The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

I've been playing with the 93P 18x20 for more than 6 months now and it's only getting better the more I use it. It's a great learning tool. Love the PS90 but this is much easier on the arm. Kept craving for an open pattern for a while but I'm very comfortable with it now. You have to play with...

Clearly I've been living under a rock. Thanks. I'll look at what people have to say about it on TT.

    Shoulder Health and Racquet Weight

I'm a fan of heavy racquets but I do think they put stress on the shoulder. I feel they tug on the shoulder when releasing the forehand and serve and that is what causes the damage, not the impact itself. I think if your technique is good and you wrap around quickly without following the ball...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

The most comfortable racquet I've played with. And you don't sacrifice too much power either. You can go full poly with this frame at low tensions. Got myself a second frame. Would be really great if Prince released a 16x19 version for 2019.

I'm going to bump up the tension anyway and see how it goes. Thanks for the reply.

I know this can vary by player and starting tension, but how long does RS Lyon retain playability for you on this frame? I strung it lower than you at 35lbs, and after approximately 10 hours control is going down. I don't see any excessive notching. I'm thinking 35lbs is too low for this...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Yes, the LTD is ridiculously under powered whatever you do, but a good stick to keep your technique honest. I'll try a low tension soft poly on it as some point. Can't agree more. I do miss the feel of the PS90 on volleys though.

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Thanks, I didn't realize they were different. Looked them up and it looks like they are quite unlike each other. I'll just let the LTD be. The 93P is so good that the urge to experiment with racquets is taking a hit. But I am getting a second 93P so I can mess around with strings and tension. I...

Outsole on tennis shoes - clay vs all court

Did you notice any difference in durability with the clay edition? I've been using a Adidas Ubersonic 2 with a standard outsole, and I was looking to pick up the clay version this time. The standard outsole already has Herringbone pattern and offers plenty of grip, so I'd rather just get that if...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

I've been extremely happy with the RS Lyon in the 93P. You can really hit out with this string, and it likes being strung low. Can't ask for more. Going to stick with this combo for some time. Sorry about going slightly off topic, but I see the Pure Storm GT in your signature. Do you string...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

I had my 93P strung with Volkl Cyclone 16@35 lbs. Played well for the first 10-12 hours but its turned to mush now. Feels overly soft and springy with almost no control. Notching is not too bad though. I'm new to this string. My usual setup is the now discontinued Discho Iontec@35 on my PS90...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Nicely put. The 93P is super easy to use and racquet head speed you can generate seems to compensate for the closed pattern. I was very worried about the closed pattern before I bought this, but I'm going to order a second frame now. To me, the 93P is closer in philosophy to my favorite, the...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Your level seems to be higher, but for me the game style hasn't changed much from the PS90/RF97. The Prostaffs feel more solid on volleys and probably better suited for the net game, but the 93P just feels easier to use everywhere.

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Yep. Bought a used book(Biggles goes to war) as a kid and must have read it a 100 times growing up. Oddly, don't own any now. Probably ought to rectify that. Can't argue with that. On the backhand I do use it quite a bit. Also getting some nice loopy drop shots, which is a bonus. Thanks for...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

What string setup did you end up with? I know the general recommendation here is to go with 18 gauge, but I have 2 sets of RS Lyon 17 at hand, so I'm thinking of trying that first. I've found it tricky to grab and lift really low, fast rally balls. They end up in the net more than I'm used to...

Thanks, I didn't realize that was the case. I'll try a 17 next time and see how it goes.

I don't have an easy way to accurately measure that, but it very much remains a head light stick. Yeah, at these tensions the strings do tend to notch sooner.

Volkl Cyclone 16@35lbs. Removed the leather grip and used two overgrips instead. I wrap the first one only on the lower half as a thick layer, and the second one on top in the normal fashion. I play with a single handed backhand, so it works for me. Weight now is 340gms including the dampener.

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Finally got my 93P and hit properly with it for a couple of hours. The comments on this forum are spot on. It is really easy to swing, plenty of power and feels more open than the 18x20 pattern suggests. I've never truly liked a 18x20 before this. I had no issues adapting to this from my PS90...

    Yonex VCore 95D vs TC Angell 95 16*19 63 or 70RA

Thanks for the feedback. I have got the RF to work for me as well, but with the exact opposite changes. I dropped the leather grip and strung it with poly at low tension - 35lbs. Works quite well for me. If only the RF was a bit more maneuverable. I'm usually very happy with the RF until I...

    Yonex VCore 95D

The RF is a log as well so I'm guessing(hoping?) that I'll be able to manage the 95D.

    Yonex VCore 95D

Did you get around to playing with this on a regular basis? I play with PS90/RF97A's, tried the Duel G 330 but didn't like it. Contrary to general feedback mine felt a bit hollow/tinny and comfort wasn't anything great either. Spin was harder to come by, but there was plenty of power. The Orange...

    Yonex VCore 95D vs TC Angell 95 16*19 63 or 70RA

How would you compare the RF and PS90 with the 95D? I adore the 90, and I appreciate the capability of the RF, but I'm looking for something a bit more forgiving than the 90 and softer than the RF. I'm definitely going to pick up an Angell TC95 at some point, but right now I have an option to...

THE MIGHTY PRO STAFF 90 THREAD

Strung my BLX Tour 90 @35lbs with Discho Iontec and hit with it for 6-7 hours. Works beautifully. The entire family of PS90's need a lively stringed I think. Very happy with the outcome. The 90 seems to put more stress on the string compared to the RF. Already see plenty of notching and strings...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Embarrassed to say this, but I have the K90, Blx Tour, Blx 6.1 and the 2014 edition. Not too fond of the last one, but all the others are great. The Blx tour gets panned for its lack of feel but I'm fine with it because I like it's swing weight. I'll look at the Angell.

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Really good question that many of us are asking ourselves. For me it's the promise of a lighter package that appeals. I love the PS90 to bits and use it regularly, but I would take 80% of the capability for 20 gms less.

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Looks like I'll have to soon lay my hands on one then. Does the sweet spot feel larger than the PS90? The 90 is not particularly forgiving so i usually end up with the RF for points. And how does it compare in terms of feel to the 90? Thanks.

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Does the 18x20 pattern on the Price provide a lively enough stringbed compared to the PS90? Is it noticeably different? My 18x20 experience is limited to the Blade/Pure Storm/Head Prestige YT MP, but each time I found I had to alter my strokes so I keep going back to the PS90 or the RF. I also...

    Mamba Tennis

I'll give that a go once I run through the 4 different sets I'm in the process of trying out. I also see SPPP in your signature. Does it play similar to Iontec?
