Just seeing this @mctennis -- yea, I would say about 4-8 hours a week!Michelle,
I know this is an older post from you. I am curious about the number of hours you got out of Ice Code when you used it? I know you said three weeks of time but how many court hours? I play about 4-6 hours a week so that is what one item I try to base my strings on, hours of play before having to cut it out.
Thank you.
Mike

Hope that helps!

Hey Mike,Hello Michelle,
Yes, you answer really helps. That's about how much I play in a week as well. I will give this one a spin on the court. Did you actually switch over to this string? You mentioned you may on the string review video.
Thank you!
Mike
Hi Michelle,Hey Mike,
Yes! I did switch.
However, two things have happened since I made the switch...1) I got prototype strings put in my hitters and 2) a lot of people at TW have jumped on the Ice Code train and are using my string! However, I'm playtesting the TF 40 315 and Pure Strike 98 16x19 right now both strung with Ice Code. So that helps
BUT really just want to get it strung back up at MY tension in my RFs soon!
Michelle, TW
Spin probably won't be the highlight feature of hitting with this string, but I don't feel like I lost out on anything in the spin department with Ice Code compared to Hyper G. One of the competing tennis retailers wrote a review of this string saying it was powerful, but I would agree more with the TW reviews that it's a fantastic control string with great feel. Perhaps it feels powerful because of the pocketing effect, but for me I think the control I get from the string subconsciously frees me a bit more to take bigger cuts at the ball, which also affects how much spin I can produce. I do think, however, there are other strings out there are better for straight up spin potential.

Got to try Ice Code out for the first time tonight at 52/50lbs in a Pro Staff 97.
Yes I liked it and it played like a better Yonex Poly Tour Pro, very similar but a bit more lively and with more feel. For the stiffness is was nice and comfortable on the joints too, which was a surprising bonus.
Yep I did.Has anyone played the Ice Code against RS Lyon? Curious as to how they compare
I did too. To put it simple: ice code made me hate lyon. I strung lyon at 21 kg in my blade. But that felt so stiff and boardy. I feel like i needed to string much lower. Might try that again.Has anyone played the Ice Code against RS Lyon? Curious as to how they compare
@mctennisHi Michelle,
Just checking a couple of things with you. Are you still using Ice Code? I watched the video review again and you said you strung yours up at 58lbs. Is that still the tension you are actually using? I usually string mine tighter as well, 59M/55C. I just wanted to see if you thought the tighter tension still worked out better for you. I've had some knee isuues so I have not played since the last message to you here.
Thanks ,
Mike
Hi Michelle,@mctennis
Hi Mike,
Yes, still using Ice Code! As are a few other playtesters. I actually recently played in a tournament and ramped up the tension to 62 lbs. I'm here for it And enjoy it -- it allows me to hit out and try and hit through any nerves. After 3 weeks, the string for sure deadens and needs to be restrung. I wouldn't tell everyone to go out and string it super high, but for someone who already is familiar with poly at high tensions, it is working for me. I know several people who love it under 50#s as well mainly because of the great pocketing and control.
For now, I'm sticking with it!

Hey Irvin,My opinion hasn’t changed I’m still liking it.
I seem to like a DT of 28 from the Stringway online tension advisorHey Irvin,
Have you settled on a tension yet or are you still experimenting?
I too prefer a softer stringbed and have a couple of packs of Ice Code 1.25 I'm planning to string up in a couple of flexier 95's, one 16 x 19 and one 18 x 20.
Thanks Irvin, fun tool to play around with.I seem to like a DT of 28 from the Stringway online tension advisor
Had exactly the same feeling with this string... Don't know why but doesn't work for meI used Ice Code in 16g, 50 pounds ATW in my TT310.
Maybe it was the weather, or the racquet, or something. The performance was horrible. There was no feel off the stringbed, very clunky feeling. I couldn't tell where I was hitting the ball. When I really setup and torqued my forehand, it would 9/10 times go long. There wasn't enough spin even taking big cuts from the baseline. Serves were decent though. Tension maintenance was amazing.
Tecnifibre HDMX though. That is a beautiful string.

