime soon.

Yes, it definitely is, even at 48/46 it plays like wire. Wasn't a fan. I bought those two sets to see if they were similar to Zo Verve but for Devil Spin it was clear that's it plays very different although the construction is similar.

Devil Spin has allowed me to play some of my best tennis due to its consistency, control, and playability duration. Bought 16/17/18 reels of it.
But it has also been killing my elbow. Hybriding it with a softer cross helps somewhat but still. Be careful with this sucker.
16/17 do very well in an open pattern or large frames to control the power.
17/18 is good in a tight pattern frames also in lower tension if you can provide the power.

I have a set of that (called Neos-3, later rebranded as Black Knight), will try it next along with a couple of more Tier One strings I have left
Great news, I love Tier One strings.
Which ones are you going to try?
I am interested to know your opinion about Black Knight (did not have the opportunity to try it) and also Strike Force RIP, which I liked a lot and plays rather similar to Kirschbaum Max Power Rough (with a bit more spin). Maybe you will like it too!

I have tested the Firewire already. I have the Tour Status, Durafluxx and the Neos-3 left

Good, thanks.
It is however a shame that you don't have Strike Force RIP, since I think you would like it (as, how I wrote, it is similar to Max Power Rough, it offers excellent control and very good spin).

Thanks for all this info! Which strings would you recommend in the 2017 pure strike 18x20? Either hybrid or on its own. Thanks! Mainly looking for control, accuracy and arm friendliness. Secondary of course is the tension maintenance.

You are already getting tons of control with the closed pattern. I always found thin polyester at sub 50lbs work best in 18x20s of all kinds. Id recommend Solinco Revolution, HyperG, Head Hawk or Solstice Power all in 18 gauge. Start with 50/48 and see how it feels; take it down another couple of pounds, then 2 more pounds with following string jobs until you can tell that control suffers... this way you can find the lowest possible tension (more power, better comfort) that you can control with this frame based on your swing and game style.

I personally rarely use hybrids; multi or gut cross seem to lock the stringbed and result in reduced spin. Gut mains poly cross is probably the only hybrid I have really liked. Still it remains a matter of personal preference. If you cannot stand a full bed of polyester in 18x20 no matter how low you go in tension, softer cross will soften up the frame and improve feel.

Ytex SquareX was pronounced dead today at about 8hr mark. It is as dead as poly could be. Big tension loss and complete loss of control. Still I am contemplating to put this in the top 10. Top 15 for sure. I am not a fan of medium powered polyesters but this one is very well balanced. Will look at the numbers and put it into the table tomorrow with some more comments.

I like square-x, one of my go to strings that i keep around. Plays well low tension as well and increases longevity.

yeah it is a very effective string. Not as springy as the QuadroTwist and control is better
launch angle is also more reasonable then quadro twist. It gives really nice kick but doesn’t kick up high, kick provides movement through the court

agreed. good kick serves, solid bite on the ball and great court penetration once the extra power level is dialed in.

TNT mains broke in the Rev Pro (which surprisingly has been the only frame I'm using in the last few weeks) so I strung up RS Lyon 17 last night. It feels really good bouncing a ball around the house and I think my knot skills are getting much better (no more strange vibrations). Hopefully a court will be available tonight as it's been very crowded lately.

Lyon is great around 50lbs. There is a lot of talk about Lyon being some cheap string re-marketed but I do not buy that. It plays too well.

RS Lyon is a great string to play with no doubt (one of my favourites), especially in a DR98, If you find a good price for a reel it's a no brainer.

I guess some people think RS Lyon is a rebranded cheaper string, others believe it's a high-quality string designed by Söderling himself. Some appear to feel very strongly about this

Hey @Mareqnyc I know you were one of the playtesters for P17 and used it extensively so need some advice/feedback from you.

I'm trying to find an arm friendly setup for a friend who uses full poly in his APD and has recently switched to the Strikes.

Any particular string setup you would recommend? I told him NG/poly hybrid but he wants copoly full bed. The PS17 is on the harsher side so I'm looking for alternatives.

I never liked gut/poly in the Strikes all that much. Playable and improved feel but full bed of poly seemed to work best with the P17. Unfortunately it got to the point that no matter what I strung with I would feel pain in the most bizarre spots like the inside of elbow joint and top of the wrist. It is a great playing stick but if your arm is sensitive like mine It will definitely aggregate it sooner or later. Rest is the only way out in that case.
If comfort is an issue the Strike is not an easy racquet to balance in terms of stringing. Very soft, comfortable string below 50lbs seems to fit the bill but it could be too springy ( evenly spaced crosses make it a quite powerful frame to begin with). The higher you go with tension the more issues with comfort obviously. Thinner gauge is a no brainer here.
Weiscannon Silverstring did not bother my arm at all and played very well in the Strike, Pro Supex Big Ace, Rs Lyon and Yonex PTP also performed very well. If he did full poly in APD Id suggest he starts at 53-51lbs and goes down form there. 2 lbs lower in the subsequent string jobs until the control is compromised. This way he could play with the most arm friendly and controllable setup for his game.

Played for 1.5 hours with Lyon last night. It's probably the best round poly I've played with in full bed (close with PTP). That being said, I still don't love round poly. You just don't get the same feel of the string biting into the ball.

Great string, would be a perfect cross with multi/gut mains

Tried out a new string for me, Yonex poly tour spin. Loving it and I’m on hour 7 approx. Love the low power and terrific spin. Strung @50lbs on my Angell and it is a great match and very comfy with good feel to boot. It is great for my serve, getting beautiful kick.

Oh yeah I liked this one a lot! My too choice for low power and spin. You can strings this in mid 40's and still retain control. Gteat for big big swinging.

Lyon is a very nicely balanced string. Gives exactly what you put in, the bal does exactly what it is intended to do. I will probably pick up a reel when Im in Europe next time

Yeah, not as muted as RS but terrific control and more spin. I’ll probably lower tension gradually and find my sweet spot. Only string so far that is contender to RS in my TC100.

Tired of playing mediocre strings..... Genesis Hexonic 1.27. Average across the board.
Will combine Ytex SquareX, Pro's Pro Concept and Genesis HExonic into a table later today with some notes on how they play.

What's next in the queue?
I have 3 Tier One strings that I want to test next. Durafluxx, Black Knight and Tour Status. I liked the Firewire, just not enough control; kinda erratic at times but fun to use.
Just not sure when. I have a bunch of sticks to string for other people (fun tip: do not tell anyone you string unless you wanna be stuck behind your stringer for days...lol)

How are you getting on with the DR98? And are you not tired yet of changing strings so often? :D
DR is a great all-round stick and it doesn't hurt my arm at all which is critical as I get older. I have them at 11.9oz now and they play great. I will definitely stick to it for the time being. Serves are big, groundstrokes are solid. Slice is not great but gets the job done.
Changing strings often... I am not a pro, just a recreational player. It probably hurts my consistency but I enjoy trying out new stuff. I know I will settle after I am done with the sets I have.

Did you try FireWire Boost? Lots of love for this string on Mikelers thread.
