Whats his record he is #1? Because one could argue that hes not playing his best if hes not #1. Lets prove without a shadow of a doubt that Federer is the worst GOAT.

Outside the supposed peak he was very bad then, much worse than Djokovic and Nadal.

Vs #1 at Slams:

Nadal 8-6
Djokovic 3-5
Federer 1-9
But contrary to the others Federer was a non-stop #1 himself for almost 4 years. Also it’s sometimes misleading when a player clearly rises to #1 but isn’t there yet. For example when Federer beat Djokovic at RG 2011, Djokovic was technically by far the best player in the world, but formally not yet #1.

Still I have no problem to admit that Federer indeed has/had H2H issues against both Nadal and Djokovic.

OK, you convinced me. I am not a Federer fan anymore.
So, your guy is not goat anymore and you won't be his fan anymore? I know you are sarcastic, but I am sure most of Fed "fans", ie. bandwagone crew, will just forget about him when Rafa and Novak surpass him...
It must annoy Lew that Fed is still GOAT despite all his stats.
I must admit it IS really annoying that obviously worst tennis player among big 3 has most titles. We all know what caused that, but things will, as it looks now, fortunately allign at the end...

I dunno about that. I feel like at this point, Fed is nothing more than a GOAT "contender".

Nadal getting to within 1 slam has defintely ended any sort of undisputed GOAT claim Federer had, even with his usual cheerleaders in the media. People are now calling Nadal GOAT with a straight face, and it's not being seen as an odd thing to say. Things have really changed for poor Fed. He really is the new Sampras.

I think a lot of people now believe Fed's ceiling is now no.2 of his era. He still needs to hold of Djokovic, who can surpass him and still challenge Nadal for GOAT.

The problem is that one of Nadal and Djokovic will never lead the slam race.

Agree that Nadal has closed the gap, but Federer, with his 20 slams, 300+ wks at No 1 and 6 YECs, remains GOAT of the game.

LMAO the only claim Nadal has to GOAThood is the assumption that he's going to win 2 more Slams and Federer wins nothing more.

And the assumption that Djokovic basically stops winning Slams too. Nadal is not going to get Berrettini in the SF of every Slam from 2020 onwards, people. He's 34 too. Don't act surprised if Thiem beats him at the FO, he'd already have a great chance this year if he didn't have a brutal draw just to get to Nadal who played nobodies and an 38-year old grandpa in the SF.

It's pretty inevitable Nadal at least will lead the slam race. Possibly as soon as the next 7 months.
If he stays healthy that is the most likely scenario, the only exception being if someone beats him at the French, most likely Djokovic. If Djokovic beats Nadal at the French, that would be the worst case scenario for Rafa fans other than Fed winning another slam.I don't think Thiem has what it takes to beat Rafa on Chatrier.

People only care about the slam race. And maybe H2H after that.

The average Joe who has bought into the media coronation of Federer as GOAT don't know or care about YEC. It has just as much relevance as Nadal being the Masters Record holder to them (ie none). Or Nadal having Olympic Singles Gold.

Same goes for weeks at no. 1. The average Joe does not care. They have been sold the Federer is GOAT idea based on the fact he has the most slams. Soon as Nadal passes Fed's slam total, you can scream and shout any other record Fed might still hold, but the world has been trained now to judge GOAT on the slam record, and little else.

20 is keeping Federer's nose in front. Not YEC or weeks at no.1.

LMAO

Djokodal piling up weak era slams in their 30s doesn’t make them the best tennis players.

Fed is the best tennis player ever. Nadal best on clay.

Dayummmmmm.....I guess its a good thing he himself was number 1 many of those years or he'd not have the 20 majors he has huh. Looks like number 1 does well. :)

We've heard that before, many times...

Still, I have to defend RF here and say that he'd been no 1 so long in some of his best seasons that he couldn't play himself. Hence the numbers being so extreme.

Nevertheless, there is a tendency by RF to fail to win most of the crucial matches which would prove his GOATness. Instead, he loses many hence angers his fans and makes the GOAT debate very open.

Not so open to include Gasquet and Henman, but still open.

All of the #1s he played against were significantly younger who turned out to be all time greats themselves. This is not a stain on his resume. If anything, his motivation at age 30 and above, to bring himself to the final stages of Slams to face these #1s over and over, will be an enduring achievement and legacy of his career.

I think even Federer is having an easier time accepting that Nadal will pass him (and maybe Djokovic as well).

I feel like some of Roger's fans will be on suicide watch. Is Fed not being one of the all-time greats with an aesthetically pleasing game not enough?

Were you only fans of the guy in the first place because he was prematurely declared GOAT?

Djokovic has had a pretty significant decline on clay. He was consistently the second best clay courter for several seasons after Rafa. Now Thiem is comfortably better than him on clay. And even at his best, he was never really able to do much against Nadal at the French (other than in Nadal's career worst season in 2015, when he was losing to everyone and being told to retire).

Djokovic has nothing for Nadal at the French any longer. The bagel and breadstick Nadal gave Djokovic this year at the Rome Masters showed where that match-up is on clay. If Djokovic manages to meet Nadal in a Roland Garros final, I give him about a less than 30% chance of winning. Nadal would need to be really below par, and if he's in the final, he probably isn't.

The best hope people have of Nadal losing the French is a Nadal injury, or Thiem finding another gear that's neccesary to beat Nadal at his fortress.

It IS an odd thing to say. Unless one is really bad at math. As usual Rafans and Nolefam counting their chickens before they hatch. You haven't learned from the past at all.

I’m not really as bothered as you might think. Regardless of how many weak era slams Djokodal pile up in their 30s, Fed’s the best player I’ve seen and we still have videos of old matches to enjoy. Yeah sure the trolls on here are insufferable, but easily ignored.

I don’t live my life vicariously through a tennis player.
