We have seen a lot of 1 slam wonders on the WTA. Will Emma be the next Ostapenko, or will she be a multi slam champion? Awaiting your comments!
A left-handed baseliner already claiming moral victories at only age 19… we may have a worthy heir to Rafa Nadal, ladies and gentlemen.Laylah is the real US Open champ as she beat several giants, but that’s my opinion.
Mate...please don’t compare Emma with the drama queen Ostapenko...We have seen a lot of 1 slam wonders on the WTA. Will Emma be the next Ostapenko, or will she be a multi slam champion? Awaiting your comments!
Well I do recall him winning 11 titles and a grand slam during the season he was 19, not sure Leylah is there yet...A left-handed baseliner already claiming moral victories at only age 19… we may have a worthy heir to Rafa Nadal, ladies and gentlemen.
lol I was trolling as the phrase “x is the real winner” is typically used by fans of Rafa and had to laugh.Well I do recall him winning 11 titles and a grand slam during the season he was 19, not sure Leylah is there yet...
Yeah, how does anyone even know at this point that she WILL be a one slam wonder? Looking at the fundamentals, I wouldn't say so. Ostapenko and Kenin had weak serves and dodgy groundgames in their own way. Raducanu is more like Swiatek but maybe more complete in important respects when it comes where most tennis is played at - hard courts.Geez, you might think a post of this nature might have some merit if the year was 2026 and Emma was still stuck on one.
Just a bit anxious wouldn't you say? LOL!!!
But lost to Raducanu.... in her tenth match of the tournament.Don’t you think we are overhyping Raducanu way to early? Like you said, she just won the US Open, so give her some time, lol! She had a much easier draw than Laylah. IMO, not taking anything away from Raducanu, Laylah is the real US Open champ as she beat several giants, but that’s my opinion.

I’m not sure that’s fair on stupid threads...What a stupid thread.
Raducanu may have had an easier draw on paper to get to the final but that is not her fault that the seeded players on her side of the draw got knocked out earlier than expected. Ultimately she still had to beat those opponents that knocked out the seeded players in the earlier rounds, so completely warrants her place in the final and the title... Saying Laylah is the real US champ is completely absurd.Don’t you think we are overhyping Raducanu way to early? Like you said, she just won the US Open, so give her some time, lol! To that end, I'm surprised the OP isn't on the 'Raducanu is a Canadian' band wagon.Claiming Leylah as the moral victor, questioning Raducanu's credentials, picture of an Ice Hockey player in the profile (looks like a Montreal Canadiens top to me)... Ladies and gentleman we have a Canadian!
What do you expect? She ripped up the record book. When something happens that has never happened before it is bound to create headlines.A lot of posters here are overreacting on Emma."Is Raducanu the best ever"? "Impressive Emma Raducanu this and that"..
She won a slam and I'm tired of her already bc of the hype she's getting here.smh.
I still think it's too early and too much. What do you expect? She ripped up the record book. When something happens that has never happened before it is bound to create headlines.
It don't matter who Leylah beats, it will be from now onwards when she meets Emma at the finals of a major, be a mental hurdle like when Federer meets Nadal at Roland Garros. No doubt she is a very resilient player, and it doesn't take away from her, it sometimes just is.Don’t you think we are overhyping Raducanu way to early? Sharapova is a long time back. Compare instead with Bouchard whom we heard a LOT about before she reached her first slam final. Or Coco who we heard a lot about because she was the youngest in 20 years to make the main draw at Wimbledon. Relative to either, both Raducanu and Fernandez got to fly under the radar. Now that they got to the biggest stage, the hype is unavoidable, especially for Raducanu. But Raducanu is a prodigy in a transitioning WTA hungry for new star(s) who will dominate. Sharapova was yet another talent in the most competitive era of WTA. Naturally Raducanu gets more attention.I still think it's too early and too much.
I don't recall Maria Sharapova getting the same amount of hype, at the age of 17 after winning Wimbledon against defending champion Serena Williams. The point is of course Emma is British, so we are bound to hear more about her even if she doesn't win anything in years to come.
Have a think about how the world has changed since 2004. What social media was there back then?I still think it's too early and too much.

The world has changed for sure, but the hype was also unbearable for Murray in 07 to the point that he was already seen with 10 slams and the successor to Fed, totally ignoring Djokodal.lol.Have a think about how the world has changed since 2004. What social media was there back then?
Raducanu is the youngest slam winner since Sharapova. She is younger than Kuznetsova and Andreescu and other than them, there have been no teen slam winners since Sharapova. Obviously there would be a hype.I still think it's too early and too much.

so let's see, what you're asking is whether Laylah will be a 1 slam wonder since SHE actually won the USO. Any other clever insights?Laylah is the real US Open champ as she beat several giants, but that’s my opinion.
We have competition for Da Real Slam guys.Don’t you think we are overhyping Raducanu way to early? Like you said, she just won the US Open, so give her some time, lol! Me to.I'd like to see these two play Coco Gauff. The American commentators talk her up so much.
A lot of posters here are overreacting on Emma."Is Raducanu the best ever"? "Impressive Emma Raducanu this and that"..

Please allow me to take 10 to 15 years to provide a solid answer to this question. We have seen a lot of 1 slam wonders on the WTA. Will Emma be the next Ostapenko, or will she be a multi slam champion? Awaiting your comments!
May be even complete the Grand Slam which Nole missedShe will win 2022 AO, FO along with a couple of WTA 1000s and by the time of 2022 Wimbledon she will become world #1.
A better comparison would be Iga as ostapenko didn’t exactly dominate her opponents. She went through 3 setters and was a set and a break down against halep in the final. Moreover ostapenko played wild that tournaments hitting lines all over the court and it worked, Emma was playing a bit more consistent and safe.

Everyone writing her off and overhyping her are equally dumb.

It might take her a year or two to get her next slam, but she should be on a roll after that. She has to keep learning and improving.
