I think Djokovic pips him on boredom for me. I wanted to check last night's results on my phone this morning and realised that Djoko/Pouille was just starting so I decided to get up and watch it. The sleep I lost I will never get back. The match was so boring.

It's a fact that I find Murray boring ;)

That said I'm rooting for him in his comeback. I think he legitimately loves to play and is coming back just for the battle. I have to love that. Plus I do think he's a cool guy and I like his sense of humor.
I will also add that should he get back to the top 4 his consistency would balance out the draws.

I was always skeptical about the drive to push F1, tennis, and other sports into China, Russia, and the Gulf States.

The money is there, but the traditions aren't.

Qataris have just lost their chance to hold an Olympic Games for the foreseeable future after the World Athletics Championships attendance debacle.

Every year when I watch these asian tournaments men and women there is no one there. Well the Japanese tournaments seem to have decent attendance but the Chinese ones sheesh. They must just throw money at the ATP and WTA.

Andy Murray tables China Open complaint ahead of Dominic Thiem clash

By MIKAEL MCKENZIE
PUBLISHED: 07:45, Thu, Oct 3, 2019 | UPDATED: 07:48, Thu, Oct 3, 2019

Andy Murray hopes the China Open attendances improve after only a handful of supporters showed up to his opening matches.
The Brit has won back-to-back singles ties for the first time since undergoing hip resurfacing surgery.
"Last couple of days in terms of atmosphere it's been not as good as you would like,” Murray said.
However, he is hopeful of improvement for his mouthwatering clash with Thiem.
He added: ”I think as the tournament goes on you tend to get better crowds towards the end of the week.
"I don't know if I'm complaining about it, but I'd like it to be bigger crowds and nicer atmospheres.

Tickets are expensive!

It really is empty. Tokyo, on the other hand, has what looks like a full stadium, at least for Novak matches.
Tokyo was sold out, but only 10,000 seat stadium. Beijing's former Olympic site has 15,000 and 10,000 seat stadiums. Economy in China not its usual red hot self these days may not be helping.

What I don't get is how Beijing has double the purse.

I am convinced that the problem's cause is something that no one has talked about much yet: stadium architecture. Beijing center court is basically the worst version of Madrid's Caja Magica and French Open's court-PC style design: an "all VIP" lower ring with each few couple of seats —some of which fancy wide sofas— are all separated by walls on three sides, plus here and there are what looks like tables or whatever other redundant "furniture" it is. And then the whole lower ring itself is separated from the upper ring by multiple thick layers of rings consisting corporate skyboxes and advertisement bars... all of whch takes up visual real estate. And then finally high up above, in the dark shadows of the roof are the poor "real" crowd, who aren't able to go downstairs to sit in the lower area even if they were allowed (since the upper ring is physically too isolated from not only the court but everything below it .

This is bad. We all know eveyrone downstairs is on a "company ticket". The total number of seats down there is already small and on top of that filled with the kind of people who may not show up even if they have a ticket (since they didn't buy it). Leading to a never ending series of "occupied but empty" seats that the orgnaizers are reluctant to resell since it's sold already.

My solution: knock down the fancy seats surrounded by walls, bring some of the upper tier "ticket buyers" seats downstairs

He is right. Stands are 80% empty during day sessions weekdays. It's really poor for the image of tennis and for its promotion. I know the money talks and China being one of the biggest markets out there can have anything they want, maybe except a slam but who knows what happens one day. Still they don't even have a single player in the TOP100 if I'm not mistaken. That's crazy.

Inflation.....

10 years ago you get top 10 line up for cheaper. Now because Fed Djok and Nad are getting old, ticket sellers e.g.tennis event organisers can charge what they think is fair

Hence...without Nadal or Kygrios you dont have much left except little bits of gold from Murray and Fognini.

Tennis is boring half the time because 95% of pro's come from tennis factories that tell them all to hit the same way.

To quote the late Daniel Moynihan: "You're entitled to your own opinion, you're not entitled to your own facts".

I don't know what you all are talking about

According to Federer, the stands are full!!!

“The size, when it comes to anything, is just off the charts. The fans get together, really make a conscious effort and want to show me how excited and happy they are... Means a lot to me. Don't get that kind of fan grouping like this together anywhere else in the world.”

That statement regards the fans welcoming him upon arriving for the tournament and possibly for some of his training sessions.

There are a fair number of Chinese players in the WTA, including 5 in the top 100. Not so much the ATP, with only one player in the top 200.

Yet China can have big tennis tournaments. They have no tennis culture. For me this part of the tour is the lowest point of the year. Why cant for example South America somewhere have it? People would show up. For sure they would show up in Europe too.

Dollars talk. The Chinese pay more to the ATP than any of the South Americans would be able to.

Must be much less people are watching this on TV. People half into tennis dont even know there are tournaments in China. I guess "tv attendance" doesnt matter that much.
Sad it is like this, it is not fun to watch tennis w that atmosphere.

Don't get me started on the ATP's attitude to TV attendance. They never would have taken the contract from Sky and British Eurosport and given it to crappy Amazon if they cared 2 hoots about us TV fans!

Thats ITF for the slams. You can always pay for Eurosport player during slams.
I love ATP Tennis TV. Worth every dollar.
Like this it is no commercials. Life is too short for that.
