Mariano Puerta admits he lied in his doping defense in 2005. At the time he said he took a drink from his wife's glass. Now he is saying he took a pill that his trainer asked his friend to make. Not sure how to share the source but Sebastian Torok wrote a great article in argentinean Lanacion newspaper about this.

Not sure anyone cares much now but great find. I remember rooting for him against Nadal in 2005. He had such a vicious forehand. It's such a shame he decided to dope as I thought his forehand would have got him far regardless

I mean... he was caught doing twice so there is a good chance he got to play Nadal because of doping.

Sad. He really did have a great game on clay. Just shows how some of these players lie through their teeth to "explain" why they doped at the time they're caught.

A guy like Korda never would have won the AO without his juice. Dude should be stripped of that title.

That was the best doping excuse ever though - I think he deserves to get away with it just for that imaginative response.
i still want somebody to get busted while he's doing it wit the needle of the blood bag in his arm only to look straight at the cop or whatever and just go 'mate it's acapuncture'

I bet Davydenko would care if Puerta was doping. He was prevented from making a slam final where he would've faced an opponent that he continued to have a winning record over for his entire career.

Puerta may have kind of changed tennis history.

One of these days nadal will have his lance armstrong moment and be stripped of every slam hopefully.
