So NatF, I've always said Fed is the most beautiful player I've seen ever and probably in sporting history, definitely one of the most talented to, but Djokovic is a textbook example of a master. The way he plays tennis and what he can do with everything just boggles my mind. IMO Djokovic is the most talented tennis player ever. As my Father said who's a Novak fan, we won't see another player like him again.

Citing Federer's backhand is just lazy analysis. He has the same weakness even great one handers have on that side. He has a great overhead and his net game is clearly superior to Novak's who has lost out on crucial points because of both.

To me, completeness means the total sum of the parts regardless of the balance. Balance and completeness are not always tied together. I'm tremendously balanced, lol. No, I don't think it's clear that the "completeness" of Djokovic's game is the best seen to date but of course he should be in the discussion and we can argue it.

One can have more potential holes in their game but make up for it through having other tremendous attributes. Even if we just call it a balance thing, Djokovic is balanced from the backcourt and has a big imbalance in his distribution of skills from backcourt to forecourt - in this sense Federer was (and is) more balanced. Depends on perspective.

See this is where you lose me. I'm a huge Federer fan but I wouldn't say he was definitely more talented than a guy like McEnroe or Sampras for example. You're just a massive fanboy for Djokovic. I don't find you objective in the least.

In terms of the total aggregate of the skills at ones disposal to be effective in winning tennis at the highest level, there are players who need to be mentioned, including Djokovic, who has proved himself enough now.

Borg was even more balanced than Djokovic probably. Most talented player ever? Maybe.

Aliassime plays a bit like a mini-Novak for the moment and is quite the prodigy. I wonder how he'll develop and what roads he'll go down as he reaches his late teens.

Sure, Borg had that baseline balance as well and a good/very good combo overall on serve+return and he utilised the forecourt more than Djokovic.. was also the more talented passer, and he was quicker. Djokovic is more flexible, and I think he has better droppers and lobs. Overall I think Djokovic's serve+return is better than Borg's was. I said the other day that Borg and Djokovic are similar.

I'm not up to speed on the Jr's really. Where do you keep track of and watch them? Yes I am too lazy right now to type this into google for myself.
N

Both are incredible players but not the most flashy, and are seemingly impenetrable.

I catch stuff by chance in the pro results section in the appropriate threads. For example - randomly caught a set of Aliassime the other day against a Polish player I don't remember the name of. He's honestly deeply impressive to me - that a player can be that well rounded barely gone 15.. he could be prodigious like Borg.

Borg had the better serve, Djokovic the better return. I don't really rate Djokovic's offensive lobs - despite those two amazing ones he hit in the USO final. Where he is great is those defensive lobs something probably helped by the new racquets I guess? I imagine it's harder to hit them with a tiny wooden frame.

But yeah don't watch a bunch of junior tennis but periodically do a catch-up session to figure out wth is going on and try to catch footage with links typically provided in the juniors/teenagers thread and similar threads.

I feel I saw some highlights of a rather special seeming Junior a few weeks back. I wonder if it was Aliassime. At this point I want some new blood shaking things up, don't care who it is. It's stale watching Berdych, Ferrer etc...

No doubt new rackets have forced an evolution in footwork that in many ways allows for a greater expression of defensive weaponry/resilience (even pc1 admitted this). So yes, Borg today would look more impressive than he looked way back when and pull off even more insane stuff himself.. though he was already quite ridiculous.

That is what I think NatF and I'm being as objective I can. Djokovic for me is a master of the game of tennis. And no, I haven't seen Laver or Mcenroe play, only on video highlights, so I can't speak for them. But what I can do is judge over the 15-20 years of tennis I've seen and Djokovic impresses me the most with what he does, not as beautifully as some but that is not the point.
N
Nathaniel_Near
Did the player have a skin tone similar to Tsonga's? If so, it was likely Auger-Aliassime.
N
Nathaniel_Near
RF-18 I don't think your stance is unreasonable. We've seen what Djokovic can achieve at his pinnacle in 2011 and 2015, but it isn't a knockout blow and many will disagree, only place him as an equal, slightly ahead or slightly behind. I do think the bias many fans have due to being spoiled by the "sharpshooters" that are Fed and Nad has distorted the view on Djoko unfairly. We'll see for the future.

Int erms of new blood obviously folks like Aliassime are way into the future. New blood? Look for one of the L O S T B O Y S to explode like a ticking time-bomb and hope that Kyrgios and Thiem ascend quickly on faster courts and clay respectively for 2016.