Exactly !I tried the 1.20 version (48/46 in DR98), didn't work for me either - control wasn't there probably due to a combination of low spin and a bit of a "launchy" response. I found it often unpredictable and the tension maintenance was not great either. Very much prefer RS Lyon over it (same gauge).

Yes I've tried it in my TF40 305. It played great the first few hours - great pocketing and power with good control - but then it somehow turned springy. I was suddenly overhitting a lot and had big problems in landing even the slowest volleys within the baseline. I've switched now to Razor Code White 18 which feels pretty similar with good amount of power but the control is way better. They are both pretty stiff on paper but there's something in them that makes them feel not stiff and dead at all.Has anybody tried this in 18g? Feedback?

I think it was 22/21 kg. In retrospect I should have gone a bit higher, say 23-24 kg.What was your tension?
It was a time ago I played with ALU but Ice Code sure felt powerful. And I found it comfortable as well, despite its high stiffness rating. To me it plays pretty similar to the new Razor Code White, which felt nothing like the older colour versions. How does the power and comfort level of ice code (18g in particular) compare to ALU power?

What do you consider a "higher " tension?Played with ice code 1.25 and its a great string but it moves around and that is the biggest problem,
also to stiff on some frames on higher tensions.
So you restrung your racquets after the 7 hours and 6 hours of play?I kept a log for 2 frames strung with a fresh set Ice Code. Measurements where done with a tennis tension app (works really nice BTW). I will keep logging until I feel the need for fresh strings.
No, this is just the data until now, I usually play 12 to 20 hours with each raquet before I put new strings in.So you restrung your racquets after the 7 hours and 6 hours of play?
Ok. I was just clarifying what the cue in hours for you to restring your racquets. I have been thinking about using the Ice Code. I have been using YTex Quadro Twist strings with very nice results. The YTex Quadro Twist lasts longer than the other copolys I have tried until I need to restring. I get tired of the copolys needing restringing after about 6-8 hours. I play 5-7 hours a week. So basically I had to restring my racquets about every week or so. That was expen$ive to do. I get a lot more hours of play from the YTex Quadro Twist. By reading the comments of the TW staff reviews and the comments from other players here I was interested in seeing just how many hours people get from the Ice Code strings. I do not string my racquets so I have to factor the stringing charge when I restring my racquets. I rotate between three of the same racquets so it does not feel like I am restringing them as often, in my mind. I will do two at a time when I do restring. Sounds like I may be trying out the Ice Code strings. No, this is just the data until now, I usually play 12 to 20 hours with each raquet before I put new strings in.
I've used the Stringway on line tension advisor to string it with a DT of 28 which depending on the racket and pattern results in tensions in the low 40s and I like it.Has anyone tried stringing this in the low 40's high 30's. I'm stringing both today, one will be at my favourite reference tension of 46, which does work well in the gravity pro. But the other I wanted to try dropping Lower or even going higher back to 50lbs, just for testing it out. Which way is worth experimenting?
It looks like it settled after 5-6 hours no?The stringbed felt good until I broke a string due to a mishit.
Final result:
About 13% tension loss with almost 20 hours play time.
Yes, I think that is right, with my TF40 it also settled after 5-6 hours. It looks like it settled after 5-6 hours no?
Okay. I found it a bit too springy with a lot a power, almost too much, at least at 22 kg in my TF40, so I cut it out after only like four hours. I probably should've given it a few more extra hours to get used to its characteristics? I liked the power, especially on serves, but had a hard time landing my volleys and groundies within the lines. The directional control, on the other hand, was awesome. I'll probably have to give it another try. The new white Razor Code feels similar in many ways.Yes, I think that is right, with my TF40 it also settled after 5-6 hours.
I would try a little higher tension, I strung it at 26/25 kg in my CX200+, and the stringbed had a soft feel right from the first hit, control decreased only slight from excellent to very good. When I string my TF40 again (now at 23,5 / 22,5 kg), I will increase tension a bit also, like 25 / 24 kg.Okay. I have the 18g strung at 45/43 in my modded TF40 305 and the tension seems fine to me. Maybe I can go up 2/3 pounds, but I'm also playing in 45 degree weather so I didn't want to string it up so high.
