Hugs, Not Handshakes

“For Djokovic, hugging has become part of his mental routine, the result of time with Pepe Imaz, a Spanish spiritual guru who specialized in a technique with meditation and prolonged hugs called Amor y Paz (“Love and Peace”).”

Pepe “Maharishi Mahesh” Imaz, net positive or negative for Djoker tennis record ?

I like to think this was started by Djokovic. He's the first player I saw consistently doing it after every match.

Del Po was doing it in 2007-08, at the beginning of his career. Maybe they're tied for the first guys to do it regularly?

Stupid soft millenials, Connors, lendl and mac would have never hugged.

Call me old-school, but I like the traditional handshake. After all, you're working out there. Keep it professional.

The 'I know you ain't no jive turkey' hand clasp (that is today's defacto handshake) should be reserved for players you actually like (that you happen to have to play against).

Hugs, I'm not sold on. Unless you're in some kind of epically awesome match. With someone you like.

I mean, I know I'm not the most touchy-feely of guys, but my hugs count. I don't just give them to everyone. I work in food and beverage and interact with hundreds of people every week. But I don't wanna hug them all. You get a hug from me, it means something. Means we're golden.

I'm fine with hugs - for other people. ;)

I've got the inherited damage of "old school" men in my family who thought a hug was the first step towards anal sex. ;)

I'm only half kidding. Talk about up tight!

I think the way things are now is much improved.

The old-school handshake is good, but it's also pretty intimate.

I think the fist-bump is the best. Sanitary, appropriately reserved. Respects boundaries, no clasping of other body parts.

Oh, my family was cold and uptight as hell. They were also a miserable bunch. I'm FOR SURE not the type of guy who thinks hugs are unmanly or a sign of weakness or effeminacy. I got two brothers. Whenever I go visit them the first thing we do is hug. Real hugs, too. Not those awkward guy hugs. :) And we kiss each other on the cheek, even though we grown men. But that's more of a Latino thing.

Nah, I like hugs just fine. I'm just more of a selective hugger. :p

First it was traditional handshake, then it was the casual handshake, now hugging. What's next? Monfils and dimitrov have already tried kissing, will anybody else pick up the new trend??

I would love to See Rafa and the Italian do something cute tomorrow!!
