Polyester socks suck! (asics)

I've owned asics clothing before and the quality wasnt too bad so recently I bought some asics training crew socks "endorsed by Steve Johnson" with something like 97% polyester.

First thing I noticed after wearing them inside my shoes was that my feet were overheating, the ventilation was horrible even though the socks were thin.

Then, went on court and I was sliding in my shoes on every step! I've read on this forum that asics socks are really slippery and now I understand what they meant. This doesn't happen with cotton socks for me.

ALSO after wearing the socks for a match, my feet smell REALLY BAD and this is because from what I understand, unlike natural fabrics like cotton, polyester doesnt "breathe" hence the overheating problem too.

Im not sure if its just asics, but I sure wont be buying polyester socks again.

In summary, if you buy polyester socks:

•your feet will overheat
•you will slide around in your shoes
•your feet will STINK really really bad

I had to laugh reading this. My feet get very sweaty very easily, so I went bought some high performance runners 'wicking' socks. The type that are made from SmartWool (and polyester) that are supposed to breathe, and wick moisture away from your feet.

Oh my God - exactly was you describe. My feet started overheating and sweating as soon as my shoe was tied up, and it only got worse from there. Sure - when I pulled my feet out of my shoes, I could feel them start to evaporate pretty quickly, but the way they caused my feet to sweat was quite startling. I wore them once and gave both pairs away.

There is a saying in outdoor adventure sports... "cotton kills". Especially with socks. Cotton soaks up sweat and holds it against your skin. That is why they feel cooler (think about putting a dry towel around your neck vs. a wet one). But they increase your risk of blisters and other ailments significantly. And really aren't any warmer. Maybe I am just used to it, but I have no issues with synthetic socks while playing.

Yeah, poly socks are the worst. I bought some a while back thinking they'd be good for tennis, and my feet sliding around in my shoe like a lubed up baby seal on a slip & slide.

I always wear 2 pairs of cushioned synthetic Nike elite socks in a 1/2 size bigger shoe and my feet love me for it, the cushioning and comfort is also amazing!

I have tried them all. At the moment, I am a fan if Zensah socks.

Great combination of comfort, breathability, moisture wicking, cushioning, and performance IMO.

I am in the same boat -- no issues whatsoever with synthetic socks. Moreover, I have also gone from thicker socks (Thorlo and Euro Sock) to both medium-thin and very thin socks. I find the thin synthetics keep my feet drier and more comfortable due to the wicking effect. No slipping, either. Just get the right fit and lace your shoes properly. In particular, I really like Fitsock's products. I guess this is why they make both chocolate and vanilla.
