Bit harsh for Rafa. Against someone like Isner it's more about reaction, Isner played a good return game to break and just bombed aces past Rafa.
I didn't watch the first game so I don't know. I just see Nadal is being too passive. He lets Isner attack all the time.

Classic today Rafa. Break just to be broken right back. He played great in his return game and first two points of his service game (and Isner played great those two as well) and than out of nowhere made 3 UE. In whole set before he made just another 3...

If that is the way Rafa will play in real tournaments from now then he will not hold the number 1 rank until the end of the year. Federer is much closer than people think.

What will you say now? Broke back just to make 3 terrible forehand errors and gift the set.

However still made just 6 UEs in whole set. It is definitely not the best Rafa ever but as well far from the worst. Especially indoors. I would say he is about average indoor Rafa.

There are no excuses to being outplayed at the baseline by Isner.

When Isner is hitting his FH like he is right now... not that big deal. I hate like all of you guys act like "noone can ever play better than good (or average) (inśert your favourite player)". They are all professionals and all are great players.

He plays pretty much on the same level as against Thiem.

IT would be a joke to draw any inference about real tennis from what we are seeing here in this little-more-than-exho tournament.

If Nadal drops it short in the court, any professional player is going to deal with it unless they are an UE machine. LOL! You have excuse that **** and my fellow Fed fans, our faves have to be seen as invincible at all times.

ii think RAFA short balls are much harder to deal with because it has so much RPM's and heaviness...

Why Nadal doesn't return like in USO? He stayed very far behind the baseline, and that helped him a lot against Anderson. Why did he decide to stay closer?

Anderson's main strength is his down the T serve. His serve out wide isn't that good at all.
So nadal didn't have to worry that much about cutting the wide serve out.

Not the case with Isner, who is a considerably superior and more versatile server.

I will bet Next year, tickets in Chicago will be super expensive,,, unless you don't mind sitting on the roof. I have a feeling they will try to rip people off....

But if you stay far you get more chance to reach the ball. If you stay close against a player like Isner then you will not get much chances to return serve. If there will be a tie break here then all the pressure will be on Nadal. Because Isner's return game looks much better so far.
