We have seen a lot of 1 slam wonders on the WTA. Will Emma be the next Ostapenko, or will she be a multi slam champion? Awaiting your comments!

It might take her a year or two to get her next slam, but she should be on a roll after that. She has to keep learning and improving.

Don’t you think we are overhyping Raducanu way to early? Like you said, she just won the US Open, so give her some time, lol! She had a much easier draw than Laylah. IMO, not taking anything away from Raducanu, Laylah is the real US Open champ as she beat several giants, but that’s my opinion.

A better comparison would be Iga as ostapenko didn’t exactly dominate her opponents. She went through 3 setters and was a set and a break down against halep in the final. Moreover ostapenko played wild that tournaments hitting lines all over the court and it worked, Emma was playing a bit more consistent and safe.

I’d say both her and Iga will need some time to adjust on the tour but are definitely not one slam wonders.

No, she is not. She has the mind able to keep her priorities firm and not get confused by parasites exploiting her. Cause she is clearly more intelligent and mature than average one major wonders. But we will have to wait and watch her avoid it during next year year or two before we can confirm it.

Trick is simple - she can go to college at any moment she decides she had enough of the profit grabbing circus. And that is a crucial distinction. No one can force her into doing anything. And that is freedom. That is empowerment

Geez, you might think a post of this nature might have some merit if the year was 2026 and Emma was still stuck on one.
Just a bit anxious wouldn't you say? LOL!!!
Yeah, how does anyone even know at this point that she WILL be a one slam wonder? Looking at the fundamentals, I wouldn't say so. Ostapenko and Kenin had weak serves and dodgy groundgames in their own way. Raducanu is more like Swiatek but maybe more complete in important respects when it comes where most tennis is played at - hard courts.

Emma stole Leylah's thunder. Before the semis and even finals all or most talk and attention was on Leylah. It was evident in the crowd support

Raducanu may have had an easier draw on paper to get to the final but that is not her fault that the seeded players on her side of the draw got knocked out earlier than expected. Ultimately she still had to beat those opponents that knocked out the seeded players in the earlier rounds, so completely warrants her place in the final and the title... Saying Laylah is the real US champ is completely absurd.

I dont see resemblances with ostapenkos game besides their age when wining the first GS but this question is something that only time can answer, imposible to know at this point, certainly she looks better, i personally prefer leyla, but raducanus level displayed at the uso and the way she carries herself are really remarkable

A lot of posters here are overreacting on Emma."Is Raducanu the best ever"? "Impressive Emma Raducanu this and that"..
She won a slam and I'm tired of her already bc of the hype she's getting here.smh.
What do you expect? She ripped up the record book. When something happens that has never happened before it is bound to create headlines.

I still think it's too early and too much.
I don't recall Maria Sharapova getting the same amount of hype, at the age of 17 after winning Wimbledon against defending champion Serena Williams. The point is of course Emma is British, so we are bound to hear more about her even if she doesn't win anything in years to come.

It don't matter who Leylah beats, it will be from now onwards when she meets Emma at the finals of a major, be a mental hurdle like when Federer meets Nadal at Roland Garros. No doubt she is a very resilient player, and it doesn't take away from her, it sometimes just is.

Sharapova is a long time back. Compare instead with Bouchard whom we heard a LOT about before she reached her first slam final. Or Coco who we heard a lot about because she was the youngest in 20 years to make the main draw at Wimbledon. Relative to either, both Raducanu and Fernandez got to fly under the radar. Now that they got to the biggest stage, the hype is unavoidable, especially for Raducanu. But Raducanu is a prodigy in a transitioning WTA hungry for new star(s) who will dominate. Sharapova was yet another talent in the most competitive era of WTA. Naturally Raducanu gets more attention.

Have a think about how the world has changed since 2004. What social media was there back then?

I’ll bite.
As others have pointed out, I suspect you’re Canadian. I’ll leave that there.
Emma is “Raducanu” while Laylah is “Laylah” to you. Interesting.
Your objectivity is non-existent here.
Emma Raducanu is the 2021 US Open champion. Say it to yourself a few times to begin the process of acceptance.

In answer to your question? I think she’ll win more, but I wouldn’t fall off my chair in amazement if not.

The world has changed for sure, but the hype was also unbearable for Murray in 07 to the point that he was already seen with 10 slams and the successor to Fed, totally ignoring Djokodal.lol.

Raducanu is the youngest slam winner since Sharapova. She is younger than Kuznetsova and Andreescu and other than them, there have been no teen slam winners since Sharapova. Obviously there would be a hype.

I cannot wait for Emma to play Laylah again in another tournament - still think she outguns her but its close. I still have huge respect for Laylah's game and some of the wins she had at the US were incredible. I feel for her in a way and hope she isn't disliked because her fans couldn't lose graciously - unlike her who did.

Is all this speculation because of the gambling addicts around TT? I mean, it’s pretty obvious none of us know how it will turn out, especially given the history of WTA one-hit wonders. I liked her game when I first saw it at Battle of the Brits. She seems to be making progress. But if she becomes another entitled princess out there…

Just for reference, in order to help answer OP's question, this is the epitome of a one-time wonder song from Baltimora.

Yep. Some people are also trying to write off Swiatek already even though she's only played 4 slams since she won one. She's the only WTA player to reach the round of 16 or better in all 4 of those majors but because she hasn't won or reached another final, she's somehow done at age 20. Nevermind that Iga won Rome, a 1000-level tournament, this year by beating Pliskova 6-0, 6-0.

Raducanu may have had an easier draw on paper to get to the final but that is not her fault that the seeded players on her side of the draw got knocked out earlier than expected. And the thing to keep in mind about Raducanu's easier draw is that she mostly dominated it. It would be one thing if she struggled against players ranked around #40-#50, but she beat them easily as if she were a top 5 player.

Everyone writing her off and overhyping her are equally dumb.

This. I bet nobody here has watched Raducanu play more than 10 matches. I've only watched 6 of them. How do you guess an entire career based off of that sample of an 18-year old? It's ridiculous to even try. All I can say from the 6 matches I've seen is that she has a very solid foundation and no glaring weaknesses.

Of course they are hyping Raducanu, as seen with other WTA players in recent years. She won a major and that's great--she did her job, but one should examine why some choose to start building temples to certain players who either won their first major, or a couple--but were not seen as a game-changing players on the road to winning said majors. We see how that "Barty era" BS lost its wheels as fast as the third round of the 2021 US Open, and those who supported that fantasy have largely been silent ever since. They begged for that, since there's no evidence or achievement to make such claims, and the same must be said of Raducanu.

She (Raducanu) has a career ahead of her. Let that happen and not place false crowns on her.

She doesn't need to do this.
If she just keeps her level of play she showed us in this USO she will win many more slams. But that is the tricky part, keeping the level.
