Two very interesting points. So when comparing, it's easy to see the tennisrecord numbers. But what USTA number are you comparing to?

    New Tennis Ratings Site

The goal of TennisLeagueAnalytics (TLA) is to very accurately identify the relative strength of players; strength defined as ability to win matches. That's what league players and captains seem to care about the most: "Is Player-A a stronger player than Player-B?", "Is this doubles pair...

    New Tennis Ratings Site

I have no "inside info", and don't need it. I just have the math and software background to model the numbers - it's my field. There are several ratings systems that various other sports organizations use so I started with those. Time consuming, though for me, kind of fun.

Agree. The "math" does not make sense, which makes the results hard to have faith in.

I've read the same thing and you can likely find that info in a USTA sectional FAQ, national changed (or lost) their FAQ when the site updated a few months ago.

That's just inaccurate, if true, but I'm curious about how you determined the "credit". The higher rated doubles player does give an advantage. There's a very nice chart (that I can't reference here), that was posted recently in a usta league blog that shows the probability of winning given a...

    New Tennis Ratings Site

That would be nice but hard to do in practice because you'd have to also calculate the rating with the opponents' singles/doubles separated ratings. The permutations would get out of hand fairly quickly unless simplified and then, well, you might as well just use the all inclusive rating and...

    New Tennis Ratings Site

It seems that rating accuracy is not the goal of the site. The model seems to be a "click bait" model. I've analyzed the numbers fairly well and they don't add up. Just look at the prediction of who should be bumped up and in one district it was wrong 95% of the time. But again, as long a...

How far can one one achieve in Tennis if he only starts as an adult?

I know several players who started in their 30's and reached 4.0 and 4.5 in two years, most were fairly good athletes, e.g., college baseball players, accomplished high school sports athletes. I know others who can't get out of 3.5 after many years of lessons.

Was it an independent league or USTA? I've seen both but not too common with USTA.

A different way of looking at the H2H between 2 players

Do you mean to intentional compare apples and oranges? The context of each match, timing, court surface, etc. allow for differing conclusions. The stats could be spun to support each player based on context.

I have found New Balance 1006 to be very comfortable and the life has been great - I mostly play clay. I do use a separately purchased NB insole.

    Afew questions for experienced stringers

I don't string commercially though do string for others, use a drop weight stringer, and string about about 25 raquets/year. I've broken strings 2x in 30 years. 1x my fault - I nicked the string. You'd need to replace the string. 1x the string came with kink and broke - string replaced by...

WTA "on" BeIN. Except, it's not.

BeIN Connect is free if the channel is part of your cable subscription. Problem, though, is that one-by-one, browsers have stopped streaming BeIn Connect. But tablets work fine.

    When does cushioning die?

I use separately purchased New Balance insoles in my New Balance shoes and get through three pairs of shoes with the same insoles before I replace the insoles. I play 3x week and can go through 2 to 3 pairs of shoes a year. Pricey up front but not bad over the year and the benefits are worth...

@barnes1172 - based on what I saw, I agree with you. Seems to be mostly if not most heavily weighted by just win/loss. The key to a good rating is to take all players ratings into account before calculating a new rating.

@kevrol - One way is to use the "Download to Excel" link. I suspect that's how some of the data is downloaded. If you have very good computer programming skills and know the right languages you could use other methods.

    The math on tension loss

I've been stringing my racquet and family's racquets 30 year with a dead drop weight type stringer. It takes me a few restrings and matches/hits with either a new racquet or new strings to know where to set the tension/weight. I don't care what the number is, I care about how the strokes...

    New Tennis Ratings Site

I looked at it a week ago but a lot of the ratings seemed way off based on both a subjective basis as well as comparison with another site that I trust. Also, agree with @OrangePower that the 10,000th of a point is not significant. I've done a bit of work in the area and would say that 1/10 of...
